Bob Newhart-gone.. ugh

Bob Newhart has passed away at age 94. His wit and deadpan delivery and stammering style made him a must-watch for generations. One of the best

Pasta Little Brioni 07-18-2024 02:06 PM

94...whoa

PunkinDrublic 07-18-2024 02:08 PM

Life well lived. One of the best RIP.

Bwana 07-18-2024 02:09 PM

Well damn. He was one funny dude. RIP

ThrobProng 07-18-2024 02:09 PM

What an icon. I hadn't seen him in anything since "Elf".

Rain Man 07-18-2024 02:09 PM

That's a big loss for humanity. I really enjoyed his humor.

I was about to comment that he seemed old when I first saw The Bob Newhart Show as a kid. But the numbers work out. He would have been in his forties when I was a 12 year-old kid, and when I was 12 a guy in his forties was old.

displacedinMN 07-18-2024 02:10 PM

I did see him a few years ago.

Some of the material was dated, but damn he was funny

Graystoke 07-18-2024 02:11 PM

Love that dude.
When I was a kid I had a thing for his actress wife in the Bob Newhart Show-Suzanne Pleshette. Man I thought she was foxy.

RIP Bob

ChiTown 07-18-2024 02:12 PM

I'd say 94 is a pretty fkg good run. RIP, comedy legend.

I kind of preferred his new wife at the inn. She could really make a sweater sing. But to each his own and they were both attractive.

IowaHawkeyeChief 07-18-2024 02:17 PM

94... What a life! RIP and Godspeed Bob!

Dartgod 07-18-2024 02:38 PM

Son of a bitch. A very funny, funny man.

RIP

By the way, the final episode of Newhart was the best final episode of any series ever.

Someone play taps for MAJ. Major M. Major, please.

Radar Chief 07-18-2024 02:41 PM

Damn, this has been a rough week for celebrities.

RealSNR 07-18-2024 02:42 PM

Dick Van Dyke is still cookin'

kysirsoze 07-18-2024 02:44 PM

This one hurts despite his advanced age. What a legend. And still so sharp and funny so late in life.

Frazod 07-18-2024 02:44 PM

Damn. He had a good run, though. RIP and thanks for the many laughs.

Rain Man 07-18-2024 02:44 PM

Wow. Suzanne Phleshette died 16 years ago and Mary Frann died 26 years ago.

PunkinDrublic 07-18-2024 02:50 PM

Love the SNL sketch where Farley and Chris Elliot get drunk playing hi Bob in front of Newhart.

srvy 07-18-2024 02:58 PM

One of my favorites RIP Bob!!

headsnap 07-18-2024 02:59 PM

If you can find his Sir Walter Raleigh bit, it is hilarious.

SHOWTIME 07-18-2024 03:14 PM

Professor Proton on the Big Bang Theory...

Garcia Bronco 07-18-2024 03:14 PM

I loved the Vermont show and how at the end they called back to the first show.

I suspect it's from all of those spoonfulls of "sugar" :D

frozenchief 07-18-2024 03:19 PM

The ending to the show 'Newhart' has to be the best Sitcom ending in American TV history. From standup to shows, Newhart was a class act.

I would say that this would be extremely effective in a lot of therapy situations:

RIP to one of the greats.

Zebedee DuBois 07-18-2024 03:23 PM

His timing was superb. He could fill out a 'pregnant pause' with glances and mis-starts, building tension while the audience starts mentally filling in the reply, so when he actually gives the reply the audience gets an endorphin release.

Chieficus 07-18-2024 03:25 PM

Did somebody check to make sure he wasn't buried alive in a box?

ptlyon 07-18-2024 03:26 PM

Guess we will start seeing reruns soon. I'll be sure to time in

EPodolak 07-18-2024 03:30 PM

RIP Bob.

stumppy 07-18-2024 03:36 PM

RedRaider56 07-18-2024 04:39 PM

RIP Bob You were one of the best comedians of all time...

kc rush 07-18-2024 04:45 PM

One of my favorites. Loved his stand-up and his shows.

Him and Don Rickles together were hilarious.

alanm 07-18-2024 06:00 PM

RIP Bob you were great. Man, everyone is keeling over this year. :(

HonestChieffan 07-18-2024 06:45 PM

Sad, he and Mary Frann were awesome and Darrel and Darrel epic. RIP funny man

FlaChief58 07-18-2024 06:48 PM

Tough week to be a celeb. RIP

ROYC75 07-18-2024 06:50 PM

Damn, loved Bob Newhart!

4th and Long 07-18-2024 08:40 PM

RIP to a comedy icon. Bob was also responsible for many a hangover from playing the "Hi Bob" game as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi,_Bob

ChiefsFan88 07-18-2024 10:17 PM

I used to watch the Newhart show with my father, I did not get his jokes until I got older, I do not care much for Newhart but he was a great actor and person, rest in peace Mr. Newhart

GabyKeepsMeWarm 07-18-2024 11:32 PM

94…. What a run. Thank you Bob for all the laughs throughout the years. It’s already been stated here and elsewhere what a tremendous wit and gift for timing this guy had in the comedy game.

Dude was best buds with Don Rickles, and while the two couldn’t have been more different in style, the two performed together for years back in the day, and their stuff is incredible. To be a fly on the wall with those two…

And has been said here already, the final episode, or more precisely, the final sequence from his 80’s/90’s sitcom Newhart is positively the gold standard on how to pull off a series finale. It won’t be topped.

Absolute legend. RIP.

Now I'm curious. I don't remember that...

You have to understand both shows to get this

He was magnificent in The Rescuers movies.

RedinTexas 07-19-2024 04:19 PM

I hope Suzanne Pleshette greeted him into the afterlife with "Hi Bob!"

In a way it's one of the first really public Easter eggs.

It was his wife's idea that he should sleep with Suzanne and Suzanne supported the idea

ptlyon 07-22-2024 06:01 PM

Special in his life on CBS now

Megatron96 07-22-2024 06:12 PM
