Justin Houston Injury: PCL strain, bone bruise

Quote:

Linebacker Justin Houston was one of many key members of the Chiefs to leave Saturday’s game against the Colts with injury, part of the reason why the Colts were able to rally from 28 points down to knock Kansas City out of the playoffs.

It would be even more painful if the injuries continued to impact the Chiefs’ chances of winning in the future, but it doesn’t look like that will be the case for Houston. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that Houston suffered a PCL strain and bone bruise in his knee on Saturday, which qualifies as good news as it means no ACL damage and no damage that requires surgery to repair.

Houston had a sack in his return from a dislocated elbow on Saturday, giving him 12 in 12 games this season and adding a little extra fodder to his case for a new contract. Houston is set to make $645,000 in the final year of his rookie deal, a number he’s outplayed by a wide enough margin that you’d expect at least talk about a new deal this offseason.

A serious injury could have gotten in the way of that, but Houston has dodged that bullet. He won’t have to spend the offseason in rehab mode, leaving him free to figure out an extension or work on the field to make an even stronger case during the 2014 season.

Good news?

He has 8 months to recover...

Sandy Vagina 01-06-2014 09:53 AM

ouch... I didn't realize he was making THAT little... going to have to extend. He is one of 5 or 6 defenders that KC simply must keep happy.

What about the other 20 injured guys?

ping2000 01-06-2014 10:17 AM

In other injury news, all members of the secondary have torn assholes.

What was up with Indy's field? I know turf is not as forgiving as natural grass, but it seemed like it was much less so than normal. Maybe the freezing temps had something to do with it?

What's the word on Kniles Daviss?

mcaj22 01-06-2014 11:32 AM

this would be a good time to throw out a fair extension to him. If he goes off in 2014, the price will go way up. If Dorsey is smart he'd use the injury(s) this year as leverage and say this is the security you can get now, if you have a similar type of season in 2014 you could lose a lot money, blah blah, etc
