****Official 2022 Free Agency Megathread****

Legal tampering period begins tomorrow, March 14th. Throw all of your rumors and moves in here.

Obviously, for the people who hate mega threads, feel free to create a new thread for larger moves and anything Chiefs.

DANIEL SORENSEN IS NO LONGER ON THIS TEAM!

Veach is about to fill more holes than Johnny Sins

The Franchise 03-13-2022 11:09 AM

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports free agent Bobby Wagner wants to sign with the Rams or Chargers.

Signing with either team would be a homecoming for Wagner, who's from Los Angeles. The Rams would allow Wagner to stay in the NFC West while the Chargers have the cap space to get a deal done. Wagner has also been connected to Dallas and ex-Seahawks DC Dan Quinn but it's unlikely the Cowboys have the money to sign him. The six-time All Pro is the top linebacker available in free agency.

Dante84 03-13-2022 11:22 AM

Man, Chargers are trying to build a super team on defense.

Chief Northman 03-13-2022 11:29 AM

Chargers to aggressively pursue JC Jackson according to Steve Wyche on NFLN

The Franchise 03-13-2022 11:31 AM

Chargers have to make sure they’re structuring these contracts correctly. Just selling out and signing all these high priced players on defense could come back to bite them in the ass.

RunKC 03-13-2022 11:32 AM

I’d like to aggressive attack our DL and secondary in FA and then get our WR in the draft. Hope we don’t spend much on these WR’s they aren’t worth the price tag

Chief Northman 03-13-2022 11:36 AM

I’m so pissed the Chiefs left Ogbah walk without an extension or deal a couple years back. They instead invested in Okafor and that turned out like shit…

IIRC…Okafor’s contract was hard to get out of that point. Obviously wasn’t the right move but they wouldn’t have been able to afford the cost of cutting Okafor on top of a new deal for Ogbah.

MahomesMagic 03-13-2022 11:42 AM

My preference would be to sign or trade for one more elite weapon for Mahomes and then use draft and rest of FA to throw cheap, hungry players at D.

Don't want to spend money on middle class, that's where you get burned...see Hitchens.

We really just couldn't make it work. Similar to Mitch Morse (even though we totally upgraded in the end).

Sometimes that happens. You find a good player who'd be nice to have around, but their market value is just something that doesn't make sense for you. It would have been one thing if we didn't do the Frank Clark deal, but that's a different story.

Okafor had a cap hit of less than $3 million in 2020. They choose Watkins over Ogbah ($9 million cap hit). Also extended Chris Jones with a cap hit of $15 million that year

They’ve got two days to get under the cap.

Hill extension.
Clark cut/trade.
Mahomes restructure.
Thuney restructure.
Kelce restructure.

There’s plenty of places.

PMII is 26. The Kelce, Hill, and Jones will come and go.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Raiders and Patriots have interest in D.J. Chark.

With Amari Cooper traded, Mike Williams re-signed, and Chris Godwin and Davante Adams franchise tagged, the mid-tier free-agency market should again be bustling. Chark broke his ankle in early October but could be a good fit for someone looking for a true outside receiver. The Raiders and Patriots both qualify as teams that are in need, even if Chark hasn't exactly followed up on his 2019 breakout season with a good year.

Gives us unstoppable offense for 2 years and we can add a pass rusher in FA.

You can probably get a lot better WR than Lockett for a 2nd rounder. He's a good #2 though and I really like Lockett.

Would you trade a second for Lockett, and a first for Fletcher Cox?

Same. I think Lockett plus their 2nd for our first and like a 2023 6th round be fine.

I know it's a stupid and irrational reason, but I'm getting tired of sitting there holding my dick on draft night.

As a fan, I'd rather get excited when my team is on the clock and about to select somebody in the first round than having to remind myself, "It's fine... your team already got a player."

The Mahomes trade up was fine. I didn't care about missing out in 2018. But the Clark and OBJ year, I was like, "Look, we gotta do what we gotta do, but **** this."

BigChiefFan 03-13-2022 09:30 PM

The Chiefs should be all over some D-Line and WR upgrades.
Names of Interest...

DT Eddie Goldman
DT BJ Hill
DE Derek Barnett
DL Bilal Nichols
DE Emmanuel Ogbah

WR Christian Kirk
WR Russell Gage
WR Will Fuller
WR JuJu Smith-Schuster
WR Allen Robinson

I think we’ll end up making a trade that get’s us a bonifide star, upgrades the roster and solidifies the positional group. Possible trade partners Seahawks, Panthers, Vikings, Commanders.

He would be a fun answer to teams playing shell or dropping 8.

Since we don't run much Mahomes could just dump the ball to him in space and let him get 8 plus yards.

It wasn't fake. Packers and Preston Smith agreed to an extension. Iconic got excited that it would keep Smith off the market. Only problem was its the wrong Smith.

Iconic 03-14-2022 07:33 AM

lmao my dumbass posted a tweet about the wrong smith

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Packers?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Packers</a> have agreed to terms with pass-rusher Preston Smith on a 4-year extension worth $52.5M in new money, source said. He gets over $65M over 5 years in all with a chance to make $71M. He gets $14M in year 1. So, one Smith brother sticks around. <a href="https://t.co/uB7ga4XbzX">pic.twitter.com/uB7ga4XbzX</a></p>&mdash; Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1503362259925536771?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 14, 2022</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

But no way the Packers have the money to pay Za'Darius too after this.

Well…the other Smith is going to be cut. I just hope that we don’t overpay for him.

Considering he was clearly our best back, this is less than ideal but on the other hand we can find his replacement the same way we found him.

I'd offer Darrel about what he had last year. We need to get more dynamic. Darrel is the argument for not sighing guys like Darrel to any significant money.

TambaBerry 03-14-2022 07:47 AM

I just can't see Veach being like yeah boys let's go from Frank Clark to this other dude who has a bad back. I understand when healthy he is way better then Clark.

Re sign Ingram please

MahomesMagic 03-14-2022 07:53 AM

Give me 4 Ingrams, play them less than 50 percent of snaps.

If we're getting guys over 30 make them cheap and guys who will run through a wall for a few plays.

OKchiefs 03-14-2022 08:22 AM

Buffalo released RT Darryl Williams. Not familiar with him, possible affordable option at RT?

I thought there was talk of him falling off this year prior to the Buffalo playoff game, but i could be mistaken.
