why not?

Is that a new Magneto ?

Not sure i like the new Charles

Are these just younger versions?

DJ's left nut 09-27-2018 09:26 AM

The 'new' X-Men universe is just so damn good.

I think they misfired a bit in Apocalypse but the casting and characters are still just outstanding.

Sadly, this cast is starting to either age out or just get a little too damn famous so it will probably crater right about the time the Avengers universe does, but so long as Fassbender and McAvoy are in these, each one of them has a chance to be outstanding.

This. I've loved the new X-men movies. Apocalypse was meh but it wasn't ****ing horrible. I'm hoping that they can keep some of the cast if they integrate them into the MCU.

And the Dark Phoenix saga happened right around the time I was reading comics so I've always thought it was one of the best X-Men stories.

I guess there are multiple earths and dimensions and stuff now so I have no idea about anything that happened after the early 90s, but this is all right in my wheelhouse so I'm pretty damn excited to see it.

I'm still pissed that Gambit hasn't been introduced yet. He was my favorite character back when everyone loved Wolverine.

He popped up in a Wolverine movie. Maybe the really terrible one.

Taylor Kitsch played him, IIRC. Yeah, he's an interesting character but he's also such a tonal shift. And him and quicksilver are a bit of a redundancy in terms of lightening the mood.

I just don't think they need him or could use him well without the movie feeling overstuffed.

Sure-Oz 09-27-2018 10:40 AM

Looks like it may be decent.

That Gambit was alright but it was in that shitty universe where Deadpool couldn't talk. **** that noise.

The Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult movies.

I think those 4 are the exclusive through-put; they've been in each of them. And theoretically "Age of Future Past" did the same soft reboot for the previous movies (the Patrick Stewart ones) that the Chris Pine Star Trek reboot did with their 'Kelvin Timeline'.

So Jean hasn't dropped a lake on Cyclops in this universe, etc....

Gotcha. I haven't really watched the latest X-Men movies in their entirety (just catching them here and there as background chatter while i eat) and wasn't sure on their sequencing either. I'll check them out.

I loved the first 2 but HATED Apocalypse. I'm sure I'll see it again but refused to re-watch since the theaters. The Apocalypse character was a shell of himself in the comics, and didn't seem like the movie overall really accomplished anything.

I'm pretty sure Psylocke jump-started puberty for me so I have a bit of a blind spot for any movie that puts Olivia Munn in that costume and parades her around for a couple of hours...

Gravedigger 09-28-2018 09:52 AM

I like the new cast, they're not the finest actors in the world, but McAvoy and Fassbender hold them up. They're not going to be used anymore, because they already introduced Wolverine in DoFP, which is a shame imo. The best part is they haven't messed up Cyclops yet, so as long as Tye Sheridan is given a good role in this one then I'll be pleased. It looks like they're going to kill Jennifer Lawrence off, which needed to happen imo.

Bowser 09-28-2018 04:44 PM

This is just going to be a pissed off and uber powerful Jean Grey ala X-Men 3, isn't it? That sucks, because I would love to see how they could incorporate the actual Phoenix Force into this arm of the MCU (and maybe use it as a bridge to the Avengers MCU and related cosmic entities when the Marvel universe is finally together on the big screen).

Deberg_1990 09-28-2018 05:01 PM

FOX just bumped this from Feb to June 7th.

They also bumped Alita Battle Angel into the Feb slot this once held

ThaVirus 09-28-2018 06:33 PM

Apocalypse was always going to be a tough villain to translate from the comics. He doesn't have much depth, his powers are weird, and he uses alien tech.

But if the MCU could make Thanos interesting, Fox should have been able to do the same with Apoc.. and they failed miserably.

Yeah. Munn is a dime. I have a serious thing for Sophie Turner too. She trips my trigger.

Apocalypse would have been all timer 10 years ago. But today it seems derivative these days. It may be a victim of overexposure.

I'd bet this does worse than whatever Venom finishes with.

I use to be a huge X-Men fan but after the movies went to garbage and Marvel Comix just abandoned them they're like a 1st cousin I haven't seen in 10 years...

Apocalypse - Terrible movie. Probably one of the worst X-Men movie's ever made and that is saying something. Seriously what the hell happened that made them make this abortion of a movie. Single handily killed a great X-Men franchise reboot. If Dark Phoenix doesn't knock it out of the park then its time to call it quits and let Marvel redo the X-Men

and now Dark Phoenix - We shall see but don't really have high hopes.

Woah now, I can't back that play.

The Last Stand is one of the most mind-numbingly awful movies I have ever seen. I'm not convinced you could make a worse movie on purpose. There's literally not a single decision made in that entire movie that I think actually worked.

Technically I said one of the worst. :D

It has been quite a while since I have seen The Last Stand and I might be a little bias. Age of Apocalypse was by far my favorite X-Men story line and they just butchered it.

Apocalypse looked like a cartoon villain from an 80's superhero movie. They completely shit on the story of Archangel and his character. Honestly, there is so many things wrong with this movie that I could bitch for an entire page.

Off the top of my head. 3 worst X-Men Films of all time

1. Age of Apocalypse
2. The Last Stand
3. Wolverine Origins (Seriously how do you screw Deadpool up so bad)

I might see it....the last one was disappointing. Would this be the last one since they are merging I'm guessing.

Gravedigger 02-28-2019 06:52 PM

It’s an X-men movie so I’ll be seeing it. Even though I can pretty much make out the entire plot from the trailers, even though it looks all sadness and no joy, even though Marvel is scratching the timeline and cast from these films, I’ll still go see it early afternoon Matinee.

Bowser 02-28-2019 09:49 PM

Are they actually going to use the entity of the Phoenix Force here? The space shots made me think so.

And is Jessica Chastain the White Queen?

DJ's left nut 03-01-2019 12:22 PM

Sophie Turner was just such a terrible choice. She was awful in Apocalypse and now she has to somehow carry this movie.

There's no way she has the chops for it.

She is good eye candy but yeah, her acting skills are a little to be desired.

I heard JL doesn't like the make up at all... wouldn't be shocked of they lightened it up for her.

Sure-Oz 03-03-2019 02:12 AM

After rewatching the trailer I'm warming up to it. Hopefully it's good. The trailer music was pretty epic. Same people they did the Aquaman final trailer music.

Rail her? Sure!

Jamie 04-17-2019 03:33 PM

I keep hoping they cancel this and dump it on Disney+ or something. Even if it's good it's a dead end, all it does is extend the wait for the inevitable MCU reboot. And it kind of burns Dark Phoenix for future use in the MCU.

Fish 04-17-2019 03:40 PM

This trailer was certainly better. But yeah... I have my doubts...

Read a review that it's just another X-Men movie, nothing special. Think I'll wait for it to hit TNT in 6 months.

Gravedigger 06-05-2019 09:07 AM

We still have tickets for Saturday to see it. At best I imagine it's a 50/50 movie where parts of it sucked and parts of it were good. At worst it's slightly under The Last Stand according to most critics just without the plot which I'll still go see just to see the X-Men fight sequences.

Deberg_1990 06-05-2019 11:14 AM

Always been an inconsistent franchise. Nothing new

Sure-Oz 06-05-2019 11:33 AM

I'll see it like I did apocalypse...on a flight that has it as an entertainment option. Days of Future past imo is the last fox X-Men movie ..of course Logan is a perfect end too

Amnorix 06-05-2019 12:45 PM

Sorry to hear, but not surprised:

1. Sophie Turner is nice eye candy, and her acting clearly and noticeably improved over the course of GoT, but she really just doesn't have enough "IT" factor to carry a movie as the main star IMHO.

2. The "Phoenix loses control and kills everything with her amazing unbelievable uncontrollable god-like powers" is kinda ****ing boring anyway. If you want it to be impactful, then you MUST build up the character quite a bit in advance to generate enough interest for her turning heel to be meaningful. They haven't come close to doing that.

3. They literally ALREADY DID THIS MOVIE. And it flat out sucked. Maybe there's a new spin on it here, but seriously you better have some meaningful difference between the primary plot here and the original X-Men 3, which flat out sucked DESPITE having more invested in the relationship between Jean and Wolverine.

Amnorix 06-05-2019 12:46 PM

I'm not a comic book reader, so I have a different take than you guys sometimes. On Apocalypse, which everything thinks was meh to flat out terrible -- I also though ti was meh overall, but I though the intro scene, in ancient Egypt, when Apocalypse gets trapped, was pretty awesome. Maybe it was just the special effects, but I really liked it.

Did even those who hated the movie at least like that scene, or am I just off on my own little reservation here?

I think you are right. That was the very best part of the movie.

I just went ahead and Wikipediad the story because try as I might, and as much as I've liked the re-booted universe, I just cannot convince myself that I want to see this movie.

Apocalypse was so bad and they've told this exact same !@#$ing story in a previously failed movie.

Sophie Turner has evolved into an All-World beauty - the kind that if she were to smile at you, you would feel like you just took a straight kick to the gut. I have no idea how a Jonas brother landed that, but whatever.

She's been pretty wooden as an actor, but she seemed to grow these last couple/few seasons on GoT. I'm not expecting mad acting range from her in this movie, but we'll see. My hopes aren't quite as high for this film as they once were.

Disagree. Apocalypse and the Dark Phoenix saga are great stories to tell if done right, but that's the problem right there. Apocalypse was not done right, and I have my concerns about this one being done properly. They kind of suffer from GoT syndrome - there's just too much material to get into a two hour movie.

Why are they great stories to tell exactly?

Also I think Marvel needs to take a break from stories on cosmic scales and have more grounded stories. We need a break from end of the world stuff all the time.

Because the source material is among the most popular comic stories of all time.

Same reason Infinity War was a great story for the Avengers.

The problem is that Fox has been ****ing up X-men from the first movie they made. They started with the most popular comic book property in HISTORY botched it so badly it's hard to believe. From the get go they didn't understand the character's motivations, their personalities, the dynamics between them. All of that was abandoned and Singer and Kinberg just did whatever the **** they wanted. There's no investment in the characters. Their personalities change between movies. Fox ****ing sucks for botching this, and they've sucked for 20 years at it.

I think the Dark Tower movie was more faithful to the source material than Fox's X-men series. The only redeeming thing to come out of it was Deadpool, because the idiots behind the X-men series weren't involved.

Bowser 06-07-2019 12:30 PM

Yeah, what WhiteWhale said.

They are iconic storylines specific to the X-Men, but Fox has fumble ****ed the X-Men so hard (with the exception of maybe three of the films, plus Olivia Munn dressed up in the Psylocke costume - daaamn) that they blew a prime opportunity to show a couple of favorite stories properly.

AS I pointed out, they already did a Dark Tower movie.

I'm sure fans of the book would still like to see the ACTUAL story get some kind of adaption.

It's kinda like that. NOw they botched it twice and from what I'm hearing this thing makes Wolverine Origins look good by comparison.

Even the best movies, while functioning as above average actions films, are utter failures as adaptions. Certain Castings were awesome (Jackman, Stewart, and McClellan were home runs with casting)

They just do whatever the **** they want and show no reverence to the characters or materials.

I mean Claremont's era is a ****ing gold-mine. You could have a TV show run 10 seasons with 20 episodes per season with the amount of quality material he gave them to fish from.

They just do whatever the **** they want and show no reverence to the characters or materials.

I mean Claremont's era is a ****ing gold-mine. You could have a TV show run 10 seasons with 20 episodes per season with the amount of quality material he gave them to fish from.

****ing preach, my man. Agreed 101%.

So... yeah. The end is nigh. There's no more sure way to kill a franchise.

that's enough preaching for today

So you believe Marvel movies need to be about sagas then? I don't necessarily agree.

So Storm and Rogue don't have any iconic storylines? That's disappointing. But maybe you don't need iconic. You just need faithful adaptations to the characters.

This just looks so ****ing bad imo. And the reviews have been flat out brutal . Hard Pass.

Oh well , at least Wolverine got a proper send off with Logan (damn I loved that film).

Lol, whatever. Sure, Storm and Rogue have great stories, but this shit is better. Deal with it.

Have the movies told the story well? If not, why bother? Move on to something safer. I'm just being practical.

I didn't say that, so obviously there's no reason for you to assume it. Actually nothing I said even vaguely insinuates that. Where did you get that from?

The failure to adapt the characters properly is the primary thing I'm complaining about.

Storm and Rogue in particular were totally botched in the film universe.

The movies haven't told any story well. Nor have they adapted the characters accurately. Rogue, Iceman, Kitty Pryde, Storm, Cyclops... they've utterly botched all of them. Shit, we can't even GET a decent Gambit. WTF?

That's the far bigger problem.

You can't grow a healthy tree from poison soil.
