30 minute sitcoms: 18-19 minutes of show and 11-12 minutes of commercials

I realize without commercials there would be no way for shows to recoup costs and make money but jesus christ, there is no flow left to a show with all the interruptions from the commercials. I do a ton of recordings to bypass the commercials but tonight watched Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage on CBS and it was brutal. Must have seen 25 commercials of 30 seconds while trying to watch. So ****ing annoying.

Reminds me of the tip thread with all the tip creep happening just for picking up your takeout order.

When I watched shows in the 70s and 80s, i think it was more like 25 minutes of shows and 5 minutes of commercials.

Same thing has happened online with all the ads, popups, chat requests, discount slideouts.

Really pushing me to tune out and disconnect from all this shit.

I believe it's 22 minutes. 44 for a one hour show. But that's network TV. Some streaming platforms seem to actually be worse.

Free shows are open game IMO.

When you pay for a service and they jam them in, that pisses me off.

Really Amazon, the monthly fee AND the thousands of dollars I spend a year isn’t enough for commercial-free shows and movies?

I believe ‘ad creep’ is a real thing. Shows back in the day were actually a few minutes longer with less ads.

Same goes for movie theaters. Showtime will say starts at 7PM. When it actually starts at 7:20 due to 8-9 trailers, ads for the theater itself and ads for local businesses now.

It goes even beyond that. If you watch shows on reruns, they will speed up the play back to fit in even more adds. It can lead to weird pacing issues if you already know the original episode well.

Whoa, I haven't experienced this yet. That will really throw things off.

I was watching a video of John Butler playing an acoustic guitar on youtube the other day. Halfway through, the video suddenly stopped and went to 1:30 seconds of a commercial. I get that the video was 12 minutes long, but nobody wants to watch a ****ing shampoo commercial halfway through a video.

I watched Reacher on Amazon Prime and good lord...the amount of adds was ridiculous.

One time I just said **** it and turned it off and went on to do something else.

That's why I DVR King of Queens, each commercial break is long as f***.
