Call Your Shot: Who’s the Chiefs first selection in the 2020 Draft
I’m going with Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU
|
Trade back

I'm going to go with my mock draft pick of Zach Baun.
|
If it’s at 32... Cesar Ruiz or A.J. Terrell.
|
JK Dobbins or Swift, because Mahomes and goddamn it we're not on the 5 year plan the time is now
|
We're going to trade all our picks to move up to take Ruggs and move Hill to RB dammit!

Epenesa or Gladney
|
J.K. Dobbins. They have had two meetings with him and his skill set fits what they do.
|
Trade back. We can get Dobbins in the 2nd.
|
Kenneth Murray falls to us at 32
|
Depends who is on the board.
|
Clyde Edwards Helaire.

Just a gut feeling |
Trading back a few spots and taking the Center Ruiz

Quote:
1. Kristian Fulton 2. Noah Igbinoghene 3. Jaylon Johnson Something tells me it will be a corner either way. |
Kenneth Murray or Patrick Queen
|
Hopefully we get a RB (Dobbins); CB (Terrell); and an ILB (Best Available).
In that order I dont think Dobbins will be available by the time we use our pick in the 2nd round. |
Head: Queen or Murray if either falls to 32.
Heart: Dobbins (want to see Mahomes/Reid make a mockery of NFL defenses). Sleeper: Xavier McKinney. A lot of talk that we need a corner but would not be surprised if they went safety. Thornhill coming off an ACL. Even if Thornhill is 100% healthy could move Mathieu down to the slot and let him play in the box a bit more. Honey Badgers versatility provides depth at both corner and safety with McKinney on board. |

1.) Dont think there is any chance he is there at 32. 2.) If he is on the board at 32 cant turn your card in fast enough. Guy is an absolute player. Heart still pulling for Dobbins however. |

I would prefer a WR, but I imagine it will be a DB. I will guess either Fulton or Mckinney

or with pick 21 YOUR KANSAS CITY CHIEFS select CB Jeffrey Gladney from TCU

It will be a WR, LB or CB.
|
I am no expert like a lot of you guys but I would say best MLB available
|
I want it to be Patrick Queen but I just think he’ll be gone. But shit I’d trade up 4-5 spots to secure him if the opportunity was there. Those types of LBs are just so important nowadays.
|
If we could stack Queen with a 2nd round CB like Bryce Hall or Jeff Gladney (I know, probably won’t be there), that’d put our defense in a position to be very, very good.
But I still would love to see IOL addressed with a sure starter. |
Queen or Gladney.
I don't think the pick will be a shocker - the board will dictate it. There's gonna be a surprising slide or two and Veach will be there to scoop him up. I don't think he trades out because I don't think there will be a rush to get to that pick. Too many unknowns w/ the wonky draft structure so I think confidence levels will be too low for a squad to be willing to give up much more than a 4th to move into that slot and I don't think Veach will move down for a mere 4th rounder. He'll throw away 4th or 5th round picks on flyers or small trade-ups; he clearly doesn't put a ton of value on those last day picks so why would he suddenly reverse his ordinary course and accept one to move back? He'd move if the value is there (3rd or better) but I don't think it will be. I don't think he'll reach for a guy like Terrell or Igbinoghene (who both strike me as the 'CP Climber' types we see each year; guys who likely go far later than we expect and who we've overvalued here based on perceived team need). I don't think Murray plays with the edge they want to see at LB, though I could see a situation where they take him as a 3-down Will and pull their Mike off the field in passing downs. I don't think Gladney will fall, though I think they really like him and I HOPE he will. I think Fulton's in the same boat. Too much depth at IOL for me to be excited about Ruiz in the 1st and I think Veach's trade up/selection of Breeland demonstrates his tendency to 'tier' guys and try to avoid targeting positions where there's remaining depth within his tier. Granted, that would seem to rule out Queen (with Murray, Gay, Harrison and even Brooks as alternative) but I think he'll have Queen in his own tier and this year's class just doesn't have the buzz around the top off-ball LBers that last year's did with White and Bush. And I just cannot convince myself that Veach would be reckless enough to take a RB. Those guys are going to slide big time and there are a LOT of them. EDIT: AJ Epenesa is also a possibility. Lack of standout athleticism could have him sliding a bit and he'd be a great bookend opposite Clark. He's the prototype of those kind of 'grinder' productive lineman that the Patriots made their living on picking at the back of the 1st while everyone else was chasing the high upside Rashan Gary types who turn into bums more often than not. Lot of Rob Ninkovich kind of potential there to just be steady as the sunrise for a long time. |
That goes without saying, I just don't see first round talent when I look at the tape on Ruiz. Doesn't mean he won't go in the first, but it'll be a reach.

Every now and again I look at a CP Darling (or even a mock draft hero) and think "man, I just don't see it..." A lot of guys have become big fans of Ruiz and in the 2nd I'd be okay with him (still wouldn't love him even there), but as a 1st rounder I think that's just way out there. He's not a 1st round caliber player, IMO. |
What about Runyan Jr at G? Curious as his dad played for Andy Reid
|
The more I look at it, the more I think it's going to be someone who unexpectedly "fell."
That seems most likely to be A.J. Epenesa or DeAndre Swift, to me. |
Quote:
There are reasons he might slide that are less critical to us. He fits an obvious short and long-term need. He plays a style of game that should age well (and you know GM's look for guys in the 1st that they'd gladly give a 2nd contract to; that's why I think we won't go RB). Queen/Gladney is probably my 'hope' pick more than anything - neither seem incredibly likely to fall. If weighing who I want to get with who we'll likely have a shot at, Epenesa does seem the most probable outcome. And I'd be pretty happy with that - he could be a big time help here. He complements Clark and would make that DL just not a lot of fun to play against. There's a lot of punch up and down the line at that point. |

Epenesa falling into Friday won't be a shocker.
I think the Penn State DE isn't out of the question either at falling to 32. |
Quote:
Maaaaaaaybe that late 3rd. But if Runyan were named Smith and his dad weren't such a badass, he'd probably be a priority UDFA for most teams with a 5th round upside. |
Quote:
I think there's an outside shot he's there in the 3rd, though not a great one. I also like Malik Harrison a lot at LB. |
Quote:
Gross-Matos has a sky high ceiling but he's that sort of guy who's bust potential is pretty significant. And I don't think he'll ever be as well-rounded even if he does become the kind of pass-rusher his tools say he could be. Epenesa just doesn't do anything poorly and if his athleticism doesn't make him an asset at the next level, he'll still be able to win with hands/strenght. Gross-Matos, OTOH, is an athleticism or bust sort of guy to me. And it's just hard to say that his athleticism is THAT good. He's exactly the kind of high-risk guy (like Burns) that I think Veach would prefer avoid. |
Quote:
A draft where the Chiefs get Epenesa, Dobbins/Akers, and Gay with their first 3 picks is definitely a possibility. It would be absolutely HATED here because no CB and IOL, but the upside of those 3 would be pretty exciting. All would have a reasonable chance of becoming a Pro Bowl-quality performer for KC. |

People will be pissed because there is one obvious hole that wasn’t filled (in this case, two), but Andy will have loaded up on talent and made a strength of the team even stronger. Andy always seems to go with talent over “holes”. I recently looked back at the Patrick Mahomes draft announcement on Facebook. Facebook Chiefs fan was pissed because we drafted “for the future” and passed on Reuben Foster. I highly recommend reading that again if you haven’t LMAO |

I like Aiyuk as a long-term replacement for Watkins a LOT. He's a perfect X in this system, IMO. The odds of him getting to the late 2nd aren't great, but the depth of the WR class might push him down a bit. Every time I run a mock, I'm happier w/ the drafts that don't have a CB early. I just don't like the way the value falls at CB in this draft. I seem to be constantly stuck in the middle on them and feel like I end up taking a guy like Hall about 15 picks before I'd ideally want them or they're gone by the next round. Occasionally I see someone like Troy Pride fall to the late 3rd and am happy to get him there, but more often than not, I see better players on the board when we're up. And RB just doesn't fit my positional value terribly well. It's just not a position I find myself eager to throw capital at even when there are quality players there. |
Quote:
So it'll keep their values high in the draft. I think it's more likely they're both gone than it is that they're both there, but I think there's a good chance one of them slips to us and if so, I hope it's AJ. |

Epenesa is also a guy I could see NE taking.

Relive how pissed off Facebook Chiefs fan was when we drafted Patrick Mahomes instead of Reuben Foster.
https://www.facebook.com/KansasCityC...5197490648373/ These reactions tell me I need to take a chill pill and trust Andy if he swerves in a different direction than we're expecting in the draft. He almost always drafts for talent over holes. |
