MO Cannabis medical card-Been a while since weed was legalized recreationally in MO

Anyways, mines coming up. They’re a little pricey, worth it or go recreational rogue?

philfree 04-14-2025 09:57 PM

I guess if you have a situation where a med card would keep you employed or out of trouble it might be worth it. If for no reason I'd say go recreational.

You can grow your own in Missouri if'n you want.

ThyKingdomCome15 04-15-2025 01:36 AM

Weed is ghetto.

Katipan 04-15-2025 05:16 AM

4% tax to 6% tax isn’t a very big lure.
Colorado recreational tax is over 25%.

So makes a little more sense.

wazu 04-15-2025 07:15 AM

Just googled the price of a med card in Missouri. Says it's $27.40. This seems like it would pay itself off if you're buying much.

Keep in mind that while it's legal in many states, it is still illegal federally. So if you have a government job, a government contracting job, or a job in a sector like aerospace or finance, you might have trouble getting a job because they make you disclose under penalty of fines and imprisonment.

Tundra Scout 04-15-2025 07:26 AM

Just legalize it in every state already

It's going to require federal legislation unfortunately.

Katipan 04-15-2025 08:11 AM

At $300 an ounce it’s cheaper to take a train to CO.
Illegal too but whatever.

TribalElder 04-15-2025 08:14 AM

as others have stated I believe the draw is it saves you some taxes. Also it might be on a 3 year renewal cycle if you aren't a grower. (disclaimer: I do not have a med card and have never had one)

Katipan 04-15-2025 08:15 AM

In theory you have higher dosages too.
But barring severe chronic pain, you don’t need it.

Katipan 04-15-2025 08:16 AM

Oh I suppose it’s helpful for travel. Many states are reciprocal.

Legally you have to have the card to grow, you also have to purchase a separate license from the state that you can only get if you have your med card. So if you plan on growing & you want to do it legally you still need the card.

Also the card makes it so you can't be fire for a random drug test at your job. They can still test you upon hiring & they can still test you if you're in an accident at work, but they can't just do a random drop & fire you over it. Other than that if you're just going to buy from the dispensary anyway I'm not sure it's worth the hassle/cost to save a small amount on taxes.

That's what you pay to the state for the card, but it also requires a prescription which you also have to pay for. Costs of the Dr "visit" (most places do virtual appointments) vary pretty wildly, I've seen well over $100 & the cheapest I think I've found was about $70 if I remember correctly. It used to only be good for 1 year, but now it lasts 3 which makes the costs much more palatable.

Yeah, wasn't clear from the OP if the doctor visit was needed. He says the card is "coming up" which I assume means for a renewal. I guess if that also requires a doctor's visit then the the whole thing could be $120 or so.

Exactly. Even the out-of-state limits in MO for recreational are so high, you probably won't care at all.

I'm on disability for severe chronic pain.

Heart complications stop me from having 2 back surgeries.

I won't touch pain pills outside of ibuprofen.

It would take a doctor's visit. That's where the cost is at.

Odd thing is I'm such a lightweight. 2 puffs on a joint and I'm done for the night. A joint will literally last me a week, so I don't buy much. I only mess with edibles if I don't have anything to do the next day. With a joint, I'm good in about 3 hours. With edibles, it's a crap shoot.

I thought about trying to grow and then I'm reminded that I once killed a cactus.

Here is Florida you have to pay $179 every 6 months to a doctor to keep getting the weed. Then you have to pay $75 to register with the state every 2 years.

I'll pay that willingly to avoid worrying about the police making a public example out of me. Which has occurred many times so far. Very public arrest press conferences. No growing your own wither.

I don't buy ounces these days but last time I was at the dispensary I got three different 8ths for around $100.00 total so that would work out to about $300.00 an ounce. I don't think there's any need to drive to Colorado from Missouri to get weed.

Off to El Salvador for you.

Fish 04-15-2025 10:50 AM

Keep it simple. Just get a 1g disposable vape, and take small hits. One little puff of that is equivalent to several puffs from a joint. If you're a lightweight like you say, it should last you months. It's easy to use, very discreet, and doesn't stink up your clothes and the surrounding area like skunk farts.

Use it up, toss it and buy another.

Personally don't like the taste of weed vapes. Taste like wheat grass.

I prefer the aroma of a nice KC kush.

Wheat grass? Sounds like you need to try some different variety of vapes. They come in about 4,000 different strains/flavors. Including KC kush.

Your other post made it look like the ounces there were $300.00 so I misunderstood. $50.00 at a dispensary? Good quality?

Total Wine and More sells THC-infused beverages. (No alcohol.) They replace the social factor of drinking a beer with instead basically drinking a carbonated liquid edible.

Ok quality. Most of our ounces hover around $120. Small batch super cultivated rich bitch weed you can find at $300.

$5 gummies - thc distillate.
Live Rosin gummies are $20.

My Florida weed card works at the dispensaries in Jamaica. And they have the best mushroom chocolate bars I’ve ever had in my life too!
