What Ballparks Have You Been To?
Or if you’re not a big baseball person, what other arenas have you attended for an event?
I’ll get us started with ballparks… KC: Royals/Kauffman Stadium: first one I can sorta remember was in 1979. Still have a pennant from that year. 1979-2024 NYC/Bronx: Old/New Yankee Stadium: went to 7 games between the two ballparks and never saw the Royals win one game. 0fer 7. 2005-2016 NYC/Queens: Shea/Citifield: Shea was a toilet. Citifield is pretty good. Got to see game 5. 2005-2021 Baltimore: Camden Yards: great place. Softshell crab sandwiches. $40 seats three rows behind home plate. Good fans. Caught a bp Moustakas homer as I was inspecting the warehouse plaques. Royals won. Gordon went yard. 2013 Cincinatti: Old Riverfront: Ted Power got our family tix. He gave up a leadoff first pitch home run to Barry Bonds, but the Reds came back to win. 1987 Texas: Old Arlington Stadium: Don’t remember much except the park was horrible and we cooked for six innings before getting the hell outta there. 1984 Los Angeles: Dodgers Stadium: went to a few games there. Nothing exceptional about the park. Dodger dogs are overrated. Takes FOREVER getting in or out of that joint. 2000-2004. Minneapolis: Metrodome: went to a few games there. Hamelin hit a moon shot to right. 1994-2006 Anaheim: Angel Stadium: only went once. Royals lost. Nothing stands out about the joint. It was hot. 2001. St. Louis: Old Busch Stadium: went to a few games. Cool seeing Ozzie flip to start the game. And Donovan Osborne hit a grand slam at another game I attended. Place went ****ing bananas as he was the starting pitcher. 1982-2006 Pittsburgh: PNC Park: this place is a gem. Royals won both games I attended. Fireworks on the river after the Friday night game. Good fans. Good food options. 2024 Houston: Enron/Tropicana? Can’t remember if Enron was still in business…. My band was on tour and we had an extra night in Houston to hang so we went to a game. It was a blur due to being on tour, but we had a good time. I do remember the hot dogs being really effing good. Opened the roof in the 7th after the stretch. 2003 Detroit: Comerica: Greinke was pitching and he had a bad game. My only real weekend while working on a movie in Michigan. Nice ballpark. Good fans. 2010 Atlanta: Turner Field: on vacation with my then gf. Her brother drove us. Took forever getting into that place. Nothing very memorable. Though if you walked to a part of the parking lot, they had a piece of Fulton County stadium where Aaron hit his 755th. 2006 Denver: Mile High Stadium: tix were $3. I think there was something like 60,000 at the game. Few older buddies got me drunk. It was fun. 1993 I think that’s it for ballparks? Gonna visit Seattle in a couple months, so I’ll get that one crossed off my list soon. |
T Mobile Park (Seattle): Awesome park with an amazing view of the downtown skyline and the Olympic Mountains
Kauffman Stadium: Don’t have to explain that one to anyone here. Wrigley Field: Really cool. Felt like going back in time. Busch Stadium (old and new): Loved old Busch for nostalgia reasons. New Busch was very well done. Yankee Stadium: Big and corporate. Maybe my least favorite. Still good though. Coors Field: Really solid park. Nothing spectacular but just a good ballpark experience. |
KC - Old Municipal Stadium, then Kaufman.
DFW - Arlington Stadium. It really was a rathole, but had a good time there most times I went. Never went to the newer stadium, nor the current one. Atlanta - Fulton County Stadium, then Turner Field. Baltimore - Camden Yards. Really nice stadium in the early days. NY - Old Yankee Stadium. Sat in the upper deck. The upper deck was really steep and kind of scary for a drunk guy who's scared of heights to descend. Boston - Fenway Park. We had seats in center field and were there early. We walked all the way around the park before going in, then as far as we could inside the stadium. There was an interior gate that was guarded and they weren't supposed to let us through. My buddy was from the Boston area and told the guard I was from KC and he needed to show me the glory of Fenway, so the guard said ok and let us go through. I'm still really surprised by that. LA - Dodger Stadium. Pretty cool place. It's built into the side of a hill so you just walk up the hill to the level of your seats and walk straight into the stadium level. LA - Old Anaheim stadium. This was pretty fun. The crowd is really into having a good time no matter the game. I really enjoyed this. Oakland - Oakland/Alameda stadium. What a shithole. The Oakland fans were assholes too. I was there in 1984 the night the Royals clenched the AL West. Houston - Astrodome was another shithole. I was incredibly let down by how awful a place for baseball that was. The new stadium is pretty nice. Parking is terrible, but the stadium is great. Milwaukee - American Family Field. It was still pretty new when I was there. Great fans, nice people. It's a good place to see a game. Seattle - I didn't actually get to the game at the Kingdome. We were at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska and were unable to get out of there early enough. This was at the end of the Cold War and the Russians were flying some military aircraft to Canada for an airshow. They couldn't make it without refueling and had negotiated with the US govt to land for refueling at Elmendorf in Anchorage. So, we got to see a short airshow the Russians put on for everyone over the base before they landed. So, we missed my one and only chance to see a game at the Kingdome, but given how much I heard about the Kingdome being another shithole, I'm glad we got to see the Russians come in and land at a US AFB. Bonus - Omaha - Went to the College World Series at the old stadium. College atmosphere. Lots of fun. We had coolers of beer in the trunk of the car and some frisbees, so we started horsing around as we waited for the traffic to clear. Ended up staying there having fun until about 3:30 in the morning. A security guard drove up around 2:00 and asked what the hell we were doing. We told him we were waiting for the traffic to clear up. He looked around at the empty lots, thought about it for a moment, said "OK," and drove off. Fun night. |
Royals Stadium

Tell me all about the Seattle park before I visit please. Was in Chicago on a road trip with my ex, and neither the White Sox or Cubs were in town, but we did spend part of a day in wrigleyville. New Yankee Stadium is weird. It’s like aliens made a ballpark based on Yankee fans preferences and it sucks. It’s kinda like a strange high priced mausoleum. Old Yankee stadium had some character, but again, **** the Jankees. |
Quote:
Can’t believe you could have a good time at old Arlington. Open stadium with almost nothing but bleacher seats and no shade. That place was AWFUL. Yeah, Dodger Stadium, when you finally get into the place, the setting is okay. As you said, it’s built into the hills and a bowl stadium at that. But didn’t think anything about the place was great. This is also 20 years ago. Maybe it’s better now? You mentioned Angel Stadium and yeah, I do remember the fans were very into it, sorta…. Mostly just hot and Panda Express was the hot spot. I wanna get to Milwaukee at some point. |
The K of course
Tropicana. Feels like a minor league stadium Coors Field. Decent. Had really good seats. Camden. Good times, bit shitty Neighborhood. The Ballpark in Arlington. Hot as hell. And the site views not that great. Globe Life Field. I liked it a lot. And it’s indoors for Texas summers. New Busch stadium. Other than hosting the Red Birds, it’s a fine stadium. |

Dodger stadium is nice. The fans are kind of pathetic as they arrive late and leave early. I was there about 30 years ago. |
My first baseball game was at the old Kingdome in Seattle (1995). Crazy enough, it was a game between the Mariners vs the Royals which the home team won 4-3.
Two years later, I became a fan of KC's football team and its fanbase now is called Chiefs kingdom. Twilight zone. |
Royals/Kaufmann - A bunch when I was a kid. Used to go over 4th of July weekend and the last homestand of the year close to my birthday. The last time I went was when I drove out in 2015. Went to a double header vs the Rays that we swept.
Mile High - For the first ever Rockies home game in 1993. Rockies beat the Expos. Camden Yards - First time in about 98 or 99. Royals beat Mussina and the O's. I've been there a lot over the years including to see Moose drive in like 8 runs and when Ventura threw at Machado which almost got ME in a fight. Fenway - Took my dad to a random Red Sox/Angels game for Fathers Day in 2002 just so we could say we've been. It was a real dump back then. Sox won but the loudest cheer was after the Yankees game had gone final with them losing. Crowd chanted "Yankees suck!" Pretty lame. PNC/Pirates - Been there a lot over the years starting around 2002. While the ballpark is nice, I generally don't like Pittsburgh. Old Yankee Stadium - Went to Yankees/Red Sox with a buddy on a whim around 2003. Sat in the centerfield bleachers. Police escorted someone out about once per inning. Got scammed by a guy who parked my friends car so nut to butt we had to nudge the cars in front and behind to get out. The guy took all of our cash. Citizen's Bank/Phillies - Started going to games there in the early 2000s. For me it's an easy drive. Easy parking access/situation. Not bad if the Phillies suck, the dickhead fans don't bother much with you. Have taken my nephew there a lot as he's a Phillies fan. Nationals Park - Took my nephew there a few times. Charmless ballpark without much going for it except you could take the DC Metro pretty much right to the outfield gate. Progressive Field/Indians - My dad and I went there in 2016 to watch the Royals lose on a super hot day. Wrigley - One of the best days of my life. "Friendly Confines" is not an exaggeration. It really is just plopped into the middle of a neighborhood. Game was the day before the Air and Water show and the Blue Angels/F-14s were buzzing the stadium and doing maneuvers over downtown Chicago which we could watch from our seats. Bowman Field/Little League Classic - A day after getting home from Wrigley, my dad got passes for my GF and I to see the Pirates beat the Cardinals in Williamsport for the first Little League Classic. This one is special because I live about a 15 minute walk from Bowman. I can see the stadium lights from my front porch. Bowman is an old minor league park built in the 20's. They've had a minor league team in there for most of the 32 years I've lived here. They did major renovations to the playing surface and added proper bullpens and nicer seats/concourses when they started to do the Little League Classic. MLB put a lot of money into it which the Williamsport Crosscutters (Draft League formerly NY/Penn League, Low A Summer League) and various local high school teams benefit from. Though for the MLB games they have to put up more light towers, a larger batter's eye, towers for cameras, and they build a bigger temporary video board. They also add bigger "clubhouses" in the form of those white tents you see at outdoor events like weddings. Anyway, it's a cool thing they do. |
Overall for baseball parks, I’m fond of the downtown city parks where there are things to do around the ballpark. I hate Royals location although I love the stadium itself.
Royals - grew up going to games in the 70s Nationals - I’ve been here in DC for 30 years and I am a Nats fan too. The area around the park is getting built up nicer and nicer every year. Capitalism at its finest. Used to be a really generic experience but pretty nice now. Baltimore - Camden Yards still one of the nicer ballparks in a cool location. Easy to get in and out of downtown even by car. Philly - Generic but nice enough. San Francisco - probably my favorite non-KC or DC park to visit. Views are fantastic. Oakland - Visted 3 years ago and man what a shithole. The area around it is what I imagine Syria or some bombed out third world dystopia. Anaheim - “just fine”. Generic park if I’ve ever seen one in the suburbs. Nothing special about it at all. Boston - Fenway is super overrated. What people won’t admit is that it’s an absolutely terrible, old shitty park with terrible views. Just because it’s old doesn’t make it good. Sucks. Location is good. Cubs was kinda cool as I remember. Never been to Yankees but would like to. |
Target in MSP. Great venue. Great location. Wherever you are in the stadium (bar etc) you can see the action. Before and after the game you can have a beer and a bite near by. Makes you think about a downtown location for the Royals.
|
1. Kansas City
2. Miami (back when they first played at Joe Robbie) 3. Baltimore 4. Milwaukee (Both County Stadium & Miller Park) 5. Chicago Cubs 6. Chicago White Sox 7. Detroit 8. NY Yankees (Went by myself to see a Royals game because Fontier had a crazy $20 fare. Alex Gordon saw me wearing my Royals jersey amongst all the yankee fans and tossed me a ball. Thanks Alex!) 9. Pittsburgh 10. Minnesota 11. St Louis 12. Colorado 13. San Francisco 14. LA Dodgers 15. Seattle 16. Washington 17. Philadelphia 18. Cleveland Favorites: KC, Pittsburgh, San Fran Really need to figure out a way to see Fenway. Though the Astros & Rangers would be the easiest two for me to knock out. |
I grew up in Dodger Stadium.
My 20s at Chase. Currently spend a lot of time at Coors. I have affection for all of them. |
1A: Busch Stadium- always loved the stadium, ballpark village, just a beautiful place or watch a ballgame
1B: PNC Park- as a Pirates fan, the beauty of this ballpark is unbelievable. It almost doesn't look real when you are sitting in the stadium. The only downfall is being nearly 10 hours away from where I live. 2: Wrigley Field- really cleaned that place up over the last decade, it's another great place for a game (complaints: some seats deal with obstructed views and parking is a MESS in that area) 3: Miller Park- fine, nothing special. Kind of a strange area for a ballpark in regards to the city. Just a decent park. |
I've only been to Kauffman in recent years.
Back in the day: Municipal (KC) Three Rivers Fenway Wrigley Kingdome Dodgers Royals in Surprise AZ |
The K ...it's nice.
New Busch in St. Louis... I think it was my first baseball game outside of KC and it made me appreciate how on top of the game you are at The K. Comerica in Detroit Turner Field in Atlanta Wrigley ...cool to step back in time, but not the best place to watch the actual game. Chase Field in Phoenix... loved the TGI Friday seats in right field, kinda sucks the Diamondbacks are already bitching about a new park since it's only like 25 years old. Dodger Stadium... maybe the most generic and seemed like there was like one or two entrances/exits for everyone to filter into/out of (the Royals walked in like 3 runs in the late innings or some bullshit). Myrtle Beach Pelicans... can't beat the prices. T-Bones... Ángel Berroa was playing. Royals Spring Training... more expensive than minor league games that count. |
I've been to ... hang on, let me check my list.
Coors Field. I'm not a big baseball guy. I went to Bush Stadium for a Chiefs-Cardinals football game back in the late 1980s, and I've been in the parking lot near the Royals Stadium, but not actually in the stadium. Oh, wait. I've also been to a professional baseball game in Mile High Stadium before Coors Field was built. |
Skydome, Kauffman, Fenway, Wrigley, Coors, Yankee Stadium (new), US Cellular, Comerica, Citi Field, Olympic Stadium.
Kauffman is the best of those. |
Not a baseball fan but as an American Youth I played Baseball. Ballpark? We went and played the team at Mickey Owens Baseball Camp. So I was at the Mickey Owens Baseball Camp Ball Park. I've been to the Old Busch Stadium and the old Arlington Stadium. Went to a game at Arlington Stadium the year we played in the NAIA National Golf Championship in Fort Worth. We smoked weed in the stadium and there was no trouble. LOL Didn't play that well at West Haven Country Club. We missed the cut. But we cruised Rosebud St and went to a strip joint. One of the first times I ever went to a strip joint. I was green on that shit. Springfield didn't have strip joints in those days. I might have went to Royals Stadium once....it's foggy....

Yale Stadium Hartford CT. - The Yale Bowl Jets vs Giants season 1974. Jets won in OT on Joe Namath TD pass. First regular season NFL OT game. My Dad took me and my maternal grandfather. We rode the Amtrak train from Newark to New Haven.
I was 11 years old. JFK Stadium Philly - 1974 World Football League game. Philadelphia Bells vs New York Stars. Stadium old and decrepit. Maybe 4,000 fans. Fights and fires in the stadium. My Dad and I left early. Veterans Stadium Philly - 1971 First baseball game. Pirates vs Phillies. Dock Ellis pitched, Roberto Clemente on RF, Wille Stargell in LF, Bill Mazeroski at 2nd base and he hit a homer. Pirates won 11-9 I was at this stadium at least 30 times. Arrowhead KC - for my 50th birthday did a bucket list event. Sat in front row on Chiefs 25 yard line next to replay booth. Chiefs beat Giants 31-7 2nd time I went w GBlowfish and sat front row 50 yard line for Chiefs vs Broncos on Christmas Eve. We won again. I'm 2-0 at Arrowhead. PNC Park Pittsburgh. - About 5 times. As Pirates fan I think it is one of the best stadium in baseball. Food, location, amenities, comfort. Shea Stadium and original Yankee Stadium New York - once for each as a kid. Hated both teams and went to Shea w best friend who is a fan and Yankee Stadium with my little league team. Teenager both times Meadowlands Stadium New Jersey - Stadium sucks and three times there. Once for Giants, once for Jets vs KC in Dennis Byrd paralyzed game and 1st time was for my high school teams state finals. Brendan Byrne Arena Nets Meadowlands - Nets vs Bullets as a young teen. Verizon Arena Wash DC - Wizards and Capitals games Nationals Stadium DC - only when Pirates came to town. Spectrum Philly- Sixers game once Madison Square Garden - NY City - Knicks and Rangers games vs Bullets and Blackhawks. Nassau Coliseum Long Island - Islanders game I got free tickets to. Drive there sucked so bad. Candlestick Park San Fran - was on top of Giants dugout. Giants vs Cardinals. Bonds played and Dave Parker was hitting coach for St Louis. Oracle Park San Fran - A top notch baseball stadium w fantastic food and incredible views downtown in SF. I was there the first year it opened with a season ticket holder right at Club Level. I was there a few more times. Oakland Alameda Stadium - I was there around 1997 or 1998 with a high school buddy from NJ who moved to Dublin CA to watch the A's. The stadium was a complete shothole back then and a tiny crowd. Shark Tank San Jose - several times to watch Sharks games while living in Mountain View. Easy quick ride on Cal Train from Mtn View right to San Jose. Seats very uncomfortable and super tight on knees. MCG Melbourne Cricket Grounds Australia - 3 day Cricket test match. Most ****ed up shit. 100,000 seat stadium and just 40 people there for first day of test match. No clue how cricket works. Rodgers Arena and Rodgers Stadium Toronto - went to games for Raptors vs Wizards and Blue Jays vs someone I can't recall. Pretty decent stadiums. Palafiera Stadium Forli Italy - basketball team with Darryl Dawkins. Camden Yards Baltimore - my favorite baseball stadium outside of PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Been there at least 10 times. Located 3 blocks from the Wire neighborhood. Wrong turn leaving stadium likely to result in carjacking. Fenway Park - bucket list item back in the 90's. Just a cool place to watch a game. I think I have passed on going to more stadiums than I have attended. Seattle Kingdome, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, AZ Cardinals and AZ Diamondbacks, Houston Astros at Astrodome, Saints at Superdome, Minnesota Twins, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. I will likely be watching the Raiders Chiefs game this season in Las Vegas w my buddy Phil. |
Let's see....
Royals/Kauffman Stadium Busch Stadium (old and new) County Stadium Miller Park Comiskey (old and new) Wrigley Yankee Stadium (old) Turner Field Truist Park And I guess since they now play actual MLB games there, I can count the Field of Dreams Park in Iowa |
Not many.
Kauffman Stadium Surprise Stadium Busch Stadium(the new one) Wrigley Field Whatever the stadium the White Sux play in is called. I think it was US Cellular at the time Fenway Park (just a tour, not a game) Petco Park |
A lot of these don't exist anymore...
Kauffman Old Busch Old Yankee Stadium Memorial Stadium (Baltimore) Camden Yards Fenway Park Sky Dome Progressive Field Wrigley Field New Comiskey Three Rivers Stadium Veterans Stadium Riverfront Stadium Dodger Stadium Oracle Park Coors Field Milwaukee County Stadium Nationals Park Comerica Park Citi Field Loan Depot Park (Miami) Daikin Park (Houston) I've also been to all the current Cactus League parks |
Baseball -
Kauffman Wrigley Football - Arrowhead Nissan Stadium (Nashville) NOTE; it is an ugly stadium with no gameday experience Hockey / Basketball - Kemper (Scouts & Kings games) Bridgestone (Nashville) NOTE; the exact opposite of Nissan Stadium & Tit's games, great gameday experience for Pred's games |
Kauffman
Comisky park Wrigley field Candlestick park San Diego Padres (name escapes me. 1980's) |
Kauffman
Arlington Astrodome Busch (old) Coors Edit: Well, yeah, been to Arrowhead and Kemper, AFH, and KU Memorial, KSU stadium, OSU stadium, and was also at the old Houston NBA coliseum of which I don't recall the name of. |
Everyone should visit Coors before MLB gets a salary cap.
Fingers crossed, this year. |
KC - Enough said
Arizona - Like the stadium - we had good seats that were fairly cheap. Nothing overly memorable but a good experience. Oakland - huge dump - was last year and they clearly were putting no work in to make it worth visiting or an experience Cubs - Nice experience, sat in their version of the diamond club and was very nice with a great bar area and seating. Would definitely go back. Cleveland - Standard stadium, nothing really that stood out but enjoyed our seats. We were in upper deck directly behind the plate. Rockies - Nice stadium, nothing spectacular but one of the better experiences. May have been accentuated by randomly going on the night Ichiro had his 3,000th hit Houston - Really nice stadium with good food options. Train gives it an interesting feature Angels - Stadium was fine. Easy to get in and out of. May have been better fan experience if they weren't terrible Dodgers - pretty dumpy. interesting location but definitely showing it's age Pirates - beautiful stadium with a great view. Definitely worth a visit. Padres - stadium was nice, nothing particularly noteworthy but enjoyed the game and experience Giants - Great view and setting. Sat up in the seats right in front of the home run bay. Despite being a decently warm day it was still crazy cold and windy when sitting. Mariners - great stadium, seems to have charm despite not being in the best area. Rays - everyone knows it sucks Rangers - old stadium, terrible sun location, got burnt to a crisp. Only redemption was getting a Drew Butera home run ball. |
Kauffman and Arrowhead and Kemper, and an old downtown arena I cant recall name of where I saw Tennis and basketball at some points, AFH, and KU memorial stadium
The Pond in Anaheim for college BB and hockey Jack Murphy/Qualcomm in San Diego (a massive dump) The LA Colliseum (bigger dump) Staples Center in LA (pretty cool, but way too big for basketball) Petco (Padres) - good place to see a game, easy to get into/out of (YES, downtown parks can be fun!) Arizona Cardinals Stadium (enjoyed it) Arizona Diamondback stadium (meh - pool in outfield was like a pool at a motel 6) Royals stadium in Surprise AZ for spring training - HIGHLY recommend - great time, great seats, super-affordable. |

Not all "ballparks" per se but stadiums and arenas. |
Wrigley - Grew up a Cubs fan.
Fenway - Went in 2014, its when I realized that what the Cubs wanted to do with Wrigley was the right thing to do. White Sox - Blah Royals - I actually love going to games there, take my kid every year. Target Field - Nice, but too enclosed for me. Brewers - For an enclosed stadium, I really like it. Pittsburg - Awesome stadium, love how it sits in town, baseball team sucks. Cleveland - When when Jacobs Field was new, thought it was incredible. Padres - PetCo is nice, don't like how its not all connected, a little chopped up, I like to walk around and check things out. Washington - Nice park, but thought it would have better sight lines. San Fran - Probably my favorite. My brother and I take the ferry and can get ripped and sober up before we get back to the car. Arizona - Not a fan, I don't even like to watch games on TV from there. Nashville needs a baseball team. Seriously. Move Tampa Bay or something. Game would be awesome there. Vegas will rock too. |

They also sit in a lower area of town and downtown Seattle sits up on a hill out past left field. If you’re in the upper deck like we were and the retractable roof is open, the view of the skyline is awesome, and because the park is low and downtown sits above it, the skyscrapers look massive. Also, if you go out onto the upper deck concourse and look west you get terrific views of Puget Sound and on a clear day the Olympic Mountains. I just love Seattle. Great city and the PNW is stunningly beautiful. |
