What he said about the pick:
Quote:

The Chiefs have no choice but to make some changes this offseason at offensive tackle. Conerly, who had the best 10-yard split of any lineman at the combine, has high-level quickness and recovery balance.

I don't like it if they draft him and expect him to be the week 1 starter. I like it better if we bring a vet in for this season, but I like it not at all if we skip over Luther Burden.

Mecca 03-05-2025 12:51 PM

Bro, he has Burden Starks and Nolen on the board and we take Connerly, I'd be pissed.

After Senior Bowl week, every time I see Conerly's name, this comes to mind:

This has got to be the most God-****ing-awful way to evaluate a prospect I've ever seen in my life. "He sucks because for one play he was put at RT (not his regular position), didn't set his feet well, and got smashed by another top-15 player." It borders on the most ridiculous thing I've seen on this board this draft season and it's come from a litany of posters (not just you Saga) that should absolutely know that in those Senior Bowl drills and drills anywhere, these guys get beat regularly because its not a true simulation of game action and forces OL to react to irregular angles.

Burden and Nolen have some character flags, and Starks is a safety so that lacks positional value. I think we'll need to move up at least to 24 if we want Conerly. I don't see him getting to 31.

I might take Jack Sawyer over all of those guys if we don't end up needing a LT.

Relax. I know it's just one rep and not indicative of his body of work. I've been doing this about as long as you have (just not on CP from the beginning). It's just that when his name pops up, that rep is what immediately comes to mind. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I'm relaxed. I have just seen it a lot around here, and it's kind of ... I don't know... nauseating, lol. I'm glad to read that you get it.

Guys have bad reps. I guess watching Thuney and Caliendo get carried into Mahomes' lap play after play has given everyone some PTSD.

Coogs 03-05-2025 04:17 PM

I heard Conerly on NFL Network on Sirius Radio the other day. He was specifically asked about the rep shown on here against Green. He said it was his very first rep at RT. Said something like his technique felt off, he got up to high, and Green overpowered him. He wasn't making excuses either. Seemed like a pretty honest dude. They asked him about his 2 sacks he gave up at Oregon, and if he remembered them. He did, and gave a very detailed account on both of them. Right down to the alignment of the defense and the blocking assignments of the O-line on the play. One of the 2 sacks was a naked by the QB and the QB ran into the sack.

I think we would get lucky if this guy falls into our lap at 31. Inspite of Green kicking his butt at his not natural position in the video from the Senior Bowl.

Love that he owned it. Good stuff! Thanks for the context, Coogs!

I would rather move up and take Simmons. Doubt he falls that far though.

I'll be honest, I was one of the posters who looked at that rep and thought "yikes" without really taking into account it being at RT, or a drill without huge relevance.

I think what bothered me was that it was a bad rep against power, which to me felt like his obvious weakness from the little I've seen. So it was a bit of confirmation bias. But I'll accept I've seen far less of him than you. Plus, tbh, I'd much rather a nimble OT with a year to build his strength, than another project with iffy feet and hands.

If he fell to us without having to move up, even if a guy like Harmon is left before a drop off at DT (man, I really want a quality DT), yeah, I'm probably running it in.

Couch-Potato 03-06-2025 08:14 AM

It bothers me when these analysts only do 1 round mocks. Come’on man! Give us more! lol

Also, does it look like Mike Green jumped the snap against Conerly Jr to anyone else?

Seems he got a good jump. The ball isn't always snapped in those drills and the coaches always whistle it dead and reset the drill if the defender jumps early. That being said, Conerly, has a known weakness against speed-to-power which happens to be one Green's noted strengths. Perfect storm occurred on that rep.
