New Car Stereo Help/Thoughts
So,
I haven't had a working radio in my VW Rabbit for nearly 2 years and after my wife used my car for 2 days, she bursts into the house saying "My god.. you need a ****ing radio" lol. I have the stock one now, but would like something that could work with Pandora, or iPod etc. I have stock speakers, and (at least from what I can remember) didn't mind the sound. what sort of shit am I in for here? I don't want to drop mad coin; just a good upgrade for a good price. my birfday is on Saturday, so I think this is now my birthday gift...to myself lol. |
Speakers should be reasonable. I paid like 160 for all 4 in my Harley truck. Radio should only be couple hundred.

I've heard great things about this alpine head unit that does bluetooth for around $200.
And you might be tempted to go to Best Buy, but at least stop by Santa Fe Auto Sound. They've independent and somehow are still around after 20+ years as an independent car stereo place. |
If you are looking for a basic, cheap head unit with decent sound, check out this Pioneer unit: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEHX26...=cm_cr_pr_pb_t
It has full iPod control and says it works with Pandora through an iPhone. I put one in my wife's car and was pretty impressed, especially considering its price. |
I've seen that Pioneer mentioned by a lot of folks around the internet. :hmmm:
|
The only warning I'd give about anything that has iPod controls over USB is that you're more at risk of a software update breaking that (because Pioneer doesn't support the new OS for example) than if you get something with bluetooth.
That price is pretty impressive though. |
Hmm. That's good to know.
I think I found a decent Pioneer 2-DIN that might give me what I want for about $140-ish. |

My wife has been asking about putting one in her SUV that would bluetooth with her iphone for music. Double-DIN. |
