What's a moment you stopped and thought "this is rad af!"?

For me it was that time I was at Coachella same year as Noel Gallager and found myself front row center at the main stage seeing Noel Gallager front row center at Coachella.

I took a moment, let it all sink in and thought it was rad af.

TimBone 06-08-2020 11:16 PM

Mine was actually at a Chiefs game. Against the Raiders a few years ago when the crowd was chanting Tyreek's name and then he returned the punt for a TD.

That's a rad moment for sure. I bet being in the stands when KC clinched home field was pretty rad too.

I had so many of those moments in January and February of this year.

In fact, I had one of those moments today. I saw a Chiefs super bowl sticker. Still can't believe it. So rad.

The other night I was outside looking up at the full moon and there were spotty clouds moving through giving it lots of windows to be seen. The moon was casting such a glow that the clouds were definitely visible and white, adding to the perspective. After a while it started to look like it was the moon that was moving and the earth and the clouds were still. I thought if I was tripping, that would have been pretty rad.

I wasn’t tripping, but the ‘98 Leonids were one of the more amazing things I’ve seen. Some incredible fireballs. It was somewhere between 500-600 meteors per hour which I thought was amazing. Apparently it was in the thousands in 1966. I’m already tentatively planning a trip out west for the next big one in 2034.

In the top rec league division.

.....and no, I'm not even close to being a top rec league player, which made it that much more awesome.

EDIT: Chiefs-wise, Sammy Watkins touchdown in the AFC Championship Game which all but sealed KC's trip to the Super Bowl. My phone was absolutely flooded with congratulatory text messages.

alot of mine were Navy related as a 19/20yr old lad.

being able to step out of the superstructure of the Aircraft carrier, and witness flight ops / take offs / traps in person was definitely RAD. I was an office guy so I wasn't qualified to be on the flight deck during ops, but was able to go out with the Maintenance Chief in our sqaudron and basically just stand against the superstructure. even manged to peak out from one of the cat walks on the exterior to get closer to some of the catapults during the cat shot.

acquiring 13 GPS satellites in the middle of the night / pitch black on vultures row of the Carrier with a big GPS unit (Circa 1997); to then take data back down to the CIC so pilots could load data into their bricks/mission planning system; then that next morning dropping the first successful GPS guided munition (JSOW) in battle (at least that's what they said); and seeing the imagery pass from the satellite a few hours later for the battle damage assessment.

Seeing an old classmate of mine from A-School in the Navy who went on to, and Completed BUD/S; while my F/A-18 squadron was on detachment at Naval Strike & Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) in Fallon NV; He was there for his post BUDS SEAL training with his Team; and somehow myself and my Intel officer got invited out to the field with them. Middle of the night, dark ass desert; they were practicing lazing targets for the F/A-18's above. Watching them rope (making a circle) with green lazer for the pilot to acquire where they were at on the ground, and hearing the pilot confirm their location over the radio. green lazer off, then the lazing of the actual target (an empty 18 wheeler). Hearing the jet (couldn't see anything at night) roar over us after it had passed us. Then about 20-30 seconds later a huge white flash that lit up everything....then a huge sound wave finally getting to us about 2 or 3 miles from the target.

Watching Top Fuel Funny Cars and Dragsters in the pits warm up / set the clutch with the nitro on. And watching a Top Fuel race of course.

lots of Rad stuff.

Some things that are rad to me, are likely "uh, pass" to the majority of society.

While in the Army back in 2004 I participated in the 60th commemorative jump into Normandy. I was a Jumpmaster on a C-130, and we were jumping into St. Mere Eglise, on a DZ used during the war. It was pretty fookin' rad to be standing in the door overlooking the French countryside slipping by, then rotating back inside the aircraft and seeing 64 of my guys looking back at me, hooked up and ready to jump at my command. It was impossible not to think about hundreds of C47s dodging AA fire, paratroopers spilling out of burning aircraft, towns on fire below, and seeing tracer fire arc up toward you-- all around the very same space I was sharing only separated by a sliver of time.

I burned that memory, and that feeling, into my hard drive.

I got an autographed picture of Carrie Fisher back in like 1978. She was standing next to the Millennium Falcon with a blaster. It was signed "Galactically yours, Carrie Fisher". I was 7 or 8. But...my parents moved to a rental for about a year and somehow that picture got lost. But it did happen...I swear it.

Celebrated 25 years with my wife on Aruba. I was sitting on the beach thinking how we had no business being here, given that we were in HS when she got pregnant and almost divorced like 3 times in the early days. That was indeed rad.

3 years ago, I finally was able to see the legendary Sir Paul McCartney live in concert. After 3 straight hours of performing, he wrapped up the second encore with Hey Jude. The last 4 minutes with the crowd singing were magical.

This obviously isn't the concert I attended, but it's a perfect example:

If you can swing it, man go to Aruba. It's expensive, we stayed at the Bucuti and Tara resort. Adult only, no little kids running around. They brought your drinks to you on the beach, greeted with champaign at check in, there was a TV in the bathroom mirror...shit. I felt like a king. You can go anywhere you want on the island, there is no crime problem, and everyone is very particular about making visitors welcome...it's their bread and butter after all.

They have a web cam so you can see the views:

https://www.bucuti.com/?utm_source=v...edium=referral

First language is basically Spanish, then English and Dutch, then some kind of native tounge. I spoke some of my choppy ass Spanish ( I know enough to at least communicate) and they really appreciated the effort.

I saw AC/DC in 2010. I was center stage at the end of the catwalk. Towards the end of the show, I was buzzed, and Angus Young comes out during his solo. He's so into it - that he is spinning and I am getting covered in his sweat...at the same time, there is an unmistakable smell of Mary Jane. It was so loud that you couldn't hear yourself for a couple days afterwards. That moment is one I'll never forget.

I took the Fam to Aruba this past January for a week. We stayed at the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino - adult side. It was amazing. The Renaissance has a private beach you can go to by boat and spend the day. We did that, reserved a cabana, and had a great time. so much fun. Great people, beautiful island and water. We are considering going back this coming January, if Covid isn't back in full swing. This will be the last year I have the full Fam in tack before my oldest Son graduates college Spring of '21. The resort you stayed out sounds awesome, btw.

Aruba has definitely been on the radar. Some island retreat is ideal for sure. We have no kids so we can afford it. Hell if I just save $200-$300 a month the next 5 years that should cover it plus some. Ha! I appreciate the suggestion!

The first time I saw the Chicago skyline...It was around January 20, 1984 and bitterly cold, with high temps in the single digits (https://www.wunderground.com/history...DW/date/1984-1)
I had taken a bus from KC, alone, to visit the University of Chicago as a prospective student. I remember Lake Michigan being frozen along the shore and that long, long collection of skyscrapers. To that point, the only major league cities I'd ever seen were KC and the Twin Cities.

Another odd moment of amazement was the first time I learned about Gopher and spent several hours hopping from one networked site to another on it. I remember reading about the Joe Montana trade and the first World Trade Center bombing on AOL, so maybe I first used Gopher a little before then, maybe 1992, but I'm not sure.

Bearcat 06-09-2020 12:43 PM

Chiefs/Patriots in the playoffs a couple seasons ago... right after the long review of the punt, Brady throws the pick and then Mahomes throws the touchdown to take the first lead of the game.

It was on my end of the field and the place was just nuts... after the frantic screaming and high-fiving, took a few seconds to soak it in. Despite the outcome, the Chiefs had arrived, competing with the best of the best on a big stage.

Watched the game on TV for the first time a couple nights ago (minus OT, of course) and maybe didn't quite realize how crazy that game was in the 4th quarter watching it live.

Megatron96 06-09-2020 12:50 PM

Been a lot of them. When I did my first solo in an airplane. When I completed my first round-trip as a paid commercial pilot. Seeing Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in concert. Seeing the birth of my first godson. My first game at Arrowhead, which was the DT58 7 sack game. And so on.

Much more recently, when I caught my first trout over 32 inches/14 lbs. I can still remember just about everything about that day, the bite, the hookset, the fight, and finally landing and getting my hands on that monster. On any gear it would've been an epic moment, but to do it on fly fishing gear made it that much more impressive.

The “strawberry moon” the other night was incredible

I was up super late and just sat out in the yard marveling at it from 3-4am, it wasn’t really red but was spectacular nonetheless

But the best part was was the two ULTRA bright stars to its left, perfectly in line with it and almost no other stars were visible

In all my years of stargazing I’ve never seen two stars so bright and perfectly in line with the moon... then even farther to the left, but perfectly in line with the two stars, was what had to be Mars, clearly visible and very red

It was QUITE rad

I got to see him perform at the ACL music festival in Austin 2 years ago. Man, he was great.

That eDave is one groovy ****er. He is hip to the scene. He sure lets his freak flag fly. I bet he is a real gas. I wonder what his bag is? A real gas can you dig it?
