The Pitt. Max

Watched it last night. Super good! It will remind you of ER because of the frantic pacing and Noah Wylie. But it carves out its own niche.

It’s doing the format of each episode is near realtime of an hour of the ER doctors shift

15 episodes and the first hour starts at 7am when shift starts.

Check it out!

displacedinMN 01-10-2025 02:19 PM

I am looking forward to watching it.
I saw that Critons family was not happy, thought it looked too much like ER with Wiley in it.

ER is the best medical show.

ER is the best medical show.

It has a feel of ER some for sure. It’s the same creators and set in an ER.

But since this show is set almost exclusively inside a Pittsburgh ER over one day, it won’t deal with the outside world drama like love life’s and personal issues. For now anyway.

KCUnited 01-10-2025 05:36 PM

I never watched ER but fun fact the ER in that show was based loosely on Cook County Hospital in Chicago where I've been admitted to

Wild beyond belief experience(s). The people that show up for those jobs everyday are a different breed

Never appreciated these types of shows until that event so will definitely tune into this

Absolutely. Heroes. Every single one.

Never much got into medical shows. I think due to my parents watching Dr Kildare and Marcus Welby MD all the damn time.

KCUnited 01-14-2025 07:26 AM

I watched E1 last night and it felt really authentic

I bet ER doctors hear more shit than priests as people probably say all kinds of stuff when they're bleeding or broken (I was a curtain between a guy who got his gun hand blown off in a shootout and was candidly telling the doctor about how he was certain he hit the other guy first and asked if he was also in the same ER LMAO)

Definitely not a show I could binge due to the heaviness of the content which is a compliment to the show

Yep. Seems pretty realistic to me. Other than I doubt there is that many emergencies in such a small amount of time. But there could be days for sure that happens. Especially in inner city hospitals.

I like the realtime in one day format. Similar to the 24 tv show gimmick.

The "walking dead" reference in E1 where nursing home/assisted living staff show up for their shifts to find people in need of emergency care and how the ER staff can set their clocks to their arrival everyday was pretty jarring (I know that’s every hospital)

The comment of "who has it worse, us or them" just seems like something I would say haha

Watching E2 tonight

I generally abhor hospital shows. My wife could recite Greys Anatomy lines as they're being said. You name it, she watches it.

The only halfway tolerable show I'd seen was House, and just because the guy was such a hilarious asshole to his staff and patients alike.

She started this one yesterday, and it was able to draw my interest away from my phone and actually give a shit what's happening.

I think the single shift format is the biggest hook, and everything seems pretty fast paced.

Some of the subject matter was pretty ****ing brutal, so it may not be for everyone.

I'm not easily bothered by things on TV but

Spoiler!

Yea, that episode got me too. Probably my favorite episode of the series so far. But eh entire show is just so well done. Only unreal thing might be the amount of life or death situations that have happened in the 10 hours so far in the shift. But thankfully they show a lot of routine/urgent care as well.

Dr Robby has had a day hasn’t he? And the shift isn’t over for 2 more hours.

Deberg_1990 03-15-2025 08:55 PM

This weeks episode was intense!

Can’t believe how much birthing and crowning they showed of that baby.

kysirsoze 03-16-2025 08:31 AM

I've heard this is probably the most accurate medical show there has been and my wife (a nurse) agrees. Still some things you can't get around like over-explaining for exposition purposes and simplifying some procedures to make them filmable, but apparently it's a really good look at how hospitals function. Also really good in that prime time soap kinda way. And Noah Wylie is fantastic.

'Hamas' Jenkins 03-16-2025 09:51 AM

Definitely the most accurate show I've seen, but med students and interns generally know nothing about proper antibiotic choice, and are using the EMR's recs to guide dosing. Would have been nice to show an ED pharmacist, which they would have at least one of in a center of that size.

cabletech94 03-16-2025 11:17 AM

So far the ultrasound/ x ray have been pretty good, although Morrisons pouch image has looked the same on every patient and image is static even when patient is breathing but probe choice/location is not horrible and somewhat correlates to the image on the screen at least the don’t have that dumb whooshing sound on 2d imaging some shows use and x rays are not upside down or backwards.

Deberg_1990 03-16-2025 01:08 PM

So I’m guessing David the lost emo kid is the shooter at Pit Fest? At least, that’s what they want you to think for now.

I spent 10 years as a Respiratory Therapist. 5 years at Truman downtown. I had people die on me almost every day. On the flip side you get to save a fellow human's life almost on a daily basis.

All the ones I worked at were like the show ER. It's a very stressful enviornment, It wears on you. I'm surprised I made it 10 years.

I'm sure there were days no one died on me but I don't remember a single day.

One of the first things you must have down pat when you are on the code blue team was when you leave the room where you are dealing with a life threatening situation, make your face neutral. Practice it a mirror. Don't give away shit, the Doctor needs to give the bad news.

I had a student walk into my room on a few seconds after I started scanning a routine OB ultrasound and there was multiple abnormalities APKD , Dandy walker , anhydramnios and probably more shit I couldn’t see due to lack of fluid , as soon as she saw the screen she let out a loud gasp and back peddled herself up against the door , had a little talk about here working on her poker face.

Really hope they're not ham fisting "see something say something" with David, but it seems exactly where they're going.

I really hope it isn't as predictable as Robby lets David get away, thinks his list of girls isn't the end of the world, doesn't call police, and now Jake will end up a victim of David during the shooting, he dies, and Robinavitch will blame himself, ending the season with some dumb cliffhanger of him standing on the ledge of the roof of the hospital.

I mean if they do that, just go ahead and have Robby jump.

Same. The shooter thing with David just seems so obvious and cliched. I’d rather it be the angry dude who punched the head nurse at this point.

Wife and I said the same thing about the lack of pharmacist on the code/trauma cases. But outside of that, it’s the best medical show I’ve seen since ER.

Noah Wyle from ER kid doctor to grizzled veteran ER physician has been a great casting.

If you are working in a hospital. you have a moral commitment to do no harm. The poker face is a part of that.

The patients are already stressed out and you make them even more stressed because you cant control your emotions? Not acceptable at all.

I agree , she was an Older student who had gone into ultrasound from the business world , had not been exposed to much healthcare stuff , hell she had to pull over in her drive home because she was crying too much after her first cancer find .

It is harder in a small town though just found an ovarian CA on a friend last week , she is trying to do small talk while I have a probe in her vagina trying to figure out this mass , do you chat it knowing she has cancer like it’s a normal day do you go quiet , some patients talk just because they are anxious , so talking helps , just the transvag on my friends wife is awkward enough .

In an 8 hour shift they managed to hit on every single last one of the items on a list that can't be mentioned outside of DC.

They don't have to do that to make an awesome show, damnit. That's what is so disappointing. Hamas said it's realistic, I'll take his word for it. It's really good when it's on subject, but when it hammers an agenda that many times in such a short span I can't help but roll my eyes.

KC_Connection 04-05-2025 08:49 AM

It’s hamfisted to include a story on how some parents won’t vaccinate their kids for the ****ing measles of all things? LMAO

Dumb ****s like this exist all over the place and especially these days with the Internet/social media being so prevalent. I have some problems with where they’ve taken this season (I did not think taking it in the direction of a shooting was necessary, it was trucking along fine without it) but that is certainly not one of them.

I’ll also say that ER (which this show is clearly a spiritual sequel of) basically did the same thing 30 years ago btw. It’s more reminiscent of a lot of issue-oriented network TV from back then and yet another reason this feels like a throwback to a bygone era.

We are just way more sensitive to it now in a far more polarized environment.

Very true.

Just like my favorites, Star Trek TnG and DS9. They had what was considered edgy but subtle messages at times, but didn't beat us over the head like today.

Maybe people don't process nuance like we once did due to the world changing. I don't know.

Agreed. While some Trek certainly did bash over the head on issues, generally the best episodes of those shows did it much more subtly.

There is a reason the Soviets dropped the 7.62 for the 5.45. They got feedback from Vietnam. The 5.56 was doing horrifying damage to unarmored flesh.

I think the problem here is, seemingly, all of the issues of the day are landing in the ED on the same day. I mean, I'm aligned with the obvious viewpoints of the show, but it's still straining suspension of disbelief to have so many hot button topics be front in center so close together. Not a deal breaker, but they could pick and choose a little more. Or even not insist on building in soap box monologues. Again, I agree with most everything said, but it just takes me out of the world of the show. Save some stuff for season two!

In fairness, the show sort of made mention that this particular day was abnormal/out of the ordinary there at the end. So it’s somewhat plausible that each particular seasons day is just one bad day out of 365 days. Season 2 has already announced it will be set on the 4th of July, so get ready for some new big horrible event.

So obviously involves a time jump of some sort? Because I think this season was set in the Fall?

Not sure how well a medical show with fair if no patients showed up or just a bunch of colds and UTI , prescription renewals maybe a few back to work form and some physicals.

What are you talking about? Did you mean to quote my post?

If I’m Translating his reply correctly, hes saying it would be a boring show if it was just patients being seen for “bunch of colds and UTI , prescription renewals maybe a few back to work form and some physicals”

But that’s more urgent care, not ER stuff.

we all know that most cases in an ER and low grade stuff because many do not have a doctor or health care. So they dont do urgent care. They go into the ER.

Then have to wait for the big cases.

Spoiler!

It can be assumed that alot of the more routine and urgent care was going on the in background or off to the side. The show just chose not to show it. But they did a decent job of showing stuff that wasn’t always life or death cases.

Yeah, but that's not what I was talking about. I was saying rather than packing every cultural issue of the day into one season and doing a scattershot job of it, maybe focus on fewer topics and make it less ham-fisted. I was in no way advocating for cold and UTIs.

That was some great acting by Noah Wyle. He has come a long way since his rookie ER acting days.

I also like how they made the most awkward newb doctor look very normal when walking with her special needs sister.

It was pretty good for the most part. It's borderline too much to ask these days to not have any form if entertainment/escapism bash you over the head with some sort of message or agenda, whether you agree with it or not.

You shouldn't have to eyeroll and cross your arms waiting for the message scene to end so you can get back to your show, movie, videogame, etc.

I can't even for ONE HOUR, sometimes less, engage in some sort of entertainment without the developer letting me know where they stand or what they think.

I don't give a ****.

I just wanna ****ing watch TV God Dammit.

I watched the ER pilot a few months back after The Pitt started.

He was very young and still raw then. He’s come a looooong way obviously.

But he was perfectly cast in ER. I’d say the Whitaker character in The Pitt has some similarities to Carter.
