AMC Theaters to start showing NFL games on the big screen

This would be great if you're lucky enough to live in one of the cities where its available. Only downside so far is they've only been given clearance to show out of market games but they're currently in negotiations with the league on that.

Bullish as ****.

KCUnited 09-18-2021 05:24 PM

To the Warren Moon!

RollChiefsRoll 09-18-2021 05:26 PM

Imagine the drunken fights inside the theaters.

Easy 6 09-18-2021 05:32 PM

Sounds great in theory, there’s an AMC literally 4 blocks from me… but I’d probably be far more comfortable at home

Munson 09-18-2021 05:33 PM

Good move for AMC. They should've done this years ago.

Pablo 09-18-2021 05:35 PM

That will get people who don't have a 60 inch TV into the theater. So like 7 people

Pretty sure they did. I'm 90% sure I saw ads for it years ago.

A sports bar with only a single over sized TV?

Weird they would have a problem with the local games.

Imagine walking by a theater and hearing the tomahawk chop chant really loud lol

TLO 09-18-2021 05:50 PM

This doesn't appeal to me whatsoever. I don't even like watching Chiefs games with other people. (Outside of the people in Discord chat)

Jewish Rabbi 09-18-2021 05:56 PM

If I wanted to pay $19.50 for a beer I’d just go to the game.

Prison Bitch 09-18-2021 06:09 PM

Only idiots watch live TV

lewdog 09-18-2021 06:10 PM

AMC STOCK!!!

Deberg_1990 09-18-2021 06:11 PM

Good idea. Some Theaters in my area show UFC matches and big boxing matches

Hog's Gone Fishin 09-18-2021 06:12 PM

Bathrooms would be much more convenient.

Does anybody stand at attention while the national anthem plays at home? Thanks he military plays the SB in theaters overseas. Sucks ass. Assholes that have zero insight the game are acting like douche bags throughout the whole game. Hope the civilian theater would be a better experience.

FAX 09-18-2021 07:29 PM

Demographic structures in Nashville have changed pretty dramatically.

They are featuring the Cowgirls vs. Lambs here.

I anticipate a standing-room-only crowd.

TribalElder 09-18-2021 07:37 PM

the only way this is appealing is if I get the uncut rated R audio feed from the game

No but you can see commercials for the next Adam Sandler movie. Sold?

T-post Tom 09-18-2021 07:55 PM

Makes sense. The only place where crap food prices rival crap stadium food prices. (generally speaking)

Tribal Warfare 09-18-2021 08:11 PM

This would be good for people who live outside the broadcast area

smithandrew051 09-18-2021 08:20 PM

I don’t go to porno theaters, because I can’t trust myself to not jerk off in public.

You honestly think I could go watch Mahomes on the big screen and not end up prison? No chance.

so weird, I'm totally the same way.

-King- 09-18-2021 08:34 PM

Pass. I don't want to have to pace up and down stairs around strangers when there's a tense game situation.

Flying High D 09-18-2021 08:50 PM

GB could do a Ten things heard at the movie theater during the Chiefs game.

If it's on local broadcast, I delay watch on YouTube TV and skip commercials.

I haven't figured out out an easy way/reasonably priced method to record Sunday Ticket on my desktop and delay watch.

I’ve become a semi-expert on what makes watching Chief football in public places a fun experience for fans. Movie theatre's ain’t it.

**** that shit. Go out and watch a game in rows? Sure you get a comfy chair and a big screen but you probably got a comfy chair at home. Big enough TV.

You go out to watch a Chief's game with your fellow fans you want to high five fans, interact with them etc. sitting in long rows doesn’t work.

Ummmmm. The one KC area theater doing this is showing Denver vs Jax. Wtf??

Dunerdr 09-18-2021 10:53 PM

This would be great for groups outside the kc market to get together.

No it’s not. It’s horrible. We have tried it twice in two states. Everyone hated it.

Sounds like a good show for a big group to bring cartons of eggs to.

Hey one of you guys should make the GDT.

Eureka 09-18-2021 11:19 PM

In my hometown they do MNF at the theatre. It's an old theatre that was turned into a dinner/bar/movie place. When you walk in you order your food from the stand and they give you a number. There's a big bar in the back of the theatre and you can take a seat at a table and watch the game.

I'm surprised you don't see this more in other areas. Take your kids to see Back to the future (or whatever) for cheap entrance price while ordering dinner etc. My favorite was The big Lebowski night they did yearly. I would dress up as the dude and white Russians were a couple dollars.

AMC contacted Arrowhead South. AMC gave us a theatre. Wanted to see how an established fan club would like it. About 1/2 went to try it. It was free and they gave everyone hot dogs and popcorn. Feedback was they hated it. Next year tbey wanted to try another state. Put them in touch with another one of our chapters. Same results. Chief fans hated it.

I Wonder why they hated it? Seems like an ok idea.

you couldn’t move around easily. Beer was too high priced. Can’t interact easily.

In the OG chapter I had 156 Chief fans last week. We score I always get everyone a high five. Go around all the place. Indoors, outdoors, the bar, long tables etc. we have raffles. Halftime stuff. Interacting with the fans is the key. Sometimes we BBQ and tailgate in the lot prior to the game.

I built Arrowhead South from 6-8 Chief fans up to 27 different cities of chapters in 9 states in the South. People love the vision. More wanted to join.

This off season Arrowhead Kingdom was born. It has grown to 97 Chief fan chapters in 37 states with chapters in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Italy. So far….That says this is the formula. All free. All volunteer.

Guarantee you go to one of our established chapters, that couch at home won’t seem so cozy anymore.

Not gonna lie, my brother and I watched the McGregor vs. Mayweather boxing match at AMC. It was was pretty epic in that atmosphere.

scho63 09-19-2021 10:48 AM

Sounds good in theory, shitty in practice.

Gonna be a fail

Very different- 1 fight at one time.

NFL fans are very different.

Not only that, but if you live in KC you’d probably have to sit there with a mask on in a theater to watch football right now.

Good points. Sports is just a social experience. You need to be able to move around and enjoy the moment...

Fish 09-19-2021 11:54 AM

Can you yell and cheer, or do you get shushed? Is it actually dark like a movie?

KChiefs1 09-19-2021 03:03 PM

I’d be willing to try it once.

yep, when you get to share this golden era of Chiefs football with 50-150 fellow screaming Chief fans….. that’ll get you off that comfy couch and outta the house.

Megatron96 09-19-2021 05:29 PM

Sounds like it could be fun. Certainly the largest screen I'd ever see a game on.

Except the seats have cushions, there's a bathroom less than 100 feet from every seat, and it's airconditioned.

I went to one in KC several years ago, some random Kansas football game when they weren't the worst team in CFB... it was comfy, the seats reclined. Pretty sure it was free, then of course food is overpriced.

If not live or on my own couch, I'd prefer a sports bar over movie theater, but not a bad option either.

Agreed. But it could be fun once or twice.
