That sucks.
Guy had an awfully tough go of things the last 10 years or so. Was always hopeful he'd finally come out the other side but that throat cancer seemed awfully aggressive. Some great roles. |

I like you Clarence, always have, always will. |
Anyone watch the Val doc. Good stuff of his battle and career.
|
Rip.
One of my favorites. Just watched Felon last night. |
Ugh. RIP, Val. Thank you for the cinematic memories through the years. He will always be Doc Holliday.
I'm very happy they were able to get him in to Top Gun: Maverick. His quick scene with Cruise was as good of a scene there was through that whole movie. |
Tombstone has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid. Might have been the first R rated movie i ever watched.
RIP to a real one. |
RIP Val

I think my favorite Kilmer movies are Real Genius and Thunderheart. I think I'll watch at least one of them tomorrow in his honor.

Val Kilmer…. Very good actor. Top Gun was only his third feature after doing Top Secret and Real Genius. And not exactly a great movie to show off “range”, but I do recall wondering, is that the same dude who just made popcorn explode a house? And now he’s a prick with a flat top? Okay. Then he rolls in as Madmartigan, huge movie that didn’t do great. Sorta crushed any further Ron Howard/Lucas collaborations.
And then Oliver Stone got ahold of him…. The Doors could’ve been really good. There are great moments. Val is always good, but he was directed to end up looking like a dumbass. Jim Morrison died young, but he wasn’t exactly the drunken buffoon the way Stone made him out to be. And around this time was when the rumors swirled about Val being a pain in the ass. I think many of those rumors are true. But he got that role in Tombstone…. Crushed it. Even if the movie isn’t completely accurate, everyone knows he owned that movie, and we all quote it…. “I’ll be your huckleberry…”. And many more… He had a few more shows as top billing, most aren’t very noteworthy. His gift was as second fiddle, and there’s an art to that and when you’re good, you can own movies. His part in “Heat” clearly illustrates this. The Batman role notwithstanding, he’s kinda spent 20 years in the wild. On good films, or just “big movies”, he’s 4th or 5th billed, usually a solid performance. My ex worked on a movie about 18 years ago, and his ranch in NM was part of the set and also basecamp, etc…. He made good work of that ranch being part of many films. My ex said that yeah, he was around, and he was always kind, gracious and often times actors and select crew would hang in “the house” for after hours drinks, poker and just hanging out. And then he got throat cancer. Career basically over. And he was always very weird about it. But goddammit if they didn’t do a Top Gun 2. So many sequels and reboots in my life, some sequels just suck, no matter the timing, if it’s 2 years or in this case over 30 years. The movie isn’t great, but it’s one of the best, wholly formed long lost sequels that we didn’t need, didn’t want didn’t care about, until **** it. Top Gun 2, Maverick. People might laugh at me, but Cruise got that one scene with Kilmer. It’s a good scene. And it was the heart of the film. And you could tell Val and Cruise knew it. And it wasn’t forced. I mean, maybe sorta, but certainly no more forced than any movie where we see beloved characters from 40 years ago share the screen together in the same world again. My dad died almost 3 years ago, and I loved that man. When I first watched the Top Gun sequel, I was just enjoying it and having fun with nostalgia until Val showed up, I caught a tear, and make fun of me if you want, but the end, with Lady GaGa singing, she built that swell, and I lost it…. Months of crying came out…. Thank god I didn’t see it in the theater! God bless you Val, and RIP. You had a life…. And you were a good friend. |
RIP
I'm your huckleberry he stole the show in Tombstone |

Dude was incredible. RIP

I actually liked one of his more recent films, Felon. But I am a sucker for prison movies.

In the family group text my family knows me for my Doc Holiday memes. One of my favorite characters and actor combos ever. RIP, this is sad. The 90's are going the way of the 80's.

Man. RIP. Such a great actor. So happy they got him that one great scene in Maverick.
So many great roles. MadMartigan in Willow might still be my favorite. He was also truly great as a pure comedic guy in stuff like Real Genius and Top Secret |

While Willow was pretty corny, he was excellent in that one again as Madmartigan.

RIP to a ****ing legend. One of my favorite actors of all time.
I’ll also die on the hill that Batman Forever was a really fun movie. Argue with your mama! |
Well dang. RIP
Was in many of my favorite movies: Real Genius, Top Secret, Top Gun, Tombstone, and Heat, to name a few. His portrayal of Mark Twain was said to be great. Also, **** cancer. |

He pulled out a Bat credit card at one point lol completely ridiculous. Not to mention Jim Carrey’s Riddler being so over-the-top. |
Chris Knight:
Have you ever seen a body like this before in your life? David Decker: She happens to be my daughter. Chris Knight: Oh. Then I guess you have. |
Mitch:
The weirdest thing just happened to me. Chris Knight: Was it a dream where you were where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid, with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you? Mitch: No... Chris Knight: Why, am I the only one who has that dream? |

I'm not usually one who cares significantly on celebrity deaths, but this one sucks. Kilmer was one of the best at his craft. I always would say Val Kilmer was a top 5% actor, who had a tendency after 1995 to pick from the bottom 5% of scripts, but he seemingly gave his all in every film he was in. Phenomenal talent.

Very underrated career. He was really good in Heat.
Really sucks that cancer took a toll on him. He had so much left to give. |
