Todd Haley: Still living off that McDonald's money. PIMP! :D

Rain Man 03-06-2025 06:59 PM

Since the NFL is the pinnacle of the sport, it's tempting to think that NFL teams are well run by professionals. But apparently not. I bet 25 percent of current NFL teams (not the Chiefs, obviously) do stuff like this now.

Hammock Parties 03-06-2025 07:10 PM

Chiefs were ahead by 20 points when this happened. Cassel should have respected the coaching staff. Instead he knew he was Pioli's boy and Haley couldn't really touch him.

Whatever lesson Haley was trying to teach Cassel that day didn't sink in. The results were clear in the postseason and in the following two seasons.

****ed up organization.

Hammock Parties 03-06-2025 07:30 PM

In the next two weeks Cassel was 20 of 51 for 185 yards and 5 INT.

All Haley's fault, I'm sure.

Jewish Rabbi 03-06-2025 07:34 PM

Wonder if Cassel has a garage or curbs

Hammock Parties 03-06-2025 07:36 PM

He does, I'm sure, but he also has to live with being the worst QB in KC Chiefs history.

Matt Cassel or Brodie Croyle?

Some are starting to say Croyle…..

Hammock Parties 03-06-2025 08:11 PM

Casshole was worse than Palko or Croyle because no one ever expected anything out of them.

Mark Castle is the worst because he was put in the position to start for 4 ****ing years. Palko, Croyle, hell... not even Blackledge did as much damage to the team and/or the fanbase as Mark Castle.

I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

That was Pioli's fault. He created that culture.

Haley was probably in over his head but he had a much better NFL career than Cassel. The teams he coached on won at a 61 percent clip.

My brother is a Steelers fan. He has stated multiple times that he would take Haley over any OC they have had since him. I 100% agree with him.

Haley is a resounding asshole... but an effective OC.

irafreak 03-06-2025 10:12 PM

Sorry but it's always blackledge. He was such a wash the chiefs gave up on first round qbs for 3 decades.

But cassel was awful.

Bump 03-06-2025 10:15 PM

Some of us appreciate this current team more after experiencing those Todd Haley years and even the Herm Edwards years right before it lol. Even the good years under Dick Vermeil and Marty only ended in disappointment.

He had a HOF QB in his prime, prime bell, a great WR and one of the better lines the steelers have had in awhile. Even big ben admitted he would brush off some of Haleys calls. Hard to imagine they'd take over Arians who IIRC helped take them to 2 super bowls

Mephistopheles Janx 03-06-2025 10:37 PM

To this day... I am completely bewildered by the fact that Castle had a career post KC. 7 more seasons to be exact.

Fun Facts:

Only 1 of those 7 years did he throw more TDs than INTs. - 2013 Vikings

Only 1 of those 7 years did he have a QBR above 52.3 - 2016 Titans (30 for 51 / 2TD 2INT / 66.6 QBR)

He stole a further $18m from 5 franchises in 7 years after KC. Alas, none of them AFCW teams.

His career longest pass was 79 yards... but it was a catch and run by Cordarrelle Patterson and it came in a, SURPRISE, loss.

Has the most punchable face in NFL history.

Cracked 7+ YPA only twice in his miserable career (not including his 24 attempts in his rookie season). In contrast... Mahomes has dipped below 7 YPA just once (last season).

He only played 3 complete seasons over 15 years and "earned" $65.5 million dollars. Most of it gifted to his by a shitbag named Pioli.

Holds the official record for having his likeness on a sticker that was placed in a urinal.

Ok... I made that last one up but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it were true.

RealSNR 03-06-2025 10:38 PM

Haley still gets undeserved faint praise from Chiefs fans. People will say he was a bad coach and some fan will come in and say, "Yeah, he was bad, but at least he knew it and tried to do something about it."

Yelling and screaming and having performative temper tantrums like the one Cassel described isn't "doing something about it" if that's the only coaching tool you have. It is, however, the most visually obvious example of coaching that fans can see on game day. They see Haley yelling at his players and it makes them feel better because it makes them feel like THEY'RE yelling at the players.

Still, though... **** Matt Cassel. Howdy doody douche ass was always doing all the spouting leadership crap through his horrible stretches of bad and ineffective play. Talentless prick didn't understand that your team follows you because you can actually hit the broad side of a goddamn barn at a consistent clip, not because you say stupid insufferable affirmations on the sideline and in the locker room. Totally tone deaf.

One of my biggest regrets in life is I wasn't at that game in 2012 to cheer his injury.

There's only four to five teams every year that have a chance.

Pioli and his butt buddy Cassel can get ****ed. Say what you want about Haley but what they did was straight up Patriot Way evil shit.

Haley went to go be the Steelers OC and immediately pounded the Chiefs the next season in a glorious nationally televised revenge game.

Haley had VALUE as a coach.

Matt Cassel was a Great Value brand NFL QB.

RealSNR 03-07-2025 10:09 AM

Here’s some troll ammo for anybody who wants it:

Only one QB in NFL history has thrown for 400+ yards in consecutive games. That QB is Matt Cassel.

Yep. One of those weird stats that is bordering on unjust. You think you can’t be as bad as Cassel was at your job and hold a notable distinction like that. And yet here we are and there it is.

First time I heard that I thought “What’s next? Is Mike Cloud the only RB in NFL history with consecutive 200 yard games?”

This goes in under the "wow, interesting" category that also holds Elvis Grbac's 500-yard game.

Two of the worst examples of leadership I've ever seen from a QB:

1. Being booed by the fans and mouthing 'shut the **** up' during a game.

2. Holding a post game press conference after the same game, in which he threw 4 INT, and saying, straight-faced "I graded out perfectly."

the only player I ever hoped got injured. That's pretty uncharacteristic of me and if I went back in time I probably wouldn't have posted a bunch of times that I hoped he got hurt. But it was the only way that he was going to get off the field. Dark times.

He also ****ed around with the chain of command and whether he intended it or not, he sowed distrust and disrespect towards the coaching staff.

When Reid told Mahomes to go get an x-ray in the Jacksonville playoff game and Mahomes told him, "**** no!" guess what happened? Mahomes got the x-ray. What if Mahomes pulled a Cassel and hobbled onto the field anyway? It says to the other players that you can indeed tell your coaches to **** off and get your way. And that's what happened with Cassel and Haley.

And that shit isn't written anywhere in the Patriot bible.

Neither had any business being in the NFL as a coach or professional QB. Cassell was a lifetime mediocre backup QB in college and yet somehow smuggled himself into the NFL and rode a magic carpet into Arrowhead. Haley was a petulant anti-social type-b personality that got a job with the Jets because of his dad's (deep) connections. You could say Pioli was the real villain but than again he's even more of a pretender at GM. Never should have been hired. So then it goes to the Owner. In 2009 Clark had only been managing operations for a handful of years and to me it seems as if he got hoodwinked by riff-raff associated with Pacells and the Patriots. He's done better since.

Rain Man 03-10-2025 11:54 AM

It baffles me that we made the playoffs in 2010 under Cassel and Haley. If I was a Hall of Fame voter, this would be my main argument for Jamaal Charles.
