Anybody else watching this on Apple TV+? 4 episodes released so far and I’m enjoying it.

Third Eye 03-07-2022 08:13 PM

Guess it’s just me!

Baby Lee 03-07-2022 08:53 PM

Ive been watching, but I don't have anything to say about it.

I'm 50/50, it presents intriguing possibility, but it hasn't actually paid any of it off yet.

Could pay off handsomely, could sputter out like LOST.

Pepe Silvia 03-07-2022 09:17 PM

I like Adam Scott so I might check it out some time in the future.

We got 3 pretty good years out of Lost though and this one’s only 4 episodes in. It could do a lot worse.

Spoiler!

I referenced LOST so people would know the dynamic I'm referring to.

I'm not talking about 10 years of prime-time programming, here. I'm talking about a show that has introduced a lot of intrigue and mystery, but the verdict is still out on resolution and payoff.

I anticipate we'll have a clearer picture sooner than later.

Talisman 03-08-2022 11:19 AM

I think it looks really interesting. Plan on checking it out soon. But with so many options right now, I'm not starting a series until all episodes are out. My wife and I sometimes get to binging, and I'd rather finish something up before moving to a new show.

I like that Netflix doesn't drag you along. When a series is out, it's out. The rest of the streaming services seem to think they need to release an episode per week to keep their subscribers paying.

It depends on the show, but I generally prefer the week to week model. When I binge a show, I generally don’t retain as much from it and it’s less impactful. I rather enjoy the theorizing and anticipation that come from having to wait a week for the next episode.

Baby Lee 03-25-2022 02:45 PM

Things heated up a shit ton this week, and I gotta say . . . It's not everyday that a long-established and well-known music standard is completely recontextualized by how perfectly it's used in a new piece of creativity. But they pulled that off splendidly as well this episode, not to spoil with specifics . . . [actually, to a minor extent, TWO well-known standards, though the second was more just a great use, than a re-contextualization].

And holy shit the closing moment!!

Oh man, my interest is piqued. I can’t flip it on until about 10 tonight (not really a show for the kiddos), but your post has me looking forward to it.

Love this show. Was really surprised to see that Ben Stiller directed the first three episodes. Definitely some Kubric Vibes. Watched the first seven shows so far. Little bits of Lost and Westworld and Black Mirror.

Really sucks they casted him as the main guy. It's so hard looking at his stupid face sometimes. But... the writing and acting were strong enough to overcome that obstacle.

Worth a watch IMO.

True. I almost didn’t watch this because his performance in big little lies. I def wanted to punch that guy in that show.

This is a great show tho. Re-watching the first seven episodes.

**** that. No way am I ever investing in a "Lost" type show again. Caring about the characters, the story, how they end up..... and then it ends without explaining everything. Even after the show the arrogant producers and show runners don't explain the answer's to many mystery's that they left out. **** you fans, we are done and moving on.

Piss's me off just thinking about it

In addition to lost....
Sopranos - Why not let us know whether Tony lived or died?
Game of Thrones - You are tired and want to move on so you left it a couple of season short and rushed it through. What a **** you to the fans.

I knew this episode would end right where it did. I knew it halfway through but in my heart was hoping for more and when the black screen with the credit started I was so mad but if I made this show I know I’d have ended it there too.

It was exquisitely choreographed and scored, and the first outie-Helly glimpse [outside the moment in the parking lot in the premiere] was tantalizing and perfected timed.

That was a pretty damn tense finale, and yeah, they left several threads just dangling there right in front of us. Unfortunately, I think we are going to be waiting a bit as it was just announced this week that they’d be getting a second season.

I think this might be my favorite show to come out in several years. It’s not a terribly deep show, but man, it really hooked me.

Zebedee DuBois 04-08-2022 08:15 AM

OMG I didn't realize that was the season finale! I definately want to know what happens next. The show is so delightfully odd and quirky.

Oh, and bring Milcheck in for a look. Great tackle.

Third Eye 04-08-2022 02:05 PM

**** me. From a Rolling Stone interview with Ben Stiller:

Any idea when you may be going into production on Season Two?
The hope is that we would get into production by the end of the year.

And if you do that, would the show be able to be back in 2023?
Possibly, possibly, yeah.

Tramell Tillmon is an incredible actor. His presence during M/DE from episode 7, facial expressions that say a million unspoken words and general charisma surrounding his role as Mr. Milchek are award worthy.

BigRichard 04-09-2022 04:57 AM

Now that the cat is out of the bag so to speak I suspect the second season we will learn more about Lumon.

Talisman 04-15-2022 10:06 AM

Spoiler!

Just my humble opinion and all that, but Severance is way better. HotD is fine and all, not hating, but it certainly wouldn’t be anywhere near my best of the year list. I feel like there’s only 2 or 3 memorable characters and the best one died.

Edit: I should mention that I have a pretty large anti-Martin bias as someone who used to be a fan of the books long before the show was even a thought and had to come to accept that ole Georgie has no intention of ever finishing.

There was a report a while back detailing some fighting between the showrunners and scrapped scripts. It was quickly denied and Ben Stiller commented that the show was still on the same slow schedule they had set post strike.

I'm hopeful we get a season 2 that is of the same quality as season 1, but there has been some smoke.

have you read the online companion The Lexington Letter?

it's free download on Apple Books, it's a side story written by the creators of the show. Gives some insight or suspicion into what the job entails/what they're really doing, etc. Worth reading 100 percent.

includes a 22-page Macrodata Refiner's orientation booklet.

I definitely don’t buy the newspaper and famous thing as legitimate. But we should get information on that as soon as we see the outie world again.

I think this show is set up to be hugely successful with another good season. I’ve seen it promoted a ton and it should get a lot of people on board as its presence becomes more known. Its only issue is being on Apple.

In the tool bar above the area where youre typing your reply fifth from the right is a talk bubble with the word spoil in it.

Tao that to insert the before and after spoil /spoil in brackets and type between them

mr. tegu 01-25-2025 07:40 PM

I was not expecting and didn’t like the family’s response to what “she’s alive” meant but I’m glad we got to see some seeds of doubt about that in Mark at the end.

Really getting interesting with Mark’s innie and his level of importance to the big project. And I feel dumb for not making this connection but now that we know it wasn’t actually five months it’s so obvious why Milchick was still transitioning to his new office.

Not gonna spoiler my response because I’m only responding to the non-spoiler bit.

I love, and I mean absolutely love, that it isn’t a full season drop. It gives me a chance to savor each episode and think and theorize and check in with a podcast or two. I’m good with full season drops for shows like Cobra Kai or something equally thoughtless. For a show like this, it would suck to be done in 2 or 3 days after waiting so long and I don’t think it would have nearly the same impact.
