Mike Evans hyperextended his knee in 2021. Lucked out and played the next week.

David Montgomery did the same. Was out for 4-5 weeks.

Really depends on the severity.

KCJake 09-05-2023 12:11 PM

Good gosh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!

That’s a more important loss than Chris Jones.

He gets through all of training camp/preseason unscathed and the very last practice before the regular season... if "Because the Chiefs" still existed it would apply here.

I've seen our franchise win 2 superbowls and play in 3. I never thought I would see them go to 1.

Whatever happens I'm good

ToxSocks 09-05-2023 12:15 PM

Whatever. Our early schedule isn't that bad. The tough teams like Buffalo, Cinci and Phili we play later in the year.

As SR says WBF

Nothing to complain about. They had a lot of injury problems in the playoffs last year, including Kelce’s back spasms. Somehow won a Super Bowl despite the injuries. They can afford to have a season where stuff doesn’t go the right way, since they just won a ring.

O.city 09-05-2023 12:17 PM

Mahomes is all that matters, no worries.

Mecca 09-05-2023 12:19 PM

Well it'll be interesting when we handoff 40 times.

ThaVirus 09-05-2023 12:19 PM

This is really unfortunate.

Kelce is so great, insanely fun to watch and the Lions have issues with covering TEs.

I was really looking forward to him going off on Thursday.

DJ's left nut 09-05-2023 12:20 PM

Well damn.

Jones -- Bitch
Omenihu -- Thug
Kelce, Sneed, Toney - Broken.

That's 5 of our 10 most important players that are out/limited in week 1.

Yeesh. This is starting to suck biggly.

dlphg9 09-05-2023 12:20 PM

I bet he plays, but if he doesn't I bet Gray steps up nicely into that starter role and the WRs ball out. We do have the best QB in the history of forever.

I dunno even know if Gray would see most of the snaps a 6'3 TE is largely a role player at the NFL level.

TheGreatCassholio 09-05-2023 12:22 PM

Mahomes gonna have 7 TD passes to 7 different WR's

KSCHIEF 09-05-2023 12:22 PM

Two days before kickoff... you have to think 87 doesn't play. As much as I want to celebrate banner night with an ass kicking of the Lions, keeping 87 healthy is infinitely more important. It's an NFC team too so a loss wouldn't even be an issue for tiebreaker purposes.

If the knee swells at all you hold him out and give him 12 days off of it with rehab

And it will just add to the legacy when PMII throws for 350/4 in the home opener without 87 ;)

Skyy God 09-05-2023 12:22 PM

Gonna try to view it from a different angle. At some point this team will need to be able to perform without Kelce. He’s creeping into retirement age. So if he misses some games this year, hopefully it’s a learning & growing opportunity for the team.

Hammock Parties 09-05-2023 12:25 PM

At least this is happening during the easy portion of the schedule.

They're gonna need him for the Jets.

Good point.

The 'mini-bye' likely breaks all ties here. You get a loooooot of rest between now and week 2, provided you don't do anything to make it worse.

Probably smarter to sit him, as much as that would suck. I suspect we hear 'gametime decision' either way to make the Lions prepare for the possibility that he plays.

(By the way - THIS is the worry about Kelce as he ages. Not that he's suddenly bad when he's available, but that he won't be available as often)

They're all different and I wasn't the size of Kelce but I hyperextended my knee before and it was just a really weird feeling walking on it. I didn't tear anything it's more like I stretched everything out.

Probably shift to McKinnon. Not that Gray won't get a few extra targets. But he isn't going to really replace much of what Kelce does for the offense. Andy will have to spread the ball around, and McKinnon is the obvious next option, based on past production.

ljmhawk 09-05-2023 12:31 PM

going to be real fun when Toney gets hurt in the first quarter…mahomes might have to throw to himself.
