Media starting to hype up Jared Goff

I seen this conversation yesterday on Pat Mcafee's show about him being underrated, and today I see the same thing on Undisputed. What say you Planeters? The guy has battled with Mahomes in two pretty epic games so I'll give him props for that. Still not sold on the guy.

Underrated is definitely fair. He's a solid and legitimate starting NFL QB.

But I've also seen talk of him being an MVP candidate and that's just silly.

He's prime Matt Ryan, which is pretty damn solid... occasional pro bowl type player

Always had him on my list of better deep ball throwers in the league. And he's a solid intermediate passer as well when things are going well.

I wouldn't say he's 'prime' Matt Ryan because prime Matt Ryan won an MVP and deservedly so. But he's a poor man's Ryan in that he can be really good when a plus team is in place around him.

He's a solid throwback thrower. Kirk Cousins may be his best analogue though I think Cousins has demonstrated far greater consistency. He's not going to make much happen off script. He's not terribly mobile or a plus improviser. But if you're looking for someone that can operate an offense well, he's fine.

I wouldn't go much further than that, though.

Decent, not great. He's had the good fortune of having abundant weapons for most of his career.

IowaHawkeyeChief 10-20-2023 10:48 AM

Yep, talking MVP, however, if these QB's stats continue to be meh, we may see a non QB win MVP this year. Tyreek if he continues at this pace, or a defender...

Buehler445 10-20-2023 10:52 AM

He's limited but competent. He can be really good if he's gameplanned around his strengths and limit his weaknesses.

Or he can blow ass with insufficient talent or being asked to do something he's not capable of.

Coaching matters kids.

I remember telling Lions fans at the home opener "good luck getting to a SB with Alex Smith as your QB". My opinion hasn't changed.

cousins with better luck sounds about right. Going from McVay to a burgeoning lions team

I think MVP would go to Tyreek right now. Obviously we’ve got a lot of football left to be played, but..

It’s looking like this is the best season in about 10 years for a non-QB to have a chance of winning.

But, yeah, regarding Goff’s MVP odds, I do understand why they say it. He’s the QB of one of the best teams in the league and they don’t have a ton of star power. Makes sense.

Funny. Fitzmagic said the same thing- Goff is a poor man’s Matt Ryan. Goff took some offense to it on a postgame show with Fitz and the boys.. but it’s really not a negative. You could do a lot worse than Matt Ryan.

Megatron96 10-20-2023 11:13 AM

In QBR, Goff is the 4th most efficient passer in the league, in Passer Rating he's 3rd. Mahomes is 4th and 9th, respectively.

Basically, there's only a handful of QBs that I'd take over Goff this season.

Lions are going to win a shit ton of games. NFC North blows. And the AFC West blows as well, and they already beat the Chiefs. MVP generally goes to the QB on the team with best record. I could see him getting some MVP talk.

They're actually in a spot to win like 14/15 games and have teh 1 seed in the NFC. Look at their schedule.
