OK, Anybody here have an Extended Car Warranty?

Anybody here have Car Shield or any of the other Car Warranties advertised on TV, radio or by telephone?

Other than being so damn annoying, are there any that is worth the time to explore?

HemiEd 05-05-2022 08:44 AM

ROFL Sorry Roy, they are a ripoff.

Already knew that, I'm too damn old to not know it. But with the changing times was wondering if there really was one that was legit?

The younger generations will buy into them out of fear, which is what they sell you.

My favorite tactic is when they try to add 10 grand to your car loan to "Lock in shop repair work at our current rates."

LOL

Like I'd bring my vehicle to your shop for repair. Like I'd pay those rates. And like I'm going to spend that much/year on repairs, anyway.

I bought one once for my daughter's new car when she went to college so she would be able to take care of any issues. I didn't buy it at the time of purchase, but went searched online afterwards, as you have until the end of the bumper to bumper warranty to buy, and bought it discounted from another dealerships. Same Manufacturers extended warranty, just discounted substantially less by another dealership wanted to make a few hundred bucks. I would never by one of the aftermarket warranties.

I added a few dollars to my monthly car payment, in exchange for a lifetime bumper-to-bumper warranty. I bought it from the dealer, so it's not quite the same thing.

Unfortunately, life time warranties are aftermarket. Meaning NOT manufacturer supported. MOST of the "life time" warranty company is the denial department.

"Oh sorry Mr. Customer. 63,000 miles ago, you missed your oil change by 15 miles. That nullified the warranty."

I'm sure a lot of that goes on. One of the top dogs at the dealership is a longtime family friend, so I don't believe I'll be ****ed over. We'll see.

Let's just say, I hope it never needs to be tested.

If it cost $100 more to get no deductible it's probably worth it.

A manufacture's dealership is probably the safest bet if you need to purchase a warranty.

What kind of vehicle are you wanting to get a warranty for?

gblowfish 05-05-2022 10:07 AM

And while we're at it, can we buy your home too?

Those on TV are about $100 a month and usually only good up to 150K miles. Your manufacturer's warranty is usually 3 years/36K miles although some will warranty the drivetrain longer. Buyer beware.

ChiefBlueCFC 05-05-2022 10:32 AM

If I was mechanically inclined, I would almost never purchase one of those, but since I can't do much more than the basic stuff, I got an extended through the dealership

My Challenger, 09, came with a lifetime power train warranty. It was the only year they did that and I have to take it in for dealership inspection every 5 years.

I'd bet $5 that Roy doesn't even have robot insurance...

There's a reason the F&I guy is normally the richest guy at the dealership. "Lifetime warranties", glass etching, etc. all add to his/her wealth and often screw the salesman -not that he/she cares.

Hog's Gone Fishin 05-05-2022 02:41 PM

I bought my daughter a Dodge Ram 1500 with 94,000 miles and then purchased an extended warranty that covers it for 60 months up to 170,000 . I guess I'll find out if they're any good when I blow the motor up at 169,950

TLO 05-05-2022 02:52 PM

I've been watching this Scammer Payback guy on Youtube. Would recommend giving him a watch.

Bwana 05-05-2022 04:17 PM

I do not, in spite of getting at least one call a week from some lowlife slippery Larry trying to sell me one. A lot of them are just automated robocalls. I block every one of them, but they must have millions of numbers.

This here is the truth!

Here is a typical purchase from a Stealership!

Salesman: "this is a great car, very reliable"

Finance guy:" Oh man you better purchase an extended warranty. It's a bazillion dollars to replace a transmission, And the computers those are gonna cost you!"

Me: "Wait a minute your salesman just told me how great this car is, now you're in here telling me it's a piece of shit and its gonna cost me big time in repairs!"
