RIP Skip Towne
To our best knowledge (basically, Bwana), Skip Towne passed away on March 24, 2023. I didn't exactly have the most positive run-ins with him, but everyone who was anyone on here in the beginning deserves a thread in the In Memoriam forum.
I say we share our best (or worst) encounters with Skip, and then, only once this thread reached 100 posts, move it. :) |
RIP

He was mostly before my time, but RIP buddy

Rest in Peace, Noob!
|
He is one of my favorite people even when he was being grouchy lol (which was all the time it seemed).
He hasn't posted in forever and don't know why he stopped. RIP Skip. |
I got along just fine with Skip (Maybe it's the fact that I'm an old geezer myself). It's sad to hear of his passing and (for me) the fact that he wasn't here giving people hell at the end. Rest in peace Skip. :skip::skip::skip:

One of the more colorful posters we have had around here. He has been missed.
RIP |
RIP
It's gonna be weird 100 years from now, when none of the current CP members are alive and it's just a bunch of future noobs going on and on about Pat Mahomes V winning a 60th Super Bowl for the Chiefs. |
Hammers home just how long this community has been around.
Good lord. It's worth a documentary in and of itself. RIP Skip. You're with that other cranky kU bastard Don Fambrough now. Hope you two are shaking your fists and screaming at the clouds together. |
Always got along with Skip. Met him at a Tommy Kat get together way the hell back when.
20 some years later and now I'm a grouchy old ****. I get it Skip.....I get it. |
He definitely knew how to keep people in check, especially n00bs. He had his soft spots, but he definitely knew how to remind people that they were no one special (unless their threads reached at least 100 posts).
|
Skip, the n00b whisperer. :D
I always got along fine with him, probably because I started before he did. He was kind enough to guide me through some Direct TV issues at one point, which I was grateful for. On a side note, I'm debating on posting his obit. Trying to figure out which direction to go there. RIP http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/custo...vatar537_3.gif |

RIP Skip. |
He was one crotchety old man. RIP Skip
|
RIP Skip, you have been missed around here for quite a while.
I will never forget the fun we had discussing the Jayhawks/Shockers, Wichita vs. Tulsa. I will just say we were not in total agreement. :D I am confident he passed as a happy man with the Chief's Super Bowls and Jayhawk's national championship. |
I thought you misspelled Bayless
|
Damn, that sucks. I know Skip was a crotchety old man but he could be fun. And he was a fellow Chiefs and Jayhawks fan.
I do remember that he worked for Directv as an installer, I believe. At the time, I had Dish and I remember he used to always refer to it as Dish Notwork. Derp! A few years later, I ended up going with Directv. Now that I have tried both and for multiple years I can honestly say that they are about the same. The only thing Dtv had over Dish was Sunday Ticket but I really didn't care about that. I ditched Dtv about 5 years ago and have been happy with streaming ever since. But I wish I could have had a conversation with him about how they really are both the same shitty company. Also, Skip was always the guy to greet new members with "shut up, n00b!" I mean, how can you not love that? ROFL |

Aww, that's sad. I liked Skip a lot. He had a crotchety schtick and he embraced it, but in truth he was a great guy.
|
I actually met Skip in person. He installed a DirectTV system for me. Nice guy with a crotchety online alter ego. At that time he was a heavy smoker and not a spring chicken, so I’m surprised he lasted this long. He was certainly a big part of this sites early years. RIP and enjoy being a NOOB in the afterlife!
|
He taught us to spray Crisco on our satellite dishes so that the snow doesn’t accumulate on it.
RIP noob. |

100 post? What the hell, "Shut Up n00b ". No way should we limit this when we can express our feelings to the many Skip moments on CP. |
i forget when it was, but i got a rep or a PM from him a few years ago
he was always lurking |
Skip: "I'm here for my tour of heaven"
God: "shut up noob" Rip |

I was always on the right side of the fence (KU fan) with Skip, so I never had issues with him. Think he called me a n00b a few times, but that was it. |
Ahh, Coffeyville CC. My son played his first two years of colege ball there. The bowling alley in Coffeyville has $1.25 draws and killer food.
|
I remember messing with the reputation system a few times, changing the colors on him to red, and his counts, etc. He so needed that affirmation that it was kind of weird. But hey, RIP Skip, hope you found what made you happy.

RIP Skip. He was a funny dude.

Never interacted with Skip. He stopped posting by the time I really started posting. Looking at his post history and found that he had 35 posts the day before his last posts here. Seems weird he just stopped all of the sudden. He wasn't fighting with anyone. It's weird.

Slightly before my time... RIP.
Seems like from scanning his posts , he was pretty prolific in posting. Seemed like a sudden drop off in posting if I am running my search correctly. Very active until 1-26-2010. Lots of posts about sports and other stuff...and then 1 day later ... poof. Anyone know why he stopped posting? I didn't see anything like fighting or butthurt in his last few posts. Anyhow.. RIP... chiefsplanet is my home and it wouldn't be what it us without the og's like Skip (edit: I see others asked an answered the same question. I typed this all out and was cooking. came back and hit enter and saw some other similar posts. guess we all wondering the same) |
****er is an afterlife n00b now. I hope someone slings some shit at him.
I never really got into it with him before I showed up in a KU thread where he said something like I have no idea who you are, probably a ****ing n00b but you can’t be that bad if you’re a KU fan. ROFL |
My time here only overlapped 1 year with Skip Towne.
I never remember anything negative and had little interaction with him. I never earned the privilege. Another CP Legend has moved to the great Arrowhead in the sky. RIP Skip Towne |
I was his favorite.
So that tells you all you need to know about him. |
