That was such an exciting time, we were finally respectable for the first time in my life

Gary Cooper 04-17-2025 01:50 PM

I'm guessing it was hot outside in Tampa that day.

Hammock Parties 04-17-2025 01:56 PM

It's remarkable how BAD the Bucs were.

The Chiefs screwed around for a quarter, Montana torched them in the 2nd and 3rd and then Krieg mopped up a boring 4th.

DeBerg was yanked. Poor guy.

I was there with my wife. Sat in the end zone, in front of a drunk chick who was trying to talk smack to us early but by halftime had pretty much shut up, then left by the 4th quarter.

It was hot, but bearable -- unlike the 2019 season opener in Jax, which was like being on the surface of Venus.

Vladimir_Kyrilytch 04-17-2025 03:09 PM

Although I'd been rocking Chiefs official Starter jackets, then Logo Athletic, for several years beforehand, I was constantly accused of being a 49er fan that followed Montana to the Chiefs. It pissed me off, cause I was a Chief fan starting with Deberg as QB, and I was big on Dave Krieg too. Then I get accused of being a 49er fan.

Still pisses me off.

Montana was cool though.

scho63 04-17-2025 03:25 PM

Didn't realize Kevin Ross was still playing

DeBerg wasn’t on that team was he?

Edit: oh you meant he was yanked by the Buccaneers.

Marv Albert pre sexual scandal on the broadcast!

Hammock Parties 04-17-2025 03:38 PM

Next full game will be Bills @ Chiefs Week 11 1993. Full KCFX radio. Another game I have never seen.

He loved his lingerie.

Thanksgiving weekend game. Beat the dog piss out of them in the regular season, they kick our ass in the postseason. The reverse of current day Chiefs/Bills.

Losing to the Bears at home cost the Chiefs home field advantage.

That was one of the worst Buccaneers teams I had ever seen. I was at that game.

He bit them while dressed in lingerie.

Was at that game.... first Chiefs game I attended.

Coogs 04-17-2025 07:59 PM

Love the Tampa orange popsicle color scheme.

I also thought when the officials switched from white pants to black, that it was one of the worst decisions ever. Anytime I see the white pants now...

Rain Man 04-17-2025 08:10 PM

I remember being really stoked and nervous about this game. Montana and Allen in the same backfield seemed like a Super Bowl recipe. I was wrong about that, but whatever.

KCJake 04-17-2025 09:11 PM

Became a Chiefs fan when Montana went to KC. Hated Steve Young and George Seifert. This game versus the Bucs is where it all started for me

SHOWTIME 04-18-2025 02:50 AM

IMO he’s still the real GOAT. The most clutch player in Super Bowl history…

It was the right recipe.
You take the main ingredient and drop it it on the floor in the AFCCG and the recipe changes. Not for the better.

I still have the SI issue after that where he was on the cover. Most excited for a year I ever was.

Not exactly what I would call the reverse. The games now are typically close in the regular season and in the postseason.

Lzen 04-18-2025 07:14 AM

I was a Chiefs fan starting in 1990 with DeBerg at QB. Defense and STs were really good and fun to watch. That being said, defense always sucked going against Buffalo in the playoffs. Offense was fun at times and very frustrating at times. I remember sitting there in shock and disappointment after the Chiefs went to San Diego in the '92 playoffs and got shut out. :(

Then the Chiefs went after Montana that offseason. That was such a breath of fresh air. Montana had a hard time staying healthy that first year (and probably 2nd, as well - can't remember for sure) but when he played, he was money. One of my fondest memories was that game at Houston in the playoffs. Montana was so clutch, it was a pleasure to watch. Even after getting beaten up for most of the game, he came through when it counted. Marcus Allen, as well. Those 2 were key FAs that helped turn the team from a WC team to an actual SB contender.

Agree with all this. The irony is that Dave Krieg saved the 93 season by going 3-2 as a starter. Montana was hurt a little in 94, but didn’t miss as many games. Of course Bono went 0-2 as a starter that year. I remember we barely made the playoffs in 94 and Miami easily beat us the wild card. Montana was physically done at that point.

I remember how much that game hurt to watch. Montana getting picked at the goal line and then Marcus Allen barely fumbling the game away. Sucked to watch the guys who got us to the AFCCG the year before choke. :(

alpha_omega 04-18-2025 10:45 AM

Vs. Deberg. Ha, I had forgotten about that.

Dartgod 04-18-2025 11:03 AM

I love hearing Kevin and Lenny on the radio call.

A year later Dilfer started and went 5/24 td/int ratio his first two years.

Barf

It was WAY harder to play QB back then.

Would be nice if Mahomes had that kind of time to throw...

I had totally forgotten about Ricky Siglar until recently. Alt was close to retirement but he was a club legend. The interior three of Szott, Grunhard, Shields were studs. Siglar is the one that escapes my memory.
