The Backup
Per Shefter Chiefs signed Gardner Minshew.
Nice
I can see him filling in nicely for a couple of games if we need him to.
Really?
Oh, this is great! I love Minshew.
Let’s **** bitches in the ass!!!

Great pickup

LETS ****!!!
Good move!
You know what I like the most about this?
This is the first time PM's backup has been younger than him. That's a sea change. Reid always wanted a 'veteran presence' in the room. This is (finally) acknowledging that it's just not necessary. Which means that in a year or two I could see us maybe using a 3rd day pick on a developmental backup QB that we try to pump/dump in the old-school Andy style. |
Two teh chip!!

I ****ing love this dude! Stoked to have him, worried about his play on the field, but his vibes are 1000%!!!!
It’s fitting… his first NFL appearance was in relief of Nick Foles… vs the Chiefs.

Gardner Shin-Soo Choo
LFG! |
I like it, he can scramble around and make some things happen
I'd sit Mahomes during the regular season now imho
Minshew magic.
Rag arm QB is ready to run the Matt Nagy 2 yard pass offense. |
He and Travis can have a pornstache off
probably better than Wentz.
I like this signing, am fully entertained.

Minshew Magic comes to KC...LOL
Well, in a year where no LT options were available, very wise to sign a guy that could see some action
This is an insanely good move. I’m still shocked and disappointed that wentz was such a dud. But this move is even better. Good move for minshew as well realizing his best option is a place he can be a long term backup

NTTAWWT, LFG! |
The Las Vegas Raiders released Minshew on Wednesday, one year after signing him to a two-year, $25 million contract.
Looks like it was 15 million guaranteed. Thanks Tom, |
Wonder if he’s gonna make Mahomes give up #15
I like it.
Literally only need DL at this point before the draft. |
I'm ****ing ba, da, da, da, dah... loving it.
I've wanted Minshew as QB2 for some time now and it has happened. I hope this guy sticks with KC for the remainder of his career. Solid #2 guy that can hold his own if/when pressed into service. Never did I think that QB2 would be my favorite signing of the off-season. |
Love Minshew! He's my favorite backup in the Mahomes' era, with no disrespect to Henne or Moore.
Since people want to run off Naggy. His replacement would likely be Jon Gruden. Brother Jay has worked with Gardner

Love it. Usually feel like there are at least 3 or 4 teams each year that would easily be better off with Minshew as their starter.

Best part about this signing is the Raiders are still paying him $6.7 million LMAO
Wentz was really bad. He looked lost and totally not even a back up.
Booger??
Hey, nice. I like this news.

he likes turnovers, hopefully you aren’t in a position you need him to win you a game

Still has some upside. We talked about how Andy used to develop and trade. I would love the idea of Trey Lance to compete with Oladokun for the 3rd spot on the ps. And have Lance know that’s the plan is for him to have a restart to his career by running the scout team on KCs taxi squad. Nothing to lose by either side except Lance not making as much money as he would being on someone’s 53 |
Mintchew has everything you want in a franchise quarterback except the arm talent. If he had even an average arm he’d be a star.
As he is, he’s a top notch backup who can be successful in spots. You just don’t want him starting for an extended period. |
Andy will rebrand him. It's G. Flint Minshew

Gardner Minshew is the new Jeff Garcia.
Didn't the fade release him with a failed physical designation?

A victory for the old school. Veach understands the true power of tube socks and the cumstache.

He's fun. |
We got him for the veterans minimum which is awesome due to the Raiders paying him so much dead money. Thanks Raiders!
We also brought back Bailey Zappe.
Minshew Mania rolling into KC? Aw yeah, LFG!!
Was never excited about Wentz last year. At least Minshew can run a little but he can also throw it to CB all to often.

Gardiner Minshew was interviewed on the Tampa Bay Rays pregame show today. He’s in town because his friend since childhood, Jake Mangum, was making his major league debut. Minshew is such a dude.

Gardner Minshew spent last offseason embroiled in a quarterback battle. This year, his job is simply to back up a three-time Super Bowl MVP.
Signing with the Kansas City Chiefs as Patrick Mahomes insurance a year after being an opening-day starter, Minshew said he's simply there to lend support. "If there's any way I can help this team, whether it's from the scout team, helping Pat in meetings, whether it's just bringing the good energy to practice," Minshew said this week, via the Kansas City Star. "I look forward to just doing whatever I can to contribute and help this team win." For the most part, over the past seven years, the Chiefs backup was there to be in meetings, offer verbal support, and occasionally play in a meaningless Week 18 tilt. Mahomes has missed two games due to injury in his career. While Chad Henne did have to play pivotal snaps in the playoffs after Mahomes went down with an ankle injury in the 2022 Super Bowl run, the past two backups have simply been caddies. Carson Wentz played eight snaps against the Cleveland Browns in Week 15 when Mahomes had a sore ankle, and he started with the backups in a Week 18 blowout loss. The previous year, Blaine Gabbert also appeared in two games, mop-up duty, and another season finale cameo. Minshew said that, along with the chance to chase a Super Bowl, the prospect of playing for Andy Reid drew him to K.C. "That was another big reason I chose to come to Kansas City," Minshew said. "I've always been a huge fan of coach Reid's offenses. I've always felt that that was something I could do well in." Minshew has started at least two games in all six years he's been in the NFL. Even in the two seasons he was the clear backup in Philadelphia, he made four total starts. K.C. hopes that streak of at least two starts ends in 2025. Minshew's job is to aid Mahomes in the film room and be at the ready if injury strikes so that the Chiefs' postseason plans don't flounder if the former MVP must miss snaps or games. "Being a starting quarterback in the NFL is a hard deal, with all the expectations, especially for a guy like (Mahomes)," Minshew said." Sometimes it's having a safe place in the quarterback room where you can in and let off some steam or just have a good laugh. That little stuff is very important getting through weeks ... and getting through years." |
