Chiefs announce news conference on planned Arrowhead renovations
https://fox4kc.com/sports/chiefs/chi...mo-link-block1
Maybe worth checking out Wednesday morning. If your not local I'd assume Chiefs.com will have it on the website. This will have major implications for the April vote on extending the sales tax that will help fund Renovations at One Arrowhead Drive and even more to get Shyster Sherman his downtown ballpark. |

I am kinda excited to see what the Hunts have planned and what if anything they plan to do with old Royals Stadium if the tax extension passes. I know a lot here want that rolling roof but I feel that ship sailed. We will see!
|
My guess is that they are going to scab an atrium space onto arrowhead similar to what lambeau did.

That whole Truman Sports Complex used solely for the Chiefs seems like a primo idea.
Would be good yo spread everyone out a little and have some better tailgate areas. |

KC Star article about "Arrowhead" being offensive to Native Americans in 5...4...3...

Here's the press conference going on right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzc-LaggMrk

I suspect the Royals ****ed up with the Crossroads business owners. And this is just mop up duty
|
So it's basically the same with a big ass screen and a nice seating area for people who probably don't even care much about football?
|
Neat.
|
Looks like no big deal...? Building some stuff outside the stadium and some additional luxury appointments inside it?
|
So they're leaving Arrowhead alone more or less, except fixing the screen and building an outdoor fan zone where Kaufman is and improving the parking and flow of traffic. Great

Based on the most recent NFLPA survey results which are pretty similar to what we heard last year it sounds like Clark Hunt needs to quit being a cheap ass and invest more in better facilities, hopefully there’s something in here for that
|
The more things change, the more they start the same.

Where is CO-Owner Taylor Swift suite?
|
Mark Donovan saying the area is not worthy of expansion for shopping and entertainment made me laugh a bit. True, but funny to hear. Guess the Hunt family is putting up $300M and cost overruns but $500M goes to the tax payers.
|
"Looks like no big deal" is probably not what you want to hear from fans for this pricetag.

Talking about a three hour game, not a three day weekend.
Stop pretending you need catered to in an area you wouldn't be in if not for game day. JMO |
40 years in taxes for that?
|
Won't lie, kind of underwhelmed. That area in the endzone is kinda cool but I'm sure it's going to cost a crazy amount of money and have a shitty viewing angle when the plays are happening on the other side of the field. Other than that, looks like just standard keeping up with the times upgrades.
|
Kind of a letdown but OK.
|
I'm not a fan of the endzone screens, they should be bigger, I get that they want it to be the football shapes but if we're renovating and putting money into it lets update it to modern standards. The side activation zone, seems like just a concert venue which I'm not sure why they need that. Watch parties? Concerts at Arrowhead, which they already have inside the stadium for big enough artists. That's what we're tearing down Kaufmann for? I like the upper concourse changes. Had to know that they'd create a more prestigious sideline club to rake in more money from the heavy hitters. Would've also liked that open roof that at least covered the 300 seats from above.
|
They needed to add a rolling roof IMHO.
|
Why are the taxpayers on the hook for $500 million? Didn't the Royals offer up $1 Billion for their new stadium? Seems underwhelming and a lot of money to spend and not much return for the regular fans and who will pay the tax bill. No SB on KC either.
|
I like the pedestrian crossings and the ride share zone. Much needed (even if I don't use them, I know people who do). Better cell reception is always good. As an upper level STM, I like the wrap around. Not a fan of all of the clubs, but I'm not the type who would waste money on them anyway. Let them appease the rich fans...lol. Wondering how the parking will ultimately be affected. We've been tailgating in the same spot for 25 years.
|
It's time for a new stadium.
|
That is going to cost $800m? I'll get it done for a few thousand if you give me some Walmart vouchers and a handyman from Craigslist.
|
It's kind of interesting that they didn't say "GEHA Field" during the presentation like they usually do during official press conferences. They're trying to sell this thing.

Does "getting hotter cheerleaders" count as a renovation?

$50 million per bullet point, I guess.
- New turf-covered Activation Zone with tailgate areas and covered entertainment space built over where The K was - New Upper Concourse Connection Bridge creating 360 access and more concessions for the upper deck - An Upper Concourse Canopy providing weather protection, including infrared heaters and overhead fans for the upper deck - New VIP Stadium Entry Points will make it easier for all fans' traffic - New Sideline Clubs at the lower level - New Video Boards, likely to get in the ballpark of Dallas, LA and Las Vegas... keeping the oval shape - Upgraded TVs and Wi-Fi throughout the stadium - New End Zone Clubs and Suites (think that ground-floor party area in Las Vegas) - New Concession Stands, Retail Spaces and Restrooms - A New Field Access Tunnel will provide a new field access point for visiting teams - Traditional Concession Stands will be converted to modern Grab-n-Go Markets throughout general concourses, resulting in an anticipated increase in speed of service by 30-40% - Three new Pedestrian Bridges will eliminate interruptions to vehicular traffic flow - Better Rideshare experiences - New Parking Deck on South side of the stadium and Expanded Parking on North side of the stadium at the current site of The K increases the total number of paved parking spots - Lot O RV Parking Lot will be expanded, paved and permanently lit, with permanent restroom facilities added |
You can't seriously tell me this is what $800m gets you today. A walkway over a road, a bit of turf out in the carpark with a cheap looking stage, some tables and chairs from IKEA in the end zone and a big LCD screen. That's $800m?? LMAO

So it's mostly just stuff outside the stadium plus some field level suites? Or was there more not shown in the photos?

Girls move their lives to different states ALL the time to cheer for teams. Why aren't you recruiting better? You have many beautiful young women in Missouri but even if you didnt, something is stopping girls from chasing the Arrowhead dream. I'm betting it's their locker room. |
Anyone know what % of the new Royals stadium the owner there is paying for?
Clark is offering to pay for 37.5% of this. Wonder if those percentages align. |
Omg.
Do you ever see the Hunt girls with the cheerleaders? I think we know why your talent pool. |
So less stadium capacity?
|
Mark Donovan: This project is also about growing Kansas City. We are proud to announce that the Taco Bell across the street on Blue Ridge Cutoff will become a Taco Bell Cantina.

The screens, field access tunnel, and pedestrian bridge are where the bulk of the cost seems to be if I had to guess. |
I've figured out where all the money is going. $750m is being spent on a solid gold statue of Mahomes outside Arrowhead lifting up his 10th Lombardi trophy.
|
Yeah, that's a bit of a letdown. Not much actual benefit for the common fan. 95% of it is simply new ways for them to make money.
It's also funny how they try to allude that Arrowhead is out in the middle of some Midwest wheat field... https://i.imgur.com/UQ6IT7t.png |

While I think the vote will pass anyway, this did nothing to help it. Fans don't want to pay more just for the ability to park further away and walk on a bridge to the stadium. Should have just added a roof and left it at that. Could have had a gravel parking lot and people would have been ok if it meant they didn't have to freeze once they got inside the stadium. |

By the time it's finished, GEHAs contract will be expiring or will have expired depending on if they finish 2030 or 31. |
This is great! I am way too lazy to tailgate. Now I can have an entertainment district and something to do before and after the game once they get rid of that baseball team

Good. Maybe they can get a sponsor that has a less GHEA sounding name |

I wonder if any of the planned renovations include changes to the Hunt suite?
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">BET YOU DIDNT KNOW: <br><br>Clark Hunt doesn’t have a regular suite at arrowhead. <br><br>He built a 3 story, 6 bedroom house. <a href="https://t.co/rYNHwquzDU">pic.twitter.com/rYNHwquzDU</a></p>— fatty patty (@theonlydyl_) <a href="https://twitter.com/theonlydyl_/status/1762839979594506600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 28, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

They should open a store that sells tail gating supplies. Cheap grills, charcoal and ice.

So the plan is to start after the World Cup around 2030?
If that's the case $800M won't sound as much in 6 years as it does now. |
Glad I don't have to pay for this shit.

Voting No

I see this is going over well. |
Has anyone asked the most important question? When tf will we have time to renovate a stadium when our team plays at home late into January every year? Maybe KU will let us borrow their stadium as a return favor.
