They Call it Late Night with Jason Kelce
The first episode aired last night, or should I say early this morning (1am) on ESPN. It’s a foul mouthed football-centric late night talk show. It’s of course heavily Philly related, but once he gets going, it gets entertaining and I laughed a few times. The guests portion of the show follows the James Corden format where everyone comes out at the same time and they all chat together morning zoo style. I think once he starts getting bigger guests (he had Barkley this time), I could see it really pick up in popularity. It’s worth throwing on your record list and watching later IMO.

Well, that wasn’t super good.
But it was probably the best you could expect for Jason. I hope it runs for a million episodes and he makes a billion dollars, but meh. |

I chalk it up to trying really hard to capitalize on your success and notoriety, which is largely based on your brother. Sorry, but it's true. Jason has had success on his own, and I know he has quite a fan base in Philly, but if not for having his brother's wagon to hitch to, he'd be a local radio guy in Philly. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe this show will get better, but this first episode seemed pretty juvenile and forced to me. Don't get me wrong, I like Jason Kelce. And if I were him I'd be trying to capitalize on the notoriety as well. Meh. Gotta make hay while that sun is shining I guess. Between the podcast, the Monday Night Football, his commercials and now this show, he might be dangerously close to over exposure. We'll see. |
I didn't watch it, but I'm not surprised it sucks.
Jason is a hell of a good personality, but scripted isn't his strength. |
This whole obsession with the Kelce brothers is like popping a dick pill.
At first you are like, hell yeah... let's ****. By hour 4 you start getting worried that it isn't going away. |

I didn't see any numbers, but the first episode apparently tanked.

I have to imagine that the linear, ESPN crowd is quite different. |

I watched a few minutes of it last night. I don’t see it lasting long
Sorry Jason…. |

This last episode with Goodell and OchoCinco had its moments. Specifically Ocho asking if he could get some of his fine money back from penalties he got from celebration penalties when the nfl was the no fun league.

The oversaturation of the Kelce family has become very stale.

Nah, Jason has a hell of a personality and if you listen to his podcast he is really good at this stuff. Totally totally disagree that his success is driven by Travis. They were crushing the podcast well before Taylor swift. He's kind of a positive version of barstool. A more wholesome version of a bro, kind of like Travis.
This just looks like a noob trying to figure out an entirely new format. It looks to me like he's trying way too hard. He admits as much in the podcast that he has no idea what he's doing. He will figure shit out and adapt. I assume with the way espn handled McAfee they're a little more ready to help him adapt to this new kind of format too. |
