New Star Wars TV & Film Repository
There are so many new Star Wars projects that are being announced that I figured it was time to start a thread. I'll update accordingly.
--- Today, it was announced that Jon Favreau will Executive Produce and Write a new Star Wars Live Action series set for Disney's new Streaming Service. http://www.starwars.com/news/jon-fav...ar-wars-series March 8, 2018 JON FAVREAU TO EXECUTIVE PRODUCE AND WRITE LIVE-ACTION STAR WARS SERIES. THE DIRECTOR OF IRON MAN AND THE JUNGLE BOOK WILL HELM THE SERIES FOR DISNEY’S NEW DIRECT-TO-CONSUMER PLATFORM. Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau has signed on to executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s new direct-to-consumer platform. Favreau is no stranger to the Star Wars galaxy having played roles in both the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story. “I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.” Favreau is thrilled to be returning to the Star Wars galaxy: “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.” Disney’s collaborations with Favreau extend back a decade, when he helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe as director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and as an executive producer of the Iron Man and Avengers films for Marvel Studios. For Disney, he directed and produced the massively successful The Jungle Book, which won an Academy Award for its groundbreaking visual effects. He is currently in production on Disney’s highly anticipated reimagining of The Lion King, set for release in 2019. The untitled Star Wars live-action series does not yet have a release date. ---- http://www.starwars.com/news/game-of...tar-wars-films ILMS // FEBRUARY 6, 2018 GAME OF THRONES CREATORS DAVID BENIOFF AND D.B. WEISS TO WRITE AND PRODUCE A NEW SERIES OF STAR WARS FILMS David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are going from Winterfell to a galaxy far, far away. It was announced today that Benioff and Weiss, creators of the smash-hit, Emmy Award-winning television series Game of Thrones, will write and produce a new series of Star Wars films. These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. “David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.” “In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.” No release dates have been set for the new films, and there have (thankfully) been no sightings of White Walkers around Lucasfilm. ----- http://www.starwars.com/news/rian-jo...r-wars-trilogy LUCASFILM // NOVEMBER 9, 2017 RIAN JOHNSON, WRITER-DIRECTOR OF STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, TO CREATE ALL-NEW STAR WARS TRILOGY For director Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was just the beginning of his journey in a galaxy far, far away. Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Johnson will create a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which he is also set to write and direct, with longtime collaborator Ram Bergman onboard to produce. As writer-director of The Last Jedi, Johnson conceived and realized a powerful film of which Lucasfilm and Disney are immensely proud. In shepherding this new trilogy, which is separate from the episodic Skywalker saga, Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored. “We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.” “We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi,” Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. “Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.” Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in U.S. theaters on Dec. 15, 2017. No release dates have been set for the new films, and no porgs were available for comment. |
Wow, Harrison.

I’m surprised they didn’t nuke Rian’s trilogy.

First off, he doesn't have a story, doesn't know the time period, doesn't have a setting and doesn't have any characters. It's quite possible that once he turns in a general outline, it's tossed. Hell, it might get tossed if he turns in a shitty logline. |
I did not see this one coming

Am I crazy, or is that Ahsoka and Sabine?

That actually brought a tear to my eye.
CAN'T WAIT! |
More damage control.
|
Not likely to be damage control. It had to have been in production before TLJ or Solo hit theaters. They were (not) talking about a secret animated project before Rebels ended.

Adria Arjona has joined the cast of the Cassian Andor led Rogue One Prequel.
She's starred in Pacific Rim Uprising, 6 Underground and Triple Frontier. If this series is anything akin to Rogue One in terms of tonality, and I have no reason to believe that it won't, I'll be extremely stoked once the first episode is ready to air. |

Hahah. This sounds awesome! The LEGO Star Wars holiday special!
https://www.starwars.com/news/the-le...-plus-announce LEARN THE TRUE MEANING OF LIFE DAY WITH A FESTIVE CELEBRATION OF THE ENTIRE SKYWALKER SAGA IN THE CHARMING LEGO STYLE DEBUTING NOVEMBER 17. It’s the most wonderful time of the year on Kashyyyk, and LEGO Star Wars fans are invited to journey back to Chewbacca’s homeworld for a Wookiee-sized celebration of the galaxy’s most cheerful and magical holiday — Life Day! This November, The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, — which premieres on Life Day, November 17, 2020 on Disney+, — will reunite Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Rose and all your favorite droids, from R2-D2 to BB-8, for a joyous feast on Life Day, the holiday first introduced in 1978’s Star Wars Holiday Special. The new LEGO special is the first to debut on the streaming platform and will continue the rich longtime collaboration between Lucasfilm and the LEGO Group — playful adventures told in an endearingly irreverent way. Set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day as she embarks on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi temple, Rey finds herself hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit? You’ll have to watch to find out! And starting next month, you can get a closer look at some of the holiday-themed characters from the special when the 2020 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar releases on September 1. This year, the advent calendar was designed in concert with the development and production of the show. DK will also release the LEGO Star Wars Holiday sticker book, which lets brick fans stick instead of click. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is a production of Atomic Cartoons, the LEGO Group, and Lucasfilm. It is directed by Ken Cunningham and written by David Shayne, who is also co-executive producer. James Waugh, Josh Rimes, Jason Cosler, Jacqui Lopez, Jill Wilfert, and Keith Malone are executive producers. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for updates on The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. |

Taika Waititi's Star Wars film will most likely be their next Feature Film to be released in 2023.
The script is being co-written by Taika and Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who co-wrote 1917 with director Sam Mendes. |
Quote:
Hopefully they'll be given the independence to make a good movie. |
Quote:
I haven't seen 1917, so I can't attest to the script, but at least KK is hiring A-Listers. She also said this week that they've been taking a huge step back this year to look at the entire Star Wars Universe, which currently spans about 25,000 years. Hopefully, Taika's film will be set either far in the past or far into the future because The Mandalorian, the new Obi Wan series along with the Rogue One prequel and the Ahsoka Tano series have the Clone Wars through just before The Force Awakens covered. It's time for stories in a new era, IMO. |
Agreed.
Smaller more grounded stories seem to be more successful. |

My annual plea for an Old Republic (and Eternal Empire era) movie

If not, I'll watch as soon as it's available on one of the streaming platforms. Thanks! |

An Old Republic movie would be too polarizing because inevitably, changes would be made to the story or character arcs, which would piss off at least half of the fan base. |

Black Mirror’s Toby Haynes To Direct ‘Rogue One’ Spin-Off Series At Disney+ As Tony Gilroy Steps Aside As Director As Disney+ prepares to start production on its new Rogue One spinoff series, it will be doing so with a new director as sources tell Deadline Toby Haynes will helm the first three episodes, replacing Tony Gilroy. Sources say Gilroy dropped off as director for COVID-19-related travel reasons. Gilroy lives in New York and had to make a decision quickly on whether he would head over to the UK for the shoot; in the end, he thought it would be best that he stay in New York and have Haynes take over his directing duties. Haynes already was high on the list of directors who would helm future episodes and since he also already was in the UK, all parties thought this would make the most sense. Gilroy will stay very much involved with the series as exec producer and showrunner. The series centers on the Cassian Andor character (Diego Luna, reprising his role from the film) and is in pre-production with plans to start shooting next month. Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller also are in the cast. Haynes has been on a roll as of late, which started with directing the Emmy-winning Black Mirror episode “U.S.S. Callister,” starring Jesse Plemons. The special had a Star Trek-meets-Twilight Zone feel and is a fan favorite. He followed that up by directing the HBO movie Brexit starring Benedict Cumberbatch and also has the highly anticipated Amazon series Utopia, which premieres this Friday. |
It might be the same article I read yesterday, but for anybody who panics reading that headline and doesn't dive into the article or further into the blurb, this is only about covid - Gilroy is still showrunner and heavily involved day-to-day. He just didn't think he could direct the shoot in London.

Welcome to yesterday, Deberg.
|
There's just so. much.
|
That sucks (the Hayden thing). Was looking forward to Obi-Wan movies. Not anymore. :(

Curious decision. |

Vader is Vader, no matter who is under the suit. They'll have James Earl Jones or the next closest voice voicing him. Christensen will be there for the flashback scenes which will likely limit his screen time, maybe? I can deal with him being back to get us all some more Vader.
|
Quote:
Everyone in town knows Christensen’s limitations so I highly doubt they’re going to feature him extensively, unless he’s made massive strides as an actor in the past 15 years. And while I wouldn’t rule that out as happening, I don’t expect it, either. Bottom line is that if it didn’t work in the table reads, there’s no way they would have moved forward with him. One more thing: He and Ewan were pretty freaking phenomenal during their epic lightsaber battle in Mustafar so hopefully, part of the reason he’s part of the series is so that we can see another epic lightsaber battle between Obi Wan and Vader. |
Quote:
And yes. The final battle in ep3 was phenomenal. |
Quote:
I don't think they should concern themselves with what was said in A New Hope. There was an implication that Vader and Obi Wan hadn't seen each other in quite some time but whether that was 20 years or 10 years (which is when the series is reportedly set) or even 5 years, they should just go with whatever makes the story work. One line of dialog that they'll never get past is that Obi Wan states "For over a thousand generations, the Jedi knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the old Republic... before the dark times... before the Empire", which was contradicted by Palpatine when he said "I will not allow this Republic, which has stood for 1,000 years...". I just want a great story and hope we see at least one lightsaber battle between Obi Wan and Vader, regardless of that dialog. They could pull the old "From a certain point of view" to make up for the time that had passed between their last encounter and their most recent encounter. |
That’s fair.
|
Quote:
He asked Anakin to spy on the Chancellor and when Anakin objects, Obi Wan pushed him to follow the Council's orders. The Council also pushed Anakin to betray the Chancellor. Anakin tried to do the right thing when Mace Windu and the other Jedi showed up to kill Palpatine as well. It's kind of strange that Obi Wan is held in high regard, when he went against the Jedi Code and blatantly lied to Luke on several occasions, yet he's basically thought of as a hero. |

Obi-Wan should be on the run like the A-Team from Col. Decker. Gallivanting around Tatooine - and the galaxy - doing good for those in need. Vader gets close to him, but can never quite land the net. I'd like to see some of that cheeky Obi-Wan humor return, right in Vader's face. "Hello there." *dives away from Vader to escape at the last second* Obi-Wan also thinks Anakin is dead, so I want a full story arc in there with Obi-Wan discovering Vader's true identity. In fact, this can be a driving force to get his hermit ass into action. Epic! |

And while I hated Christensen's portrayal of Anakin as much as anybody else, he wasn't nearly as awful or annoying as Kylo in the last three. |

Load of shit. Kylo was the only good thing about the sequels. Way better than Hayden's shit-tier prequels.

I think Adam Driver did all he could with those turd scripts he was provided. I actually enjoyed him in TFA; would love to have seen him with a competent story to tell in the other two (all of them, really).
|
Quote:
However given that in the prequels they made Anakin a member of the council & he had taken an apprentice in the clone wars series. So it's hard to argue that Anakin was still just a learner when he fought Obi Wan as he was already considered a Jedi master, had already taken an apprentice & was on the council. |
Quote:
Again, I don't blame the actor. He was the victim of bad stories and bad directing. I pretty much hate VII through IX as much as I do I through III. They're all bad movies. The only good, truly enjoyable Star Wars movies made since the 80s are Rogue One and Solo. |
Quote:
There was nothing "cool" or "calculating" about Kylo Ren. He continually acted like a spoiled child and had zero control of his emotions. His "redemption" was about as a dumb as possible. |

Quote:
He was never supposed to be Darth Vader. Kylo was a believable character. Anakin was complete trash. |
