Isaiah Pacheco chip blocking

I know we all know how hard Pacheco runs and how hard some of his collisions with defenders are, but I was watching this video on how the Chiefs managed to escape the Philly pass rush and I noticed that Pacheco LAID WOOD with his shoulder into one of the Philly D Linemen. I can only imagine how hard that hit was to the ribs and it completely re-directed that D lineman back to the inside.

His vision improved over the middle of the season. By late season, his blocking was improving as well. He’s well on his way to being a true 3-down back.

Seeing this block in Week 2 was when I started becoming a believer that he'd take over for CEH. I think CEH's biggest struggle in this offense wasn't rushing or pass-catching, but being able to protect Patrick in Pass Pro. Pacheco wasn't perfect as a blocker, but seeing him being willing to take on Derwin so early in the year had to win him a lot of support in the film room.

No doubt it helps spending time with a player like McKinnon who takes so much pride in his pass blocking, has rubbed off in attitude and technique.

Excellent post.

His blocking in pass protection has been his only weak link. When he fixes that, he is golden.

I’ve been saying it he’s going for 1,300

CEH's biggest weakness was a lack of speed. The second Pacheco took over, this team started crushing defenses with outside zone plays. Pacheco had the speed to make it to the edge, and CEH didn't. Our entire run game transformed with that small difference in speed.

I really pulled for CEH the whole time, but man oh man is there a chasm between him and Pacheco.

I'm just going to pretend CEH was the seventh rounder and we got IP at pick 32.

CEH never seemed to beat NFL linebackers to the edge after the Saints folded him up like a pretzel.

Yeah, it's not like he was an athletic dud. He was having a really good year his rookie season before he got hurt. He was just never the same after.
