Titans cringe Oiler throwback uniforms

This city had the Oilers for like 3 years before switching to the Titans. This is so incredibly cringe. Everybody knows that's Houston's team and uniforms since the 60's.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Thoughts on the <a href="https://twitter.com/Titans?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@Titans</a> throwback jerseys? 👀 <a href="https://t.co/f43kzLUKyj">pic.twitter.com/f43kzLUKyj</a></p>&mdash; Sports Illustrated (@SInow) <a href="https://twitter.com/SInow/status/1683289306272608257?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 24, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Sidenote: really wish the Texans would burn their uniforms and name and go back to the Oilers. It was one of the awesome teams of yesteryear and their uniforms/logo were legit

New World Order 07-23-2023 07:50 PM

The helmets are cool. Not so sure about the jersey shirt

HemiEd 07-23-2023 07:51 PM

I kinda like it. Now where is Warren Moon?

In58men 07-23-2023 07:58 PM

Legit

I agree. The Oilers added a unique color to the NFL landscape. The Texans are just basic crayon colors.

I don't mind the Titans using the Oilers jerseys since they really are the Oilers.

Hammock Parties 07-23-2023 08:00 PM

classic look

love them!

Chieftain 07-23-2023 08:06 PM

Very nice. The color tones of the helmet don't blend very well with the uniform but as a whole they look fantastic.

Texans should offer the Titans a 1st round pick to get those uniforms back in Houston.

I think they look better than both of those teams’ current uniforms.

I think Tennessee owns the Oilers logo/name

And Houston had to get permission to use the Texans from the Hunt family.

Eleazar 07-23-2023 08:30 PM

Houston Oilers… Houston Oilers… Houston Oilers, #1

alpha_omega 07-23-2023 08:32 PM

Ya, I like it too.
In fact, change the derrick to a T and keep it full time.

staylor26 07-23-2023 08:40 PM

They're pretty dope

Bump 07-23-2023 08:41 PM

How awkward is that going to be for hardcore Oiler fans that are older now? They have to hate them for moving out of their city in the first place. Or maybe it will trigger some nostalgia for them.

Remember watching Earl's diesel like tree trunk piston legs grind defenses into literal powder. Good times for sure.:thumb:

Hammock Parties 07-23-2023 09:13 PM

The main reason it's fun to see these uniforms is two things for me.

1. The Oilers blowing the biggest lead in NFL playoff history.

2. Montana.

That's all I think about when I see those uniforms and it's just good clean fun.

Plus Warren Moon was awesome.

Texans suck and will always suck. Always feel like expansion frauds.

FloridaMan88 07-23-2023 09:15 PM

They should have kept the Oilers name/brand in Houston similar to what the Browns in Cleveland.

Simply Red 07-23-2023 09:18 PM

I think they're ****ing pieces of shit, naw they're okay, I do like the helmet as far as helmets go.

DJay23 07-23-2023 09:19 PM

They look good. I hated those uniforms when I was younger. Seemed like the Oilers almost always had our number (in the regular season).

Spott 07-23-2023 09:23 PM

The uniforms look cool, but I think it would be better if Houston wore them.

frozenchief 07-23-2023 09:28 PM

Will they play the Houston Oilers Theme song?

Name, uniforms and logo are awesome. One of the best in NFL history.

Tennessee using it as a throwback? Cringe.

Frazod 07-23-2023 09:44 PM

It's certainly an improvement over the Titans uniforms, which are pretty much the worst in the league.

carcosa 07-23-2023 09:48 PM

Mile High Mania 07-23-2023 10:17 PM

Well, that's what happens when the franchise moves yeah?

big nasty kcnut 07-23-2023 10:19 PM

**** the oilers!

Jamie 07-23-2023 10:39 PM

The Oilers jerseys are better, but it's still lame. Because really, who is it for? It's a **** you to the Houston fans they abandoned, and Tennessee fans are Titans fans. It's like when we wore the Dallas Texans throwbacks.

ThyKingdomCome15 07-23-2023 10:45 PM

Nice

MMXcalibur 07-23-2023 11:34 PM

Approx 2 people showed up for Houston's "Goodbye Oilers" parade back in the day.

When Houston got the expansion team they should
have worked out a deal with the titans to buy the rights to the oilers name

I guess it's no different than the Chiefs wearing the Dallas Texans uni a few years back. Great for nostalgia, but otherwise pointless

The fact that Tennessee is wearing those jerseys. Bud Adams owned the Oilers and got in a dispute with the city of Houston bc he didn't recover well from the oil crisis of the 80's. Tennessee said they'd give him a new stadium he wanted so he moved the team.

They were the Tennessee Oilers for 5 mins before becoming the Titans.

It's pretty cringe to see Tennessee have the rights to the Oilers or wearing the uniforms of Houston's team. It would be like if the OKC Thunder wore Supersonic throwbacks.

What a low point for the Chiefs franchise. Matt Cassel, Todd Failey, and the state of Texas on the side of their helmets

Not sure, but they have a one-eyed sloth for a HC.

kysirsoze 07-24-2023 07:47 AM

I mean they were literally the Tennessee Oilers. What's the problem? They aren't just taking the name and uniform from where they were last and pretending it's their throwback. ESPECIALLY if it's very specific to that area, or I don't know... state! What kind of dumbass franchise would do something like that?!?

Is it cringe when the Chiefs wear helmets with the state of Texas on them?

These uniforms are sick and I'm glad to see them again

Not really.

It is the same franchise. They are displaying their history.

I do wish the NFL could have worked out a deal where the Titans were treated as an expansion franchise and the Oilers colors stayed in Houston but they didn't.

Texans is not nearly as good.

How's that any different than the Chiefs wearing Dallas Texans helmets?

Or the Browns wearing anything that resembles the first iteration of the team before they moved to Baltimore?

It is not. The Dallas Texans are the Chiefs. Different cities but same franchise. That is what matters: not the name, but the franchise.

One note: the Ravens are considered a separate franchise by the NFL. The Browns were considered inactive and then resumed operations. So the Browns didn't move to Baltimore. The franchise simply went inactive for several seasons.

tredadda 07-24-2023 09:26 AM

Big fan of those old school uniforms. Reminds me of the Warren Moon days. plus they look better than the Titans uniforms.

Hence why I brought up the Browns as they are considered the same team as the current iteration and the Ravens are viewed as an expansion team.

Technically not different, but everybody thinks of Houston when they see those jerseys because the Oilers played in Houston for 37 years and 2 in Tennessee(Memphis) before the became the Titans. The Texans played in Dallas for 3 seasons and left after the Cowboys arrived and have played in KC for the last 60 years.

ghak99 07-24-2023 10:24 AM

Was always a big fan the uniforms, but I can't look at them without my brain saying Houston Oilers.

Even then the Titans still wore the Oilers jersey when they initially moved to TN.

The Avalanches wore Nordiques throwbacks the past year or 2 in the NHL even though they were never the Nordiques in Denver.

The only sports franchise I know that still owns the prior iteration of their team's history after relocation and were brought into the league as another team, aside from the Browns, are the Charlotte Hornets (their history before relocating to New Orleans is still theirs, and the Pelicans are retroactively considered an expansion team).

Thunder still technically have the Sonics history but don't recognize it. Winnipeg Jets have the Thrasher's history, but don't recognize it, and the Coyotes have the first version of the Jets history.
