We need a coverage LB but we probably need another RB even more.

Who is the best RB available at this point?

We were an abortion covering TEs and the middle of the field last year, LV does have Bowers, so it's definitely not a fluke addition.

Yeah, it was a glaring weakness for the defense last season. I'm happy they get someone who can cover even if it's a later round pick who isn't guaranteed a roster spot.

This isn't remotely an odd pick at this point of the draft. If they went LB other than Paul, Bassa would be the next obvious option. LB was the most obvious position after RB. Not odd at all.

You can't have a list of one position and a single other player and anything outside of that doesn't make sense.

At this point of the draft grades are all over the place.

Cosmos 04-26-2025 01:04 PM

Eventual coverage LB on passing downs..?

This conference has a lot of real good TE’s.

We have been getting killed short over the middle, also a good QB spy for containing the likes of Ryan, Jackson..

I can see the need.

Al Bundy 04-26-2025 01:04 PM

Stole him right out from under the Buccaneers. In turn the Bucs drafted a guy that won't be on the roster.

Dunerdr 04-26-2025 01:05 PM

Super solid pick up. Absolutely a great compliment to what Bolton and Chenal do.

I think given our respective RB and LB rooms, I'd disagree. We do need a coverage LB, so fair enough, but you can't tell me you weren't expecting a RB then.

duncan_idaho 04-26-2025 01:08 PM

I like Bassa as a coverage backer option. I was surprised he didn't test better than he did, because he doesn't look like a 4.8 guy when you watch him play.

If they didn't fully expect him to make the team and have a planned role for him, they're not trading up.

I'd be pretty shocked if he didn't make the team. Especially as a ST capable guy.

booger 04-26-2025 01:09 PM

In a playoff game vs Watson and the Texans Dorian odaniel (Sutton era holdover)had a role as a spy and actually had a sack. Spags will have a role for him. Maybe not every week but he will have a chance to fill a role

Yes, but there's nothing odd about the team picking a different position than you expect, especially the next likely one. You can't nail the position 100% based on need in any round.

A QB would've been odd. IOL would've been odd.

And Oliver, Mondon and Maiguoa all went off the board in the next 6 picks.

Seems pretty apparent that Veach saw that run on LBs coming up and went and got the guy he really wanted.

All bets are off in rounds 4-7, IMO. In those rounds you just try to take guys with great value whom (who?) you hope can turn into plus players at some point.

Bump 04-26-2025 01:33 PM

definitely need depth at LB and he shouldn't have to play on defense his rookie year, special teams most likely for this year.

DJ's point re the mini-run on LBs makes it make sense. I guess I'm just using "odd" to mean, I don't agree with the prioritisation given what was left with the RBs.

TBH though, after Giddens went I'm not sure I cared that much for guys like Martinez. So I guess see what we get at the death.

He ran 4.6 actually. Anyway ya'll I think Spags and Veach have tried to replace Sneed and Gay from the great defense we had In 2023. Getting a coverage backer was vital because no doubt we missed Gay's speed last season so I'm happy with this pick.

Exactly.

If Giddens is still there at that pick, maybe I'm a bit ornery about it. He wasn't.

I don't think another RB has gone since. I don't expect more than 1 or 2 to come off the board before we pick again.

There have just been a lot of 'em taken already and they're all pretty fungible at this point.

Hell, I missed Tranquill's speed from 2023.

He definitely lost a step in 2024.

I think I'm less worried about LBer had Tranquill not fallen off so obviously last year.

booger 04-26-2025 01:55 PM

Cam Jones has a bit of upside yet but his coverage is average. This just strengthens the unit

LadyChief 04-26-2025 01:59 PM

Chiefs decided they have enough at RB?

Easy 6 04-26-2025 02:01 PM

While I completely understand the need for a good coverage backer, still would've preferred RB here

DO really like the former safety aspect of his game, and running a 4.6 isn't too shabby

Delano 04-26-2025 02:12 PM

When the hivemind chirping about this pick needing to be a RB is the only negative, it’s a good thing

His presser was a good listen. Hes going to be a coaches favorite. Very smart player. Apparently he’s been a regional scout’s favorite for years.

Hard to argue with that thought either. Just don’t think the potential back was still available at the point of this pick. Might have to come from a trade if one presents itself as far as RB goes

Iconic 04-26-2025 02:23 PM

so what has been the #1 complaint since gay left?... and what did we just attack by getting bassa - a converted safety?

isn't flashy but it's one of those picks we will appreciate the most in the playoffs during key passing downs, especially once tranquill leaves.

veach is just knocking it out of the park every time.

SD15 04-26-2025 02:25 PM

I wanted Stutsman in the fourth, but I’m thrilled with Jalen Royals. I just checked out Bassa and he seems like a terrific prospect. I guess hybrid money backers are what’s needed in today’s game.

At this price point especially it’s a very good deal. Traits similar to the Cleveland guy from Norte dame just not as athletic but he was drafted a couple rounds higher. Some years there just aren’t as many or any of these types in a specific class. Just big slower former safeties you want to try and convert and actually don’t have the film of them in college playing how you want to convert and use them

There’s a group around here that has a problem with my signature and would stop getting offended by my posts if they would simply turn off sigs. Or avatars in the case of your sensitive offended Ass. Sometimes you’re better off minding your own business but that would take self awareness. My avatar and his shirt says nothing about another man giving another a bj

Ignorant shits want to attack me start a thread. Mutual respect towards posters who want to talk football and not gay sex should be shown. I'm trying to catch up on him a bit.

Evidently he ran at his game weight while a lot of those guys clipping of 4.5s cut weight to run.

So his is a 'true' 4.6. That's gonna play pretty damn well.
