Diablo 4

So I played it this weekend, and was honestly really impressed. What they have effectively done is taken "Lost Ark" and put a Diablo skin on it and provided much better gear customization.

Graphics are great, work bosses fun.. Need to work on a few items, but for open beta is getting great reviews.

The Franchise 03-20-2023 09:57 AM

I've heard it looks great on the PS5.

ToxSocks 03-20-2023 10:22 AM

I played it a little bit, though KFC jew'd me out of a beta key. I made two separate orders with two different names and emails and they only sent one key. Bastards.

I'm still undecided. Nothing wrong with the game itself, it just might not be for me.

Did you play and enjoy D2 or D3?

I preordered it because I wanted to play open beta and I knew I'd play it regardless.

Only complaints
-Dungeons are not randomized
-Pacing during certain parts

But they really did just lift the BEST PARTs of LOST ARK to make Diablo 4... So I'm very interested. Also world boss was dope as ****.

I never finished or even made much progress on either.

I'm in the market for a new MMO PC game and was hoping this would fill that role, as i did surrender a lot of hours to Lost Ark. But idk....i think i just prefer true open world mmo's.

Probably going to be awhile til that itch gets scratched, at least properly.

The only MMO I can even think of off the top of my head that I expect to make it beyond the newlywed phase of it being "different and new therefor its good" is League of Legends MMO but that shit is probably 4+ years away.

Baby we are going to get that with Ashes of Creation.... We need something to fill the void

I'll play this eventually but it takes a while before these games are in great shape, even D2 wasn't incredible until the expansion came out. D1 was obviously great from the start but I bought that on release day in winter of 1996 lolz

Diablo 3 was dog shit, and so glad blizzard got rid of most of thoses pieces of shit.

Diablo 4 feels much more like Diablo 1/2 but with more modern mechanics. I'm excited to see end game.

I actually started with 3, having never played 1 or 2.....and I really enjoyed 3 without having any context of 1 or 2.

I did go back and play/finish 2, and enjoyed it as well.

I'll be in for 4, but I have a ton of games right now that are on my list to play, so it's tough, especially with RE4 remake coming this week.

Diablo 3 was horrible. There was nothing to it. Also, I've just moved on from above-view games like that. The newer Elder Scrolls and Witcher games ruined that for me.

Bump 03-20-2023 05:14 PM

kinda looking forward to it but I still expect it to be pretty meh after about a month. The first month when it's new it will feel good but will it have that longevity that I want in a game like this? we'll see. I'm not a fan of battle passes in paid for games with no way to earn the in game currency and I'm not paying $20 more to get it 3 or 4 days early either, just out of principle.

hometeam 03-20-2023 07:28 PM

I had lots of fun with the beta weekend. Couldnt put it down

Pants 03-21-2023 03:44 PM

I'm going from Last of Us to Jedi: Survivor to Diablo 4.

Can't wait.

Kinda the same for me but we also have POE and Last Epoch to keep us busy as well as a lot of other games that look great due out this year.

Very diabloish, but learned from Lost Ark for the bossfights, and the shared kind of open scaled world.

Shit worked great

Why not take a great model, the thing Lost Ark failed at was lore/endgame/itemization (Real Money transactions)

Diablo knocks two of those issues out the window off the bat. I does a good job imitating the Lost Ark combat feel. (Still believe lost ark does combat the best ever)

The End game is up for debate, but I’m excited in the direction Blizzard chose to take the franchise. I still dream of the day there is either a WoW 2.0 or a Diablo MMO.

BleedingRed 03-24-2023 12:13 PM

Ya Lost Arks itemization sucked, I don't like games that don't have item drops while you're playing. I also didn't like how everything at the endgame was raids, not a huge fan of not being able to solo stuff. I'm frustrated with Last Epochs endgame right now so I might give the beta a go this weekend. I'm sure I'll preorder and play it 4 days early on the mid tier version.

Imma be playing with the wife tonight. Gonna lock ourselves in the room. We're gonna cross platform that shit. Her on PC and me on PS4. Gonna lock up and toke out.

Bump 03-24-2023 08:12 PM

lol I downloaded the open beta earlier today, waited in a 30 min que and DC'd after 5 minutes and then had to wait in another 30 min que for another 5 minutes of playing.

Turned it off for several hours, come back, 40 minute que for what I'm going to assume will last 5 minutes of playtime.

edit: that 40 minute que resulted in zero minutes of playtime before an error.

lol this is just pathetic, deleted.

BryanBusby 03-25-2023 10:22 PM

Had no issues getting online to play. Game is certainly not finished though.

Feels better than D3 ever did but I'm gonna wait about 6 months or so to pick it up.

Necro is a very overpowered job.

Played a ton of D1. Was in a pretty high ranking guild and played/helped develop a lot of mods. It was tons of fun for a while.

Played a ton of D2. Probably spent the most hours playing that of any game ever, and I spent over 900 hours on Dragon Inquisition when it was all said and done. Brilliant game.

Played a bit of D3. The only way I could get into it was playing couch coop with my daughter. I don't know what it was but it just didn't draw me in at tall. I never did even make it to the end-game.

I played D1 the day it came out was blown away..woah

Played D2 about 10 years so ya the most....Hung out on *cough* Blizzhackers a lot did some fun kinda hacky things :D

Played D3 and stopped after a month, came back for the 1st expansion played a lot for a couple weeks at a time for each season and go back for a week or so some seasons but not much.

Playing Last Epoch which reminds me most of Diablo 2 of anything and will play D4 on release and probably like it more than 3 and not as much as 2. We shall see.

Kinda bummed, didn't really get to play this much. Had a crazy eventful weekend.

Had that SDSU Sweet 16 game on Friday.

Then on Saturday: Haircuts, prepped the backyard for concrete, went to the park and played some hoops, partied and watched the Plant vs Benavidez fight later that night.

Sunday: SDSU Elite 8 game, got nice and drunk with the homies for that. Attended a funeral...a cholo funeral so a brawl almost broke out of course because drunk vatos mourning = drama. Then i welcomed in a new baby niece who was born that day, then we watched Cocaine Bear.

Left pretty much no time at all for D4, and im kinda salty about it.

Meh it's a beta, just wait for full release it's not like you're not playing it. ;)

Sofa King 03-28-2023 09:25 AM

They literally said they had those huge queue's etc so they could test it out for launch. They warned everyone ahead of time and said that was going to happen. No one should have been surprised. They even had a warning when you open the game up saying there was long wait times. They did this to prevent it from happening on launch.

But yeah, go ahead and delete it.

The Franchise 03-28-2023 09:26 AM

Even without playing the beta...I'll probably end up getting it at launch.

Of all who is playing here in 30 or so minutes, what classes are ya'll starting with?

Super long queue just to login to battle.net...gonna be a dumpster fire tonight I'm sure.

Sofa King 06-01-2023 07:06 PM

I'll play when it releases, I didn't pay the extra. I usually do Sorc so I'll probably do that. Rogue seems to have good 1v1 stats. Barbs will probably own pvp. Druids sucked in the beta but got pumped up some after. Necros looked cool but are likely summon dependent.

Maybe I should do Barb. That two weapon wielding looks fun.

My only gripe with the story so far is having to wait until Act 4 to get a mount, ughhhh. Rest of the game is very well done other than some minor issues...Can't zoom out far enough and Inventory space is very limited.

Pretty much ACT 3 would have been better for mount. But from what I understand after you complete campaign on one char you don't have to do it on others.

Yes that's true, I'm also one chapter before the mount so I will get it very soon :)

You also can use the mount on ALL chars and don't have to unlock it again.

Just started late last night. Only like level 15. But I played the Beta until 20 so this isn't new stuff I'm seeing. I'm going to have to be a casual player on this, I don't have time to cram this game right now.

I'm only level 52, haven't been on since Sunday.

Don't waste resource upgrading gear till you are high level.

stanleychief 06-06-2023 10:34 PM

I haven't been keeping up on this as much as I should have. How is the game play compared to Diablo 3? Is it more than just a glorified expansion pack? Diablo 3 felt a bit too cartoonish. The graphics look more realistic and detailed on this one.

I was a D2 LoD addict back in the day. I moved from there into the TitanQuest universe. I feel like that was the closest D2 clone that has been made (that and Grim Dawn, which uses the same engine)

Fish 06-06-2023 10:43 PM

Man, I loved Diablo back in the day. Especially 1 and 2. Diablo 2 was incredible. But I'm really struggling to get motivated for this game for some reason.

Pants 06-07-2023 12:31 AM

Played today for a bit. Got to level 11.

Playing a barb. Combat feels good even with just two skills.

Graphics are pretty damn good.

This game is super polished and I can't find a single complaint so far but it didn't exactly hook me yet for whatever reason. Maybe I'm getting too old for ARPG, IDK.

Probably because Diablo is a 2nd tier ARPG these days. There's a handful of studios out there doing it better. But, Blizzard has a massive following and Diablo will always generate insane amounts of hype and be wildly successful regardless.

That's sort of the feeling I got when playing Diablo 3. The graphics were nice (Diablo 4's look better though!) but something about the game play didn't 'hook' me like Diablo 2 did.

I would say that if you haven't ever played Titan Quest, that you should give that a shot. You can get the original with the expansion on Steam for $19.99. It's a game from 2006, but was modernized in 2016. There's even a few studios that have made expansions for it recently. Titan Quest on Steam

They don't have the rich cinematics and cut scenes that the Diablo franchise is famous for, but there's a lot to like about the game, and it is very much addictive.

So right up my alley then. Awesome.

Gravedigger 06-08-2023 07:57 AM

These games aren't catered to a specific demographic. If you want to be a sweaty degenerate with the game you can be, the grind to 100 is still brutal from 50 - 100. In fact to level effectively from 50 - 100 you have to have the main story beaten in order to unlock World Tier 3 so you can get the 100% exp buff. That's one of my biggest complaints with the game, I hit 50 by the time I got to the end of the second act so now my leveling slows down to a crawl until I progress through the main storyline, then it's endless grinding through XP farm dungeons to reach 100 then.... not sure, but eventually the content runs out in these games and you're doing the same thing over and over and over and over again whether through xp dungeon farms or starting a new character and doing the whole thing over again. It's all about repetition, which many "Dad" gamers will only do once if even that. The "non-Dad" gamers can max out all their characters and play the same content over and over and over and over again. Good luck finding any games nowadays where you don't just do the same thing over and over again without any new content being presented to you for half a year at best. WoW has been doing this for twenty years, eventually you'll hit the wall and you either can't do anymore, or you don't want to do anymore. The term Dad gamer cracks me up, as a negative term thrown out by people who have little to no responsibilities in life. Sorry I ****ed a woman and got her pregnant, guess I'm not a real gamer anymore once I moved out of my mom's basement and had intercourse.

jd1020 06-08-2023 10:33 AM

I dont know of a single ARPG that caters to the 1% of "git gudders."

It's entirely a single player genre. You can play as much or as little as you like. You can finish the story line and kill any boss in the game long before your character is fully optimized.

We aren't talking about a struggle bus game like Demon Souls or some shit.

Blizzard did well

Pants 06-13-2023 11:55 PM

My barb is level 34 now. I just now finished Act 1, haha.

I haven't read any build guides yet and still can't decide what I am going to do.

The skill tree is a tough decision at every turn. 6 active skills is so tough - like I just can't decide which skills I want to use. I love that this game is forcing me to make hard decisions.

I quit playing the nerfed Barb and moved on to Rogue, I like it much better.

Oh brother.......

Barbs become god late game, it does suck in the middle

But I'm level 63 and I'm tearing through shit.

I always felt very lackluster on the damage, gave up at level 44. Rogue is quick and does a lot better damage. I died constantly on the barb and I think only have died once on the Rogue due to being stun locked for about 7 seconds. Plus the Barb gets nerfed every other day lolz

I'm low 40's, running a sorc. Fun so far. Need to finish the campaign and then hit all the side stuff and dungeons. Want a mount.

I have to wait because I know I’m getting this for Father’s Day.

I'm level 53 on my barbarian. I finished the campaign and I'm still using the same rend leveling build that I've had the whole time. I don't know if I should switch to the charge/rend build or the whirlwind build.

Yeah im running world tier 4 also. The tier lists for nightmare dungeons actually have HOTA as the top build right now. Like post-level 100 dungeons

hometeam 06-22-2023 06:50 PM

I've heard the Necro is way underpowered at endgame, and man you're playing a lot. Do you play any other games right now? lolz

it's a good game. I'm up to 75 with my pulverize druid. I believe I was building it wrong and now am working on getting the proper rolls on gear. I overvalued overpower and flat damage on the weapon like a damn noob! Need to focus more on crit damage, vulnerable damage (as that seems to be by far the best way to scale damage) and a bit more defenses. Have tried a few tier 40+ nightmare dungeons but its a lot smoother just doing tier 30.

Just got 68. Experimented with several, mostly the fire skills earlier. Settled in with Frost Bolt, Chain Lightning, Hydra, Blizzard, Deep Freeze with Flame Shield as an "oh shit" button.

Blizzard and Deep Freeze become really good once you get legendary gear that adds falling ice shard damage with them. Stacking three blizzards on top of each other kill giant groups pretty quick.

Edit, after switching to world tier 4 chain lightning wasn't doing much because of all my cold stats so swapped it to frozen orb. Seems like once you get that high you have to commit to one element mostly.
