Yeah, as much as I enjoy the Mandalorian, this shit looks amazing. Seems like a gritty espionage, political thriller where we can see how characters play both sides. Always enjoyed that part of Star Wars. Has the Rogue One aesthetic going on and it’s amazing.

I laughed when I saw that as well. I suppose you could say that planet is so decrepit and backwater from the Empire plundering it that they've been reduced to using projectile weapons, but maybe not lol.

Just give me more of that Rogue One war vibe in my Star Wars.

It was tinkered with a bit. The muzzle came to a point, so it's probably going to be portrayed as some sort of blaster. But clearly that prop started out life as an AK.

Looks like DIsney spent a shit ton of money on it at least (finally putting all that baby Yoda merchandise profits to use I see) Love the dark gritty feel to it.

I loved Rogue One. It is the best Star Wars movie since the original trilogy, and frankly I liked it as much if not a bit more than all of them but the first one. Hell, for that matter Solo was also better than I-III or VII through IX. Rogue One restored Vader as a badass in arguably the best scene in franchise history, and the Glory ending for all the good guys was a great touch. Basically it had all the good parts of ROTJ minus the ****ing teddy bears.

Much like Strange New Worlds, I just hope they don't **** it up. But since that odious woke bitch Kennedy got her fangs pulled, they've been doing pretty good.

Only thing I see different is they swapped the upper bolt dust cover with something weird and welded a bar across the safety/ejector port cover.

Pulled off the muzzle brake and WAALAA, a not-so-convincing blaster.

They should at least hide the bullets in the mag.

I'm gonna find it difficult to cheer for characters with TDS.
TDS is a serious mental illness, (look at Joy Behar). It should be treated through shock therapy, not celebrated.

Also, another ****in' prequel, seriously?!? "Oh no, Cassian looks like he's in real trouble this time, wait... didn't I see him die already?"

Gadzooks 08-10-2022 11:30 PM

So I took a look at the sticky in the Lounge...

I'd just like to clarify that the term Terminal Deceleration Syndrome (TDS) is commonly used for a wide range of medical findings—e.g., fractures, torn tissue, organ prolapse, rupture or tearing, etc.—which affects a person whose momentum in a particular direction was abruptly 'compromised'—e.g., jumps/falls from heights, impacts with other non-resilient stationary structures.

Y'know a lot of Star Wars characters have their momentum abruptly compromised and that's a real problem, both physically and mentally, and it could be treated with shock therapy, (Joy Behar).

When it comes to Star Wars movies, I judge them by the way they made me feel after the first viewing. While most people generally say ESB is the best movie, and perhaps it is, it left the 14-year-old me confused and depressed; it was definitely not what I was expecting or hoping for. Despite being annoyed by the teddy bears, 17-year-old me was thrilled by the ending of ROTJ. The cheer that erupted when Vader chucked the Emperor down the shaft that June night in 1983 at the long since demolished Kennedy Theater in Kirksville was the loudest I've ever heard - damned near Arrowhead loud. The jaded old fart me was similarly thrilled by the ending of Rogue One and, to a lesser extent, Solo. But none of them can top how exhilarated 11-year-old me was pretty much from end to end of the '77 original. As I've said many times, younger generations spoiled by decades of special effects advancement and CGI will simply never be able to appreciate what a game changer that was. That was the moment science fiction movies changed forever, and you had to be there. I can still watch a clip of the opening and remember how I leaned back in my seat with my jaw agape in utter amazement when the imperial cruiser slowly crossed the screen, after basically having to be dragged to see it by a friend because I thought it would be nothing more than "another stupid space movie."

So while I rank Rogue One right up there with the original, it didn't top that, because it's simply impossible to top. And of course, none of the numbered movies that came later even register.

I agree the feeling in the movie theatre after the first one back in the late 70's cant be topped emotionally. But...... Rogue One once they get to Scariff is the best "Star Wars" ever put on film. Hands down, no debate.

Hope they don't screw this up. Since Kennedy has been at least sidelined, maybe they can get back to their roots.

I think it's terrible when Star Wars fanatics pirate their content rather than monetarily support it. Stealing from your favorite franchise and then claiming to be their biggest fan. So weird.

I'm going to start it tonight.

staylor26 09-21-2022 10:19 PM

Watched all of the first 3 episodes. First 2 were solid, nothing special, but it really picks up in episode 3.

It's definitely better than Obi-Wan and Boba Fett.

In the four episodes what has been fantastic? I have yet to see it but a lot of talking a little special effect but a lot of no action. Like a lot of this Disney channel, it will crawl along then the last episode will have some action, and SW's fans will call it brilliant.

It's great storytelling and a slow-burn buildup. Yes, it is dragging its feet in regard to action more than I would hope, but the payoff has a chance to be fantastic. Hopefully.

And maybe we're grading on a curve here with other product Disney has put out lately regarding Star Wars and Marvel, Mandalorian excluded of course. But I'm liking it so far. They're doing a great job showing the Rebellion in its infancy, imo.

I'll admit I wasn't a fan of Star Wars, not my thing. I have Disney plus solely because my son and daughter like it. I like one show here and that's Mando mostly because it's like an old western in a way.

I never got into comics Marvel or any of the others. I read mad magazine and National Lampoon lol. So a lot of this is lost on me.

Graystoke 10-04-2022 10:09 AM

I'm enjoying this show a lot.
First 3 episodes were slow building up the backstory but I think its moving along nicely.
Its a grittier, believable and doesn't have campy bullshit (see Bobba Fett motorcycle gang).
Great acting as well.

It's sort of a psychological thriller. What has been fantastic is the way the characters have been portrayed by the dialogue, the plot, and the actors themselves. The first two episodes were a little clumsy. There were choices made in how it was edited that I didn't agree with and I think the show got bogged down a bit at times with a few scenes that just didn't play well. The parts showing Andor as a child were hit and miss, for example. It got tighter in the third episode, though, and the show has really hit its stride now. It's one of the best things on TV.

Buehler445 10-19-2022 07:45 AM

Finally caught up on this. I’ve stayed out of the thread because I figured clay was dropping spoilers like a mother****er.

I really enjoy it. The acting is really good and nothing the production is doing is taking me out of it.

I didn’t dig the jungle planet backstory a ton but I don’t hate it. I’m all about the on the run business. Because it feels like it has stakes. They’re doing a great job with the tone of the movie.

One thing I heard that hadn’t really thought of before is this is a show made for adults. People are ****ing getting shot in the face, ****ing mowed down, crushed, all of it. And there isn’t a jar jar mother****er to be found. Or even a kid at all in the movie. That’s a bold step.

If anyone listens to The Watch podcast, they interview Gilroy and it’s a pretty solid listen. Apparently he wrote them a letter and said:

This is what you’re planning to do. Here’s why it won’t work.
Here’s what you should not do.
If you’re going to do it it needs to be done this way.

And they went for it. Credit to KK, who has (rightfully) taken a mother****ing mountain of shit from this place, for making a good call.

Fiona Shaw [Maarva] - OMG, . . . that is a thespian

And that 80s vibe on Niamos, expected Cassian Keef to come out wearing a pastel blazer with the sleeves rolled up.

Oh and 'Shoretroopers' - ROFL ROFL ROFL

Man. Andor is THOROUGHLY good. Did not expect Disney to roll out my dream Star Wars series, but 7 episodes in and it's shaping up to be just that.

The Empire at its peak and it’s shadow looming over the day to day lives of everyone in the galaxy, the splintered lines of the rebellion, and seeing a collection of cold blooded murderers in the rebellion take on the empire who is represented by a dude with the demeanor of a middle manager at Best Buy hoping to transfer from Omaha to Austin (Episode 6), and yet, you’re glued to your seat and cheering for the rebels the whole time (potentially at the expense of the middle manager’s family!) I'm just loving every moment of this so far.

Loved seeing him on the screen after listening to Thrawn.

The Bismuth pitch drop is more exciting than this show.

Man - this is REALLY good.

And man, Stellan Skarsgard is so ****ing great. He brings such intensity and weight to any role.

Though Diego Luna will always be Button from Open Range to me.

Oh, and by the way, just remember that this is all a run up to his heroics in Rogue One that ultimately didn't mean ****-all until Mary Sue Skywalker showed up decades later and was 'all the Jedi' or whatever.

**** **** **** **** i hate that sequel trilogy so very much.

It even ruins the good stuff from the spin-offs.
