Wtf no Squid Game thread?
So started watching this dubbed in English and made it 1.5 episodes. The voice overs are atrocious and the way that it was translated just makes it sound even worse. I legit thought that people had just gone completely nuts for liking this shit show.
Then I changed it to Korean with English subs. Soooo much better. The voice acting by the English was just completely over the top and none of the voices matched the characters. Will be finishing this tomorrow I'd say. I just can't believe we don't have a thread for this. It's probably going to Netflixs biggest show/movie ever. |
I don't even know what you are talking about
|
Watched it… it was meh.
|
Yeah, unless it is animated, I'd never watch foreign language movies/tv shows dubbed.
Squid Game is entertaining enough. Fun concept and it at least got you rooting for several of those characters. I did feel it was overly long and didn't need to be 9 episodes, but it was pretty effective for what it was. If you like it, you'll probably like the Japanese movie Battle Royale that came out about two decades ago which seems to have very much inspired Squid Game. |
Amazing that a series with subtitles has gotten this popular. I might try to watch an episode but I could barely get thru the trailer without the dubbed english not matching their lips
|
For the love of God don't watch the dubbed version.

How in the ****ING HELL can you possibly care about dubbing? Who gives a shit? You still get the story. I give it a 8 out of 10. Liked it very much!
|
I tried to watch it weds night but after 20 minutes of reading, I got bored and started Mare of Eastwick or whatever it was. It started slow but finished ep 5 it's picked up.
|
Slow as F. Asian overacting, felt like I was watching a Godzilla film

I found it entertaining. The only thing that was actually bad was the VIPs acting. Those guys were terrible. There are definitely a lot of things the can do with this but if they make the main character suddenly capable of infiltrating or outsmarting the organization to get answers that will be a disappointment.

One thing I laughed at...

So this is where we are headed? |
My son got me to watch, and I actually thought the series was pretty good. Pretty brutal and stressful at times. Didn't love the ending. Are we free to discuss spoilers here? I see people using tags but that's kind of cumbersome. I typically avoid threads about shows I'm not caught up on but not sure if others do as well.

Yeah my son insisted I watch it with subtitles. Took a few minutes to get used to it but I was fine with it. What's funny is I didn't notice at first that one of the characters was speaking english.
|
Subtitles? Yeah, never.
|
The only thing I disliked about the show was the ending.
Other than that I thought it was really good. The english dub is way better than I thought it would be. |
Brilliant piece of work.
|
Just finished this. It was pretty good.
So with that ending is it safe to assume they are planning another season? |
I watch UrinatingTree on youtube, a channel focused on NFL games. Every week, he does a humorous breakdown of all the games and how the teams/players are doing.
For this season, every week that a team got mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, he'd play a Squid Game death scene with the eliminated team's logo over the person's face. It was these scenes that finally got me to watch the series. Definitely better in Korean with English subtitles, but the "green light red light" game makes more sense in English. In English, it's two short, separate phrases, so it's easy to catch someone moving. In Korean, however, it's one single, longer phrase. Not sure how you get caught moving. |

I'm curious, though, what a guy with $40 million is going to do against an organization backed and funded by the financial/influential equivalent of the Illuminati. |

S2 was good (well, the part with the actual games, the other story involving the "search" less so) but you could tell it wasn't actually a full season given where it ended.
Netflix effectively split one full season in half so they could keep the $$$ train rolling later this year. |

They obviously knew there was going to be a season 3, because they announced it just a few days after premiering season 2. |
I liked season 2, but didn't love the lead up to the ending. I wish the "plan" that they did would have been a little more spur of the moment instead of letting the O's have their way while they hid.
|
The guy who made this show had no desire to do more seasons but Netflix paid him **** all for season 1 so here he is doing more shows.
