Who’s the unsung hero of Super Bowl 59?

Each Super Bowl win in the Mahomes era had an unsung hero (or two) step up to lead us to the promised land.

Super Bowl 54: Damien Williams

Williams always had an extra gear in the playoffs, but he took it to another level in 54. 17/104, one rushing TD to ice it and a critical receiving TD to take the lead. If Derrick Henry had that performance in the Super Bowl it’d be the primary focus of his Hall of Fame induction, and we got it from Damien Williams.

Super Bowl 57: Kadarius Toney

This dude was on the field for only 8 offensive snaps and was a devastating decoy while scoring a Super Bowl tuddy and nabbing the longest punt return in Super Bowl history.

(Honorable Mention to Khalen Saunders here)

Super Bowl 58: Mecole Hardman

After a devastating goal line fumble against the Bills, Mecole came to Super Bowl 58 and caught one of the best deep balls in Super Bowl history and caught the walkoff touchdown.

(Honorable Mention to Tommy Townsend here)

Requirements: Players can’t be considered among our elite, but can be solid role players for us going in. Who do you got for 59?

DJay23 01-30-2025 09:40 PM

I would say Nick Allegretti was the unsung hero of LVIII

With that I'm going with Caliendo. I say he does a fine enough job and we are singing his praises post game.

New World Order 01-30-2025 09:41 PM

Remigio

Is Bolton considered elite?
If not I’m going with a Defense play. Nick Bolton-force/recover fumble for a TD.

Hmmm... I mean there are a few obvious choices but I'm gonna go outside the box and pick everyone's favorite guy to bag on.... Nazeeh Johnson gets his first career pick and it's a pick 6.

Oooh, good call. Andrew Wylie has a big argument in Super Bowl 57, too.

Omenihu with two sacks. One of them a strip sack and recovery late in the game to seal the 3 peat. That dude seemed fired up to be playing in the SB.

I was completely against Nazeeh Johnson, but God damn he had a stellar game against the Bills last week. He had probably the best game among all of our DBs.

irafreak 01-30-2025 11:58 PM

Juju with 3 big catches, one for a td.

This game is in a dome on turf. Hollywood Brown is going to light it up. I'm expecting Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown both go deep for touchdowns.

CupidStunt 01-31-2025 04:50 AM

Jaylen Watson is gonna have AJB reading on the sidelines.

This game has Leo Chenal doing something crazy written all over it.

Dude is going to polevault over the tush push and throw Hurts eight yards backwards.

Chris Jones is pretty ****ing sung, dude.

KC_Lee 01-31-2025 08:46 AM

Mike Caliendo on Offense
Jaden Hicks on Defense
Leo Chenal on Special Teams, blocking on returns specifically, but also effecting at least 2 kicks, either PAT or FG.

Chris Meck 01-31-2025 08:55 AM

Leo Chenal.

He's going to come up big.

Considering he played 3 quartes of the game with one good arm, this is spot on. Allegretti was a beast, and God DAMN could we really have used him this season.

The media thought it was a big enough deal to tell everyone Skyy Moore would practice before the Super Bowl, but didn't bother to mention Chris Jones would also be at practice... if that tells you anything.

Buehler445 01-31-2025 11:57 AM

Good thread.

Lots of good potential here.

I like Leo spying Jalen.

I like Juju ripping apart the 4th CB.

Hunt is obviously a good story.

I like Cook. He was in the neighborhood of 2 picks last week. Maybe he can hang around the ball and get some big plays.

I think Dana jamming up Barkleys running lanes would be pretty big, but unlikely to have a standout effort.

Calliendo jamming up Carter would be huge.

I’m a Perine homer so I’m there for that.

big nasty kcnut 01-31-2025 12:08 PM

RunKC 01-31-2025 12:13 PM

How can you not have Leo Chenal as THE unsung hero of the SB last year?

Forced the McCaffrey fumble turnover, blocked a vital FG that only put us back 3 instead of 4 which was critical at the end of the game.

Was the guy destroying the outside runs on the 49ers tried to run on us which was their bread and butter.

Sassy Squatch 01-31-2025 12:24 PM

Leo Chenal isn't unsung though? He's was one of the best defenders in both 57 and 58 and I thought that was pretty well a consensus opinion.

Megatron96 01-31-2025 02:32 PM

I'll play.

Perine or Remigio.

This is a Chenal game for sure. He's built to stop Barkley. I think Hicks will have over a half dozen tackles too.

Rainbarrel 01-31-2025 02:59 PM

Since it's the Eagles something for Wentz could be on the call sheet

It's still ****ing crazy that we held Josh Allen to 39 yards rushing on 11 carries.

And 13 came on one play.

Buffalo basically wasted 10 plays with the ball in Allen's hands.

Have to think he was responsible for a lot of that.

SAGA45 01-31-2025 03:30 PM

Caliendo

Rasputin 01-31-2025 06:35 PM

I bet they have a trick play with Carson Wentz gets to make a play that scores for the Chiefs.

jjchieffan 01-31-2025 11:43 PM

Wharton and Chenal. Wharton will deflect a Hurts pass and end up catching it. Freaking out about having the ball he will look to his right and there will be Chenal. He will lateral the ball to Chenal who will return it for a TD and give us a 2 TD lead early in the 4th quarter.

Not expecting that, but his play was a crucial momentum swinger. We could use another one

Monticore 02-01-2025 05:24 AM

Jaylen Watson , few big pass breakups and an int on a few Hurts prayer balls

htismaqe 02-01-2025 07:01 AM

Alex Smith

chiefforlife 02-01-2025 09:21 AM

I hope Carson Wentz has ZERO to do with this game.

I dont want any trick BS with this guy, no designed plays, Nothing!

Unless we are resting Patrick in the 4th, up by 35 points.

I like it. Felix has had some nice backfield tackles in the postseason that people seem to ignore

philfree 02-01-2025 03:40 PM

Remigio with a big return and an appearance on offense where Reid dials up a play in the redzone similar to corndog where he scores a TD.

IowaHawkeyeChief 02-01-2025 04:23 PM

Bryan Cook with a pick six...

Dave Toub and his Special Teams squad.

RunKC 02-03-2025 11:28 AM

Gonna go with Mike Danna. He’s so so good at stopping the run and making plays in the pass rush. A complete DE.

Spencer Brown had the 2nd lowest sack % and was a top 5 RT. Danna got a sack, a TFL and 2 QB hits on him while doing a nice job maintaining his gap and stopping the run.

He’s gonna be really important on Sunday

Fansy the Famous Bard 02-03-2025 11:30 AM

Furious George will have 3... count them THREE sacks.

UNSUNG hero though.... I'm going to change up the rules a bit and put the entire Defensive Backfield. The young guys are all going to step up along-side Justin Reid's leadership and play an incredible game.

UChieffyBugger 02-03-2025 11:43 AM

Could Hopkins be a factor this game? I can imagine some packages being schemed up for him in the redzone tbh. Especially when I think Philly will be obsessed with stopping corndog and that Worthy play that he scored twice against the Bills and so many other times too. I also think they'll no doubt guard Travis so Hopkins could be wide open if Andy cooks things up.

I said it last week after I watched the All 22 - Danna had a career-best game against the Bills. He was really, really good.

Jaden Hicks. He will be big against the run and screen passes and play well deep.
