MCU Meta Discussion
The various movies obviously deserve their own threads once things actually start moving on them, but it seems like we should have a place just for general discussion about what they're planning. So here ya go.
|
And now the news that inspired the thread...

The God of Thunder will be returning for a fourth entry in the #MCU and once again @TaikaWaititi will be helming the project. Doesn't look like there's an actual release date pinned down yet, but this article thinks it'll likely be 2021ish.

New Ghost Rider series announced for Hulu...so it might be good, given that it is not PG enough for Disney plus:

Now, will Thor 4 be before or after Guardians 3? I'm assuming after, which means Thor will likely survive whatever they find in space (spoilers, asshole). |
I mean didn't Thor give Asgard's fate to Valkyrie? Isn't she going to be the next Thor, eventually?
|
Quote:
I wouldn't think so. Her powers, etc. aren't at all like Thor's. She's taking over leadership of the Asgardians, but that doesn't mean she becomes Thor in some manner. Let's face it, actual leaders are typically bogged down in administrative bullshit and unable to spend much time "superheroing", so to speak. Plus, the direction Chris Hemsworth wanted to take Thor in -- see Ragnarok -- fits much better into GoG than it did any other setting really, so it's easy to see how he has to leave Earth, etc. Ragnarok was a seriously great movie. Tons of fun. I'm looking forward to Thor4, Gog3, and whatever else they do with his character. Losing Loki seriously sucked though. His character arc is in many ways complete, so it will be interesting to see where they go from here with him. |
Hol up now
Loki (A Loki, anyway) escaped confinement after the original Avengers movie by using the Tesseract to portal out to who knows where. I wouldn't write off Loki "just" yet. |
Theory: the next Avengers-like event will be a space crossover with Thor, GOTG, Captain Marvel (and Fury), and the Eternals. Maybe a take on Annihilation, now that they have Annihilus back.
|
Since they introduced time travel. I am guessing Kang.
2nd guess would be Galactus. |

Dr Strange and Scarlett Witch in a movie sounds very intriguing.

Here's a visual of all that's coming. (The bottom two rows were mentioned in passing but won't be until after 2021.)

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wanda Vision, Loki, and Hawkeye will all be TV series exclusively on Disney +.

And not to take this down some type of SJW/Wokeness hole, but is it really necessary to have Jane Foster become Thor? I know she did it in the comics, but in the MCU it feels cheapened somehow after Cap could wield Mjolnir. Odin is out the ether somewhere screaming out "YOU CAN WEILD THE HAMMER AND YOU CAN WEILD THE HAMMER WHO ELSE WANTS TO WIELD THE HAMMER????"
Spare me Lady Thor and give me Beta Ray Bill. |

Here's a good breakdown of what's to come in Phase 4.

Beta Ray Bill fits nicely in the Galactic turn they are taking at Marvel... I can't imagine it will be long before we see him. On the plus side...
Spoiler!
|
As for Blade... I was really hoping they would bring Snipes back and do a story line where he teaches his daughter to take up his trade. That would have fit in nicely with the girl power movement that is coming up.
I like Ali as an actor and he has the seriousness to pull it off. I don't know if he is even remotely athletic enough to pull off the role. At the risk of making myself feel old but... he feels too old to be playing a "new" Blade. |
The big question for the new Thor movie is how are they going to bring the hammer back? Cap returned it to the past. So unless a new one is forged, this could very well be a multiverse type situation when it is in an alternate universe.
|
I'm no type nearly as excited for these next phases as I was the previous ones.
.. but that could all change if they knock X Men and Blade out of the park. |

Speaking of, I feel pretty positive that we will see Thanos again, particularly with the Doctor Strange Multiverse movie. Plus the Loki series was confirmed to be the Loki that escaped with the Tesseract after getting his ass beat by Hulk in the original Avengers, so they're already dabbling in alternate universe versions of the characters. |
No one read Mighty Thor run huh? Jane Foster being a badass is not new.
One of the best Thor runs by Jason Aaron imo but all of his Thor has been awesome I'm very excited for the new movies. |
Jane Foster taking over and Valkyrie is LGBTQ. Feels like Captain Marvel all over again

I'm sorry but Jane Foster needed to die with Thor 2. Bringing back Natalie Portman and finding some crazy way to give her the powers of Thor is a stretch. This isn't Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman, it's Gwenyth Paltrow being skilled all of a sudden in an Iron Man suit to take down Thanos kind of a stretch.
Sad that they've announced that Mahershala Ali as Blade won't be apart of Phase 4. That casting announcement was the best by far. |

So Valkyrie* is potentially going to have a makeout session with Jane Thor?
https://media.tenor.co/images/30ad55...eff9e3c75c/raw *What is Valkyrie's real name? Valkyrie is what she did and was, not what she was named, right? |
So instead of Valk taking on the new mantle of Thor she is being used as a platform for LGBTQRS movement? Smh. Poor Tessa. They'll use her then throw her away when they are done.

And as far as I know, Larson has made it clear where her political ideologies stand while I'm not so sure Tessa has done the same. Which was my point. |
I personally welcome all the irrational rage over Jane Thor.
“She’s too old!” Chadwick Bozeman is older. “Why aren’t they creating new characters?” Falcon is the new Captain America. Cannot ****ing wait. |

Look, I'm glad they finally got to endgame. I kept watching to see the meta story wrap up. I'm burned out AF on super hero movies. Especially the over produced repetitive Marvel products. |

I enjoyed watching that. Made me wonder if his conclusions were all predetermined by the writers beforehand, or if it the Cap trilogy just grew into that narrative and story over time. Either way, great observations.

That being said, as we move this thing further into space, I have some concerns, albeit with no historical basis. Looking back over all the properties, my favorite ones deal with humans. Cap, IM, Hawkeye, etc. What resonates with me is the more grounded storylines. Those don't really come through as heavily in the space stuff. I mean, they've done really well (See Rocket's ridiculously good emoting), but I have concerns nonetheless. But like I've said, they've earned the rope to hang themselves with. |
I'm a big Galactus/Surfer nerd. Found this video with some interesting ideas about how Marvel might introduce both going forward.....

The MCU has ended. Everything else now is just the Wokeverse.

I wouldn't be so sure. Thor, Cap, and Stark were really the most popular characters, that much is true.
But Spider-Man is a money maker, and Captain Marvel and Black Panther both destroyed the box office more than any stand alone Thor, Cap, or Stark movie -- look at the numbers. Those three are clearly the headliners for the next phase, JPB's many tears be damned. |
Quote:
Going to the Wokeverse may work out. I doubt it, but it's possible. I do know that it's not working with Star Wars, and that a lot of Marvel fans want no part of what's happening. |
Quote:
LMAO |
Quote:
T'Challa and Captain Marvel have the two biggest box office returns for solo movies. (I probably don't need to sell you on Spider-Man.) |
Quote:
They shouldn't even try to do Thanos again. It's already been done. The trick is going to be to get that popularity doing something different. People in general aren't all that good at change... I mean, there's a reason there's so many remakes and not that much new content. And it ain't cause there aren't great new ideas and scripts out there. |
Quote:
Hell, Star Wars 7 made huge gate, too. It hasn't been sustained, though, and that's the issue with franchises. |
Box office for episode 9 will definitely be interesting to watch.
|
Quote:
You need to wrap your head around the fact that despite the fact you really do not like the actress, the character, the movie, and/or nonwhitedudes, she’s super popular right now and, whatever her next box office return is, it’s likely to be bigger than every Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man movie again. Stop making excuses for it. |
Quote:
Ant-man wasn't a lead up movie. It wasn't even one of the third phase MCU movies. It sure as heck was not one of the famous "firsts". Captain Marvel was Grrrl Power! in the MCU, just as Black Panther the first black lead. |
