Kansas City Chiefs Roster - Postseason
If you look at the current roster for the Chiefs they have 53, which includes Juan Thornhill.
OFFENSE 3) QB Patrick Mahomes, Matt Moore, and Chad Henne PS Kyle Shurmer 4) RB Damien Williams, Darwin Thompson, LeSean McCoy, and Anthony Sherman. PS - Elijah McGuire 5) WR Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson, Mecole Hardman, and Byron Pringle - PS (2) - Gehrig Dieter and Jody Fortson 9) OL Eric Fisher, Andrew Wylie, Austin Reiter, Laurent Duevernay-Tardif, Mitchell Schwartz, Cam Erving, Stefen Wisniewski, Nick Allegretti , and Jackson Barton - PS Ryan Hunter, 3) TE Travis Kelce, Blake Bell, and Deon Yelder - PS Nick Keizer 24 on offense, 6 PS DEFENSE 9) DL - Frank Clark, Terrell Suggs, Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi, Xavier Williams, Khalen Saunders, Tanoh Kpassagnon, Mike Pennel , and Demone Harris- PS (2) Braxton Hoyett and Devarce Lawrence 6) LB - Anthony Hitchens, Darron Lee, Damien Wilson, Reggie Ragland, Ben Niemann, and Dorian ODaniel - PS (1) - Emmanuel Smith 4) S - Tyrann Mathieu, Armani Watts, Jordan Lucas, and Daniel Sorensen. Juan Thornhill is also still listed. 6) CB Kendall Fuller, Charvarius Ward, Bashaud Breeland, Morris Claiborne, Rashad Fenton, and Alex Brown PS (1) Chris Lammons. 25 on defense, 4 PS SPECIAL TEAMS P Dustin Colquitt, K Harrison Butker, LS James Winchester So we have one position to replace when Thornhill gets put on IR. Looking at the roster, safety or DB would be the logical choice, but the Chiefs could possibly go with another WR or RB especially if they could be used on special teams. |
Looking at free agents -
Free Agent DBs Eric Berry T.J. McDonald E.J. Gaines George Iioka Free Agent RBs C.J Anderson Jay Ajayi Doug Martin Alex Collins Free Agent LBs Zach Brown Nick Perry Brandon Marshall Mason Foster No, this isn't a sign Eric Berry thread, only listing some of the free agents out there. |
For playoffs, can teams sign players from other teams Practice Squad rosters?
If you look at teams out of playoffs, they no longer have practice squad players, but they have been signing those players to Futures contracts. |
Not sure of rules on raiding Practice squad players...
CB Brian Allen on Seattle Seahawks PS 6’3”, 215, 2017, 5th round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Brian played college ball at Utah. Good athlete, runs 4.43 40, and has 34 inch arms. CB Tremon Smith on Philadelphia Eagles PS 6’0” 190 2018 6th round pick of Kansas City Chiefs. Tremon played college ball at Central Arkansas. Runs a 4.43 40. Used primarily as a return man in NFL. S Shalom Luani on Houston Texans PS 6’0” 201 2018 7th round pick of Oakland Raiders Shalom played college football at Washington State. Plays forward for American Samoa. |
I think probably we move up a player from our practice squad.
|
If we need a DB then maybe Chris Lammons.
If we need a RB then Elijah McGuire. Not sure we really need to do that yet as long as another team does not try to sign McGuire. If I was betting, I think Gehrig Dieter will be the player we see the Chiefs bring up. |
I feel like I'm reading text messages from someone

Sorry...I guess I was thinking it through and trying to determine who the new player addition might be.
I think this would be a pretty strange group of text messages though. I was wondering why the Chiefs had not already put Juan Thornhill on IR. What advantage is there in waiting? Then I was thinking, what are the NFL rules on adding players to your roster? Practice squads no longer exit for 20 NFL teams after the regular NFL season. Actual NFL free agent players are pretty slim pickings at this time of year. I did find a rule that prevents a team from picking up a practice squad player from a team you are about to play. It is a 5 day rule and it bumps to 9 days if you are on bye, which I guess technically Kansas City is. If KC did this, they would have to guess the team they might be playing. |
Also when I posted the roster I was hoping to see or have someone point out any glaring weakness that needed to be filled.
|
I'd love to see Jody Fortson eventually. Dude's a monster and played pretty well in the preseason.
|
You know it’s going to be Dieter.

Also saw in looking at rules, that the practice squad players on winning post season teams, keep getting paid, $8,000 per week.

Juan Thornhill (DB) placed on Injured Reserve; Ryan Hunter (G) signed to 53-man roster |
Interesting move.
I thought a DB or Dieter for special teams. I did not think OL. |
Interesting thread. Would read again.

Yikes Thats scary. |
I assume that the move to put Hunter on the active roster was a move to keep other teams from snatching him. I believe that teams out of the playoffs are now able to sign player's to future contracts. Maybe someone was trying to sign Hunter, so the Chiefs used Thornhill's roster spot figuring that whoever they brought up was going to be inactive on gamedays anyway? I see no there reason to bring him up. Question is, was he worth protecting? Do they believe that he will be developed and ready to contribute next season?
