Attended a meeting this morning (Wednesday) hosted by the Plaza District Council. It featured Scott Keller, the new manager of the Country Club Plaza, who discussed the latest regarding the 15-block iconic shopping district that was purchased a year ago by HP Village Partners of Dallas.

Highlights:

–The biggest news was an upgrade in security that’s in the works. On May 12, Metro Public Safety and Investigators, a local firm, will take over. The firm employs “Class A Security” licensed employees, a designation that allows them to be armed and have the power to temporarily detain people. Keller emphasized improved security has been a priority since his firm purchased the Plaza.

Why? I've never even remotely felt unsafe down at the Country Club Plaza.

Ive been to the Country Club Plaza about 75 times in the last 5 years.

Good on the plaza. I've heard of a few problems there over the last few years. Nothing that is too massive, but the moment people don't feel safe shopping, the moment that area dies. Smart for them to invest more into security.

That being said, I don't know the last time I was down there. I feel like I haven't really been there since I moved out of the city.
