Well shit. Same as it ever was.
|
Well OK then.
Lets get behind this guy. GOOOO SPAAGS!!! |
Yikes.
Mahomes on the last year of his rookie deal -- and we're radically changing defensive schemes. 2019 is looking to be a whole lot like 2018 was. Mahomes slaughtering people and our defense getting slaughtered in return. |
Dammit

Safe and boring. Boring and safe.

Mahomes is signed through 2020 and has an option for 2021. |

ROFL.....Direckshun ****s up again.
|
Page 1 and the hot takes are that it’s too radical and that it’s too safe.
God I love CP. |

There's no place to go but up. Instituting the 4-3 might turn Hitchens into a dramatically more effective player, and Chris Jones is going to WRECK SHIT at 3-tech. |

Dangit. I was hoping for a younger guy.

We needed someone who can get us to mediocre. Mahomes will do the rest.
Good hire. |
You had to figure that Andy would hire a buddy. At least Britt's job is safe. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps almost all of our current Defensive coaches. That will make Andy really happy.
I hope Spagnuolo doesn't suck. |
As long as our defense can get a stop or two late - I don't care how bad they get slaughtered early.
Bob's defense was pretty good in the first Q, then got terrible late - as he refused to make adjustments, refused to get aggressive when we either need a stop or a bomb is ok because we get the ball back. And maybe his defense is impossible to execute when you're gassed or something. Literally we just need a competent DC with some creativity, willingness to adjust in game, and balls when called for. IMO |
Hello darkness, my old friend...
|
He has a proven track record of improving defenses. Our personnel is better suited at 4-3.
Good hire |
I wonder what, if any, changes will be made to the defensive staff.
|
****. I guess I’ll be arguing with Chiefzilla the next six years as Spags will probably fail to deliver. He’ll be the 43 version of Sutton bend but don’t break.

Tanoh could be very good in a 4-3. |

Spags is a good hire. He may also give us an inside track to Landon Collins!!
Not a sexy hire but a good one. |
I harassed Danan Hughes about the whole 3-4 or 4-3 thing a few weeks ago.
He pointed out it's almost irrelevant considering how often you come across an opponent who operates out of the spread. |
Gunther Cunningham to Reid’s Greg Robinson.
|
They say Sutton was terrible but he’s never been the 32 ranked defense. Spags on the other hand.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Steve Spagnuolo Defenses the last 7 years have ranked:<br>29<br>19<br>22<br>32<br>32<br>10<br>31</p>— Mike (@SpaceWxMike) <a href="https://twitter.com/SpaceWxMike/status/1088566687878864896?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 24, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

I’m sure taking a year off was good for Spags.
He’s been in some shitty situations, had time to reflect/grow from an outside perspective, and now he’s coming to a team with more pass rushing talent than any he’s been apart of in a decade. He’s also going to have a bunch of rookie and sophomore talent on that side of the ball to groom. |

If he couldn't beat tackles in a 3-4 he ain't doing it in a 4-3. Backup at best. |
Well....Reid gets to look at a Superbowl ring up close now on a daily basis.

I have done some internet research and am now an absolute expert on whether this will work or not.
|
Why do idiots think that switching to a 4-3 is going to make 2019 a wasted year? It’s not that complicated.
Again, the Chargers did this from 2016 to 2017 and got much better. It’s not about scheme, it’s matching the players you have to the right scheme. Right now, ours fit a 4-3 better than a 3-4 and it’s also easier to find college players out of a 4-3. |
Houston,Williams,Nnadi,Jones,Hitchens,O'Daniels should all fit in a 4-3 scheme.
|
Just a terrible terrible hire.

Reid doesn’t want to win a super bowl. Hell Bieneimy may be Head Coach after this year
|
What would our starters look like in a base 4-3? (if this has been discussed/posted somewhere else - my bad)

Andy is always going to choose “his guys”. It’s who he is, and why we let two people go who competed for “executives of the year”
We will always have to hope that Mahomes can help Andy overcome his stubbornness. Just get us into the Top 20, Spags. |
Well, there is a positive to this...
Spagnuolo's wife hates Tom Brady and she likes to bake cookies. Perhaps that influenced Reid? (And NO, I am not joking, google it) |
He's not Sutton. Let's roll.
|
Speaks - Nnadi - Jones - Houston
DOD - ??? - Hitchens Ward - Berry - Watts/Lucas - Fuller |
This is the worst thing ever! Probably!!
LMAO... the initial reactions around here..... |
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">DVOA of defenses that Spagnuolo has DC'd are as follows... 13th, 8th, 32nd, 30th, 2nd, and 24th.</p>— Seth Keysor (@RealMNchiefsfan) <a href="https://twitter.com/RealMNchiefsfan/status/1088570023566893056?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 24, 2019</a></blockquote>

Some of you guys are being ****ing idiots with the “But we have to get young and hungry if we want good coaching!”
Remember when our fat **** coach in his 60s reinvented the wheel for offensive football in the NFL with a unique QB and college spread concepts? Yeah, it was this ****ing year. Hell, he did it with Alex too. Old doesn’t mean anything. All it means is he’s old. That’s it. |
Quote:
Jones will be a 3-tech Williams and Nnadi will be DT Hitchens will be a MLB O'Daniel will be OLB (weakside probably) |
Quote:
I think they'll draft a SLB. DOD will probably compete with someone for the WLB spot. |

Chiefs hired ex-Giants DC Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator.
The cocoon hire to end all cocoon hires, Spags should at least be an improvement on Bob Sutton. Spagnuolo occasionally oversaw fearsome defenses with the Giants. Personnel was sometimes an issue the second time around. Spagnuolo began his NFL coaching career under Andy Reid in Philadelphia. If the bar is merely to be better than Sutton, Spags will clear it. Personnel issues and the Chiefs' style of play means the defense will almost certainly still give up a boatload of points in 2019. www.rotoworld.com |
JFC. Chicken-fookin-Littles up in here.
Anyone, repeat, A-N-Y-O-N-E is better than Bob Sutton. It was long overdue. Fresh voice, fresh take, new schemes. Justin Houston staring at the back of his locker after the AFC Championship loss said “we ain’t goin anywhere with this mother****er...” That defense last year was reeruned and undisciplined. This is a good thing. Get on board with it, or get run over. |
The ink hasn’t even dried yet and some people are already shitting on this guy. I would have settled for a parking cone over Sutton so I’ll give him a shot before I crucify him.
|

If so, gonna need another safety too. |
I hate it, I think our defense will give up just about the same number next year but with half as many sacks.

We don’t have Smith anymore |

A cardboard cutout of Dick Butkus would be better than Sutton. We're looking up.
|
As long as we're switching to a 4-3.......I'm fine with it.

Now we have "anybody but Sutton" and it's ****ing Chicken Little. |

Brett keeps his job. Is a DC change going to make these women tackle like real men??? |
meh..whatever. I am not surprised though because of his relationship with Reid and his ability to not have to babysit him.
Not jumping up and down excited about it so I will take a wait and see approach. He has to be better than Sutton |
