Putting QBs in Tiers is a thing, not to be confused with how the Chiefs put opposing QBs (and their fans) in tears. Following is a list of the Chiefs starting QBs, excluding the minor players (like you, Palko)

Tier 1 is pretty easy - Super Bowl Winners: Mahomes, Dawson.
Tier 2 - Montana, Smith, Green. Joe made it the CCG. Some bag on Alex Smith for not being Mahomes as if Mahomes was an option during those years. Smith and Green made us feel like we might have a chance, even if we really weren't there yet.

After that, it gets murkier - I have trouble remembering the '80s and '70s
Tier 3 - I'm going with Kenny, DeBerg, Grbac
Tier 4 - the rest - i don't feel like sorting out the bottom

Make as many tiers as you wish.

Keep ****ing doubting Damon Huard

Gannon is a tough one. Tier 2 or 3 while he was in KC. I could swing either way.

Dave Krieg tier 3

What tier would Gannon be if the Chiefs kept him instead of Grbac? Or was Oakland just a perfect fit for him? I always wondered about that.

Missing Kyle Orton on the list.

Also, Tyler Palko. Haley started him several times just for the hell of it.

Brady Quinn actually made 8 starts for us? How could I forget.

Add Ron Jaworski and Steve Pelleur. They each started games in 1989

Love Len Dawson and he will always be a KC Legend! However, no one is on the same tier as Patrick Mahomes.

Tier 1: Mahomes

Tier 2: Dawson

Tier 3: the dudes you had on tier 2

Tier 4: everyone else.

With exception of three or four of those players, this is an incredibly depressing list of suck.

2009-2012 Matt Cassel 47 starts


Just threw up a little tier,

The top of this list is easy/no debate.

It’s more interesting to debate who is the worse QB in franchise history.

I think Palko and Broke Dick Croyle are nearly tied for that “honor”.

Gruden built that offense for him. Better fit than KC, no doubt. But Gannon was pretty good between scrambling and feisty leader.

Low pay and low expectations for both.


Casshole is the pimple on the ass of this franchise and always will be.

Casshole had that one good statistical season with Charlie Weis.

.........I was at the game where Damon Huard beat the living shit out of the 49ers 41-0. Alex Smith for the 49ers sucked it up that game.

Man you gotta think we beat Denver then Pittsburgh during that 97 season if we started Gannon.

Doubtful we beat GB in SB, but you never know.

Denver probably wins the SB the next year in 98 though.

Pelleur(sp?)

I remember being pretty salty when Gannon took the Raiders to the Super Bowl.

I was dumb enough to think Steve Fuller was the answer.

Whatever, I was a teenager and there was no internet, leave me alone.

Matt Cassel belongs in his own Matt Cassel tier

Cassel was shit but he looked like Johnny ****ing Unitas compared to Tyler Palko.

Gannon would have never been an MVP here under Marty and Gunther.

He was a perfect fit for Gruden offense at the time. Plus he had two Hall of Fame WRs to throw to in Oakland.

The Raiders have sucked during my entire Chiefs fandom except between 1999-2002 when they had Gannon.
