It’s pure fan fantasy wish fulfillment and most likely shitty acting, but I don’t care. I’ll watch anyways |
Good. Maybe Johnny will finally settle the score. And LaRusso will get what's been coming to him. It's just a real shame that the demon sorcerer won't be around in order to witness it

Season 2 was good, but not as good; but in fairness, how could it be? I actually hope they wrap things up in Season 3 so that the show doesn't end up jumping the proverbial shark. It seems to me that the eventual outcome will be (I guess I'll spoiler this for anybody who hasn't watched it at all)
Spoiler!

Mr Miyagi taught me everything!
Are you sure? Now this is becoming cliche Just have Miyagi's previous pupil be a better practitioner. |

I thought the second season was still good, but I felt I was giving it an upscore just given my love for the movie. And I'm not sure it would have the same wider appeal. I'm absolutely excited about a third season, but my expectations aren't tremendously high. And I also really hope they wrap things up. |
Holy crap, this show is way better than it has any right to be. My surprise of the year.
|
I’m in the middle of season 2 now getting caught up. Pretty cool they got the rest of Johnnys old Cobrai Kai buddies from the original movie. They even mentioned that Dutch was in prison as to why he wasn’t there.
I love all the callbacks to the original. It’s really well done. The only issue I have is would Kreese really continue to be a hard ass and hate Daniel 30+ years later? He’s such a comical one dimensional villain. Although they did try and give him a little depth with his homeless vet backstory. |
Just finished season 1 last night. The parent in me hopes that Daniel can help Robby and Johnny reconcile at some point. I also hope that Johnny realizes his mistakes with Miguel, even though his intentions were good, and works to correct them. I hated seeing Kreese at the end. I really hope that Johnny doesn't digress.

Honestly though.....Chuck Norris taught me everything. Had to type that. ROFL |

I couldn't have been more wrong, I am utterly shocked how great it is. This is truly a fantastic show, very well written. The acting is terrific from the main characters down to the bit players. 10/10, can't wait for season 3. I'm actually thinking about re-watching the first two seasons again even though I just finished them. It's that good. |
I watched this thinkung I'd make fun of you deberg, but it was really good
|
PGM hates everything, so maybe I'll give this a shot haha.

Welcome to two years ago.

Then one night I was feeling nostalgic and had a few drinks, and it popped up in my Netflix feed. I had no idea they even added it to their service. I ended up watching both seasons in a matter of a week which is a 'binge' to me as I rarely do anything like that. |

Wife and I sat down and began watching the show....seemed a little weird (in a nostalgic) sort of way....Sorry, but the acting was a tad suspect on occasion, but over all, for guys like me, that enjoyed the movies way back when - it wasn't bad. Looking forward to the next season...Loved that Dodge Challenger though ;) Gorgeous automobile.. |

Season 2 was pretty poor, IMO.
At a point it just became 'good guys vs. bad guys' and every silly story telling device imaginable got hammered in there to make a clear dichotomy. The first season made clear how different a story can look based on its narrator. The second season just had the same lame ass black/white distinction and took low hanging fruit at every possible turn. I'll check out season 3 if/when it comes around because of a couple of cliffhangers, but my expectations are pretty much nil. |
Quote:
Season 1 definitely let you know that Johnny wasn't the real bad guy. Season 2 felt like a transition. Focused on the kids, Johnny learning the difference between mercy and honor (and catching up with the times), and just building up to something more than the 30 minute fight scene. It has to come back to defeating Kreese. Regardless, I really can't see this series going longer than three seasons...four if they just feel the need to draw things out. |
Quote:
I'm betting it was one of those shows where the writers didn't really expect more than one season, but they had to keep it rolling once the offer came in and they didn't really know where to go with the story. |
Quote:
Honestly, I think it already did. Every time there was a chance for nuance to a character, it just became more turning into the skid on cliche's like Robby's 'good kid in a tough spot' angle or Tori as a bad influence or Demitri becoming a badass in 2 weeks because of Nerd Power or something. It just ended up being really forced and hackey in season 2. I just started cringing because you could see them telegraph the inevitable 'black/white' moment every episode when they had a chance to really make for an interesting story instead. |
Quote:
Indeed. Ralph Machio never really impressed me as an actor - Pat Morita made those movies for me. He was a pretty damned good actor. Don't get me wrong - for me, it was like a trip down 80s memory lane. I will check out season 3, but they should probably bring it to a conclusion at the end of 3. |
Daniel-son was starting to sound like an infomercial every time he says "At Miyagi-Do Karate...". We enjoyed watching the series. First season was very well done. Enjoyed the nods to the movies and such.
The second season had some unrealistic situations that just didn't make sense and seemed abit far fetched in order to advance the plot. Looking forward to seeing how they wrap it up in season 3. I dont see this having enough plot to advance past 3 seasons. |

So Elizabeth Shue for season 3 ? |
The fight reminded me of all the Peter vs. Chicken fights in Family Guy and was about as ridiculous.

Season 2 was what I expected when I started watching season 1. But S1 was genuinely good. Which is to say they should probably pull the plug on this thing after season 3. |
Quote:
Edit: just for clarity, I’m not going to try and argue that season 2 was as good as season 1, it wasn’t, but I don’t think it was as awful as you are making it out to be. I think season 1 just came out of left field and its uniqueness probably elevates more than may be justified. |
Hi thought overall season 2 was good. Other than the school fight that jumped the shark and turning Kreese into a cartoon villain.
|
I'm glad LaRussos daughter isn't actually like 16 cuz she is gorgeous. Turns out shes 24.

S1 was great. especially S1E1. S2 was good. The farther the story delves into teenage karate fighters, the worse it gets. would any teenager take karate nowadays? I think they would gravitate towards J.J. MT or Krav Maga. I will probably watch S3 even though my karate itch was totally scratched by S1 |
Quote:
Damn, the season 2 ending really jumped the shark and had the worst choreography in the whole show. I was telling my wife that the show felt very visceral and well done with the fight scenes like 30 seconds before the brawl went down. I felt pretty stupid right after that. |

IMO Daniel's wife (Courtney Henggeler) is far hotter than the daughter.
She also played Sheldon's sister on Big Bang Theory. Yummy. |

Mom, OTOH - yeah, that works really nicely. |
I think this series is epic. That Johnny (Zabka) character and I are 2 peas in a pod as far as attitude. At work the young guys were always shocked at my not so politically correct comments and 1980`s persona. I look forward to season 3.

They are going to turn it into a pile of shit aren't they?

New season 3 trailer.
Didn’t see Ali, but saw the girl And the villain from Karate Kid II in there. https://youtu.be/LcDQqGJG8pA |
I'd say there's about zero doubt that Elizabeth Shue will make an appearance, but she's kind of their ace in the hole this season so they won't show her in the previews.
I assume that Johnny and Daniel will start working together, then Ali will show up, stir up all the old feelings, and throw everything into chaos. Nice touch tossing in the baddie from the second movie. Didn't see that coming. |
Quote:
It definitely looks like Daniel and Johnny work together this season at some point. Wonder if they snag the villains from part III too? Mike Barnes and Terry. |
I finally stumbled into this show a month ago. I’m through a season and a half and I have to say, I was also really surprised at how much I like it.
My kids grimace now because I do too much kicking and karate yelling out of the blue now. Our rooster, Bruce Jenner, was flexing on Brideowanian in the yard the other day,and I intervened with a hiyaaaaw! And swept the leg. I’ve caught the kids making tik tak videos and they’ve then caught me in the back ground ruining them with karate kicks. I interrupted a kid bickering match at the table with a down kick on it. Yeah...I almost pulled a hammy, it they stopped bitching at each other. I like the show. I’m working home alone, maybe I’ll go karate kick an empty box out to the burn barrel. When rona started I gave my older kids a list of 80s movies to watch....and this has instigated a new list. If forgotten about iron eagle. On the down side, the middle child was digging through old dvd for 80s movies, and came up with 16 candles. Ok. Great......and porky’s. Uh no. |
Quote:
I haven't seen Sixteen Candles or Porky's forever. Talk about two movies that could absolutely never be made today. I have a particular soft spot for Porky's; I saw it seated in the balcony at the local theater with the prettiest girl I dated (albeit far too briefly) in high school. The balcony usher and I intensely disliked each other, and the look of sneering contempt and jealously he had on his face as we passed him still puts a smile on my face nearly 40 years later. I rounded third for the first time later that night as well. Definitely one of my better days. :) |
Quote:
It’s funny how we kids of the 80s basically grew up on R rated movies. And of course I did my best to shelter my kids from stuff like that. LOL Sixteen Candles is still decent but it has become problematic because of implied date rape and bad Asian stereotypes. |

Here's to hoping they wrap it up with this season. I like it a lot...I'm afraid they are going to just run it into the ground. Make it a 3 season thing and call it good.
