Taco Travesty
It is with great sadness that I must report the best taco shells ever, are no longer available. Anyone else sad about this?

Damn, white people taco night is canceled!!!
|
If they're so good, why are they going out of business?
|
SONOFABITCH!
|
Why would you use a taco shell when you can use a tortilla?
|
We started eating them when we lived in the KC area. Surprisingly we found them here in Ky (1989)since the store here were stocked with Associated Groceries from KCK.
I have that they were getting hard to find. Going to miss that thin shell! |
Oh no! Those were my go-to.
|
The white corn ones were thinner and better but they've been really hard to find since around COVID.
You had to be willing to tolerate a few dead soldiers but it was worth it. |
No shell, no lettuce, no bueno

if you want it crispy just fry the tortilla tortilla fried in chorizo fat >>>> |
Soft corn tortillas the best

I'm sure some enterprising scumbags will still offer them for sale on eBay at $100 a box.
|
They had to wait one more day to release the news

Which is usually a good sign. There's a reason those Taco Bell shells last forever and it ain't the quality of the ingredients. |
Does that mean we have to resort to Old El Paso?

Just checked and it is 36 left. The air fryers works wonders on shells and chips..

Between this and Spanish Gardens there goes my Thursday night in the 90s.

I thought this was thread about Chris Jones new girlfriend

My son was disappointed by the news that they closed permanently. I wasn't as big a fan but when Perez shut it down they left me no choice. All the other hard shells on the grocery shelves suck. Arts is as far as I know still going strong just hard to find. I tried the Aldi brand last week and Son was fine with those so it's our go to.
Spanish Gardens had a fire at the taco house in the Argentine District. The owner is committed to rebuilding. The distribution center is in another location and the sauce and seasoning is still on the shelves. |

This sucks. I had to get another brand last week and they were awful, no more homemade Tacos for me. Perez Corn Tortillas are gone as well.
|
Taco Travesty would be a good band name.

That sucks. Always the one I got as well. I have some in the pantry now. They are probably a year old at this point but I’m sure they are still good.

Never seen that brand around here, sounds like they're quite popular
When I'm doing American style tacos, I prefer the stand and stuff style from Old El Paso... you can really load' em up and they're so much easier to plate without half your toppings falling out |

But with American style tacos I'm pretty easy to please |

I had to have my bother deliver them yearly. Dang.I hope someone buys them out.

As far as I know they only made corn tortilla shells and taco seasoning. They were on 69th street east of N Oak in Gladstone Mo. It was in the old Guys Foods bldg before they went to larger digs in Liberty Mo.
Anyone who I knew who worked there didn't stay long and said the owner treated everyone like trash. After Covid, he really struggled to keep employees. Growing up we just bought the corn tortillas made by Spanish Gardens. We fried then up in a pan of oil with taco shell tongs. |
I've never looked into it, but it can't be that hard to make tortillas. And ones you make yourself would probably taste much better than the crap available in grocery stores.
|
Speaking of guy's, whatever happened to them?
Remember guy's being big in the 80's down there, consistent advertiser with the royals and royals on radio with Denny Matthew's. |

It's kind of funny, I stumbled upon a FB group dedicated to bringing them back. :D Lots of conversation about them on there and on Reddit, but I don't want to bring that over here. |

Well **** no wonder I haven't seen them in my Walmart recently. That sucks
|
That lady wasn't joking, they had 10 or 12 boxes of those shells.
If it's popular enough maybe somebody will buy it and start making them again. 3000 more posts and.. |
Kind of off subject, but remember when the company that made twinkies went out of business? They came back, eventually. I have a feeling that someone with some coin will probably make a play for these little bastards!!!
|
My go to
Will probably go primarily with tortillas now. |

In 61 years of life, I have never purchased a single taco shell. Tortillas once, taco shells never.
Never made a Mexican dish except a cold 5 bean salad that has Mexican flavors. Never my thing. I know people go crazy for Mexican food. |

Someone will buy them and continue the best taco shells available.

Do it. Use something like this: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qXQDZaD0zfg?si=y3cH3SiZR4oRwRV7" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen=""></iframe> Their website says 25 bucks for two of them. Fry them in lard. |
We have an Hispanic grocery. I buy my tortillas there.

I expected this to be a thread about food poisoning on an airplane with 1 restroom.
