Just saw in the thread that the game's on. I've got it on now.

I really don't like games like this. These two teams have no business playing each other. It's the antithesis of sportsmanship. But college football is what it is.

Please don't say again that Brady Cook has worked on the deep ball all offseason.

As the DT destroyed the middle I just said “oh god, don’t kill him…”

It was hilariously inevitable pretty much immediately.

JohnnyHammersticks 08-29-2024 09:00 PM

Missed a couple deep balls but overall solid. RBs, O-line, WR depth, and speed on defense look nice. Cook didn’t really heat up until game 3 or 4 last season and you could tell he was just a little too hyped tonight. Over threw a few. He’ll be fine I’m sure. Gonna be a fun season.

Mizzou_8541 08-29-2024 09:03 PM

Both lines looked dominant against inferior competition. Not worried about replacing Cody Schrader’s production. Brady Cook a very good quarterback but extremely limited. He’s the Alex Smith of college football.

ChiefsCountry 08-29-2024 09:03 PM

A field goal here would be very important to some.....

ChiefsCountry 08-29-2024 09:07 PM

As of right now, Mizzou is a great team

Pepe Silvia 08-29-2024 09:09 PM

Mizzou will lose 4 games this year maybe more.

Mizzou_8541 08-29-2024 09:12 PM

What’s the word on the Norfleet injury?

JohnnyHammersticks 08-29-2024 09:13 PM

I almost took the under. I’m so glad I put down my phone, that would’ve been excruciating

As I was driving home from the game, the radio said he came out of the tunnel, shook his head when asked how he was, and was despondent.

Makes me worry it's his collarbone or a separated shoulder.

Did Corey Flagg really have 5 sacks tonight? ESPN is crediting him with 5.

No.

I mean he was flying around; maybe 5 total TFLs if you include sacks in that count, but I don't think he had 5 sacks. Hell, I'm not sure I remember 1.

The team speed on the unit looked really impressive. Again, hard to tell against an overmatched squad, but even those small schools usually have impressive athletes and just don't have the bulk. Anytime they tried to get out wide, guys were flying to the football.

Then on that last drive as they started the bubble screen I just said "Oh man, you're gonna get someone wrecked..."

Sure enough, that DB came flying out of the secondary and blew that thing apart.

You could just tell the defense was bringing heat all night.

Best news of the day.

Honestly, I'm excited that the defense never let them get a rhythm going. I mean, I know it's Murray State, but seemingly good focus out there overall.

I'm used to so many Mizzou games through history where they shit the bed when they got someone dead to rights, it's nice to get what we should expect, a good ol' fashioned beatdown of a lesser opponent.

Also... really liking Carroll a lot from what I saw yesterday.

DJ's left nut 08-30-2024 09:59 AM

The RBs looked awfully good.

The LB transfers (and the DT) looked damn good.

Easy opponent but it looked like all the new additions hit the ground running. This team is likely to be as good or better than last years. And it has a softer schedule.

Now that said, football's a weird game and Mizzou got some breaks last season that they may not get this time. So if they wanted to be a playoff team, it's likely that they NEEDED to be better than last season.

So far, so good.

Woogieman 08-30-2024 10:14 AM

That defense looked REALLY fast and athletic. I know it's poor competition, but "fast and aggressive" will be a glaring advantage in all but a few games. Going to be fun!

|Zach| 08-30-2024 11:45 AM

Sharing all the caveats about the competition we faced.

We looked so fast on that field in damn near every position. Really excited to watch these RBs do work and make it even harder to defend our WRs.

Pitt Gorilla 08-30-2024 01:01 PM

Thought we looked big and fast across the board. Hope Norfleet is ok.

It looked like Murray St didn't even belong on the same field. Which is expected, but I sure can remember plenty of MU teams letting cupcakes hang around with them for 3-4 quarters. I mean last year we only beat Middle Tennessee St by 4.

Not able to see the game locally so I have a question....

Not seeing Luther Burden being featured in the stats line...are they just not going to hom much right now or is there something going on with his health?

I see Wease has 149 yards in receptions but not much from Burden.

Mosbonian 09-07-2024 07:51 PM

Also....it seems like every time Mizzou seems to have a big play they get called for a penalty.

Defense has been excellent so far. They got away with some questionable hand fighting that likely would have been penalties in conference, but their tackling and gap discipline looks great.

The offense concerns me so far. They haven't used the middle of the field much at all in the passing game, and Cook still looks off. His legs cover up a lot of weaknesses, but he needs to pass like he did in the early conference slate last year. South Carolina looks like a much tougher game now.

I think the offense and Brady Cook start looking better next week against better competition. They haven't really needed to do much, but BC looks pretty decent, especially that run game. They have 5 guys averaging 50+ rush yards a game and another averaging 40. That's pretty impressive even though they've played 2 games.

The offense will look damn good come Saturday. Bank on it.

kepp2 09-08-2024 08:07 AM

So where do we think Mizzou lands in the polls tomorrow? Notre Dame will be out of the top 10, and we should jump Penn State for that performance they had. 7?

Oh no question.

If they lose 1 and it's to Alabama or Oklahoma, they're fine. They might be able to lose 2 if they beat Bama or OK.

If they beat Bama and OK but trip up against two lesser opponents, it'll be interested to see how that works out.

But they very obviously control their own destiny. Let's say they lose to a (suddenly) ranked BC team this weekend but then end up splitting the OU/AL games and win the rest, that's PROBABLY enough to get into the post-season.

But they've gotta take care of business. This isn't a year you can have a "Because, Mizzou" sort of outlook. Everything this program has ever wanted is there for the taking. They have the talent and they have a schedule that should allow them to get through the season fairly healthy.

Just gotta get the job done.
