Chiefs gear for Patriots game mistakenly sent to NJ

This is not good.

Quote:

Adam Schefter
ESPN Senior Writer

An equipment container that contained some of the Chiefs' shoulder pads, helmets and footballs was not unloaded on Saturday and instead accidentally made its way to Newark, New Jersey where it now is being rushed back to Boston in time for Sunday's 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff between Kansas City and the New England Patriots, per league sources.

It was roughly 35 players' bags, according to a source.

Kansas City is responsible, not the Patriots or the league. The Chiefs did not take the equipment off the plane.

"I never heard that before" said one source.

The Chiefs' left-behind equipment is expected to arrive between 3 and 3:30 p.m. ET, in time for Sunday's kickoff. It the Chiefs didn't have the equipment by the the time the game started they would have to forfeit, per a source.

How much it impacts certain players that could be missing helmets or shoulder pads in warm-ups is uncertain. But the Chiefs now are doing what they can to rectify the situation.

Probably a little extreme. He’d just have to find another job if he got fired.

Wouldn’t they or shouldn’t have they discovered this yesterday? I thought they spend saturdays getting the locker room ready the night before the game.

They don't need to dress until 45 minutes before game time anyway. Hopefully no big deal.

Hammock Parties 12-08-2019 01:13 PM

OK so assuming the Chiefs are flying the gear in....it's a 35-45 minute flight from Newark, NJ to Foxboro, MA...

And the drive to the Stadium from nearby airports is about a half hour.

NJChiefsFan 12-08-2019 01:15 PM

How do planes take off with stuff on them from a previous flight? I guess cause charter flights are different? It's not like a school bus when a kid leaves their shirt on the bus and later that day the driver finds it.

ptlyon 12-08-2019 01:15 PM

"WHO THE **** HAS MY JOCK?"

rtmike 12-08-2019 01:15 PM

So the plane left...knowing it had extra cargo right?

RunKC 12-08-2019 01:16 PM

This should have been settled yesterday. A rush flight should have been booked for first thing this morning

I flew through Boston this summer and the idiot ground crew there put our luggage out for baggage claim instead of putting it on our next flight. I spent the next 5 days in Europe fighting with those idiots and their dumb ass accents trying to get our bags.

Somebody has to get fired.

-King- 12-08-2019 01:30 PM

So let's say it had flown to the west coast or something and they couldn't get it on time. Would the chiefs just go to every sports store in the NE and try to buy as many shoulder pads and red helmets as possible? Or would they really take the forfeit?

I just can’t believe the NFL would actually have a team forfeit for just about any reason. How pissed would the fans who paid be, CBS etc...No home team is just going to give up a game of profits for a jersey issue. They would find some other workaround even if they had to wear the pats practice jerseys or something. I’d imagine they would just push the game to MNF if all else had failed.

It's not just them, it's Boston sports as a whole. The Cards had hotel issues prior to Game 1 in 2004 and the Bruins crew tried to manipulate the icing machine hours before Game 7 this year. Cheating is in their blood.

Did you read the ****ing report... They couldn't unload until this morning as there was Highschool games at foxboro last night.

This is how it works... The flight lands, equipment containers are moved off the plane by local crews and transported by local crews to Foxboro... The equipment people wouldn't know until they were able to unpack the gear at the stadium, which they did.

Do you think ground crews just leave giant containers on planes that are chartered... This was incompetence or cheating, but neither by the Chiefs.
