Steve Bono 76 yard bootleg Touchdown / thread |
To be fair, that might be the best play of that entire era. I still remember it vividly. It was pretty sweet.

I said it then and I will say it now... Thiggy is twice the QB Cassel was. Given the roster... I would have started Thiggy in every game over any of the other bullshit QBs in the stable over the time he was in KC.
Fun bit of Trivia... our current backup QB was once teammates with Thiggy. |

So a supposed Raider fan starts a thread about a big Thigpen play, and two Thiggy partisans magically appear from the mist?
Things that make you go :hmmm: |

He even commissioned a Thiggy Rap. Reposted below: He puts balls in the sky, make DB's say "why" (uh huh) **** a DB, prefer a TD (that's right) Every throw like woah,oh there he go (come on) He's the QB with a bootie and he's oh so cutie (haaah) Now who's the real QB, meaning who's really the shit?? Them punks ride dicks, thiggy throws past the sticks, Biceps he flexes, apex, at blitzes he laugh All day in practice, bullets he pass Gonna blast DB's first, then whoop they ass, Nothing like these so called QBS pass, At last a QB getting respect on these boards, Stats and QBR, maybe a sparq score, arguing on the boards, His game still stay mint, Not understood by laymen, SFRF's statement don't make a difference, For Thiggy there ain't no replacement, Fooling an MLB, his game is filthy, Best QB, asking DB's like "pick me" [Chorus] Thiggy thiggy thiggy can't you see, Sometimes your throws just hypnotize me, And I just love your flashy plays, I guess why they sit and you still play |
The Chiefs were 2-14 that year, but that particular 2-14 team was actually kind of fun to watch.
At least initially, anyway. Todd Haley did Chan Gailey wrong. |

I've always been sort of intrigued by the what-if of not firing Herm Edwards and seeing where things went with Thigpen and the pistol. I'm not saying it would have been good but I don't think it would have been worse than where we ended up with Cassel and Pioli.

That was the year Cardinals fans were on the Buddy Ryan bandwagon and it all ended up crashing and burning with him leaving the field early against the Cowboys and getting fired. That Bono run was the beginning of the end for Buddy. |

And yeah, I kind of thought that Thigpen should've had more of a chance than he did. He was unorthodox, but seemed more effective than others he was competiing against. |
This reminds me that the Chiefs have some surprising current record holders for various team records. You’d think that these records would have fallen to Mahomes, Tyreek, Kelce, etc. by now.
Elvis Grbac still has the single game passing yards record with 503. Marc Boerigter has the longest reception in franchise history (99 yards). Bono with the longest QB run in franchise history. Stephone Paige with the single game receiving yardage record (309 yards). |
Did his chief existence somehow get us Andy Reid and eventually pat Mahomes?

And obviously Boerigter's record also happens to be tied for 1st in the NFL record books and technically can't be broken. |

Yeah, they were a fairly entertaining and likable disaster. Then the Patriot Way happened. |

1 Jake Plummer 499 2 Peyton Manning 479 3 Kyle Orton 476 4 Gus Frerotte 462 5 Peyton Manning 462 6 Jay Cutler 447 7 Frank Tripucka 447 8 Charley Johnson 445 9 Peyton Manning 438 10 john elway 432 I find it hilarious that broncos fans think that elway was good. We would expect Manning to have a higher peak since Manning was actually a good quarterback. But consider that Plummer, Orton, Frerotte, Cutler, Tripucka, and Johnson all had higher peaks than elway. |

Carr4mvp is from North Carolina or something like that. He's not a regular raiders fan.

I know the screen grab is small-- but it's a jarring reminder of those times. |
How similar is the pistol offense we ran that season to the current rpo scheme?
|
Still a great gif.

Van Brocklin in 1951 still has the NFL record for most passing yards in a game (554). You'd think someone in today's NFL would have broken it by now. |
