Anyone use Vivint home security

I've been trying to cancel my contract with them and they tell me I can't. i've written them a notice the last three months to cancel my service and they just won't do it. so now I'm 3 months behind on payment and they keep calling wanting money and I keep explaining that I'm done sending them money. Who the hell signs a 5 year contract anyway, I guess I did , but I'm done.
When i got the service it was from a door to door guy selling Vivint and i already had ADT, he had me just write ADT a note to cancel service and there were no issues with them but VIVINT will not let me do that. They say they need $1003 to cancel.

**** THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEY DONE PISSED OFF HOG FARMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you signed a 5 year contract with someone who uninvited appeared at your door
good idea

Great Expectations 07-17-2017 01:05 PM

With Vivint you sign an agreement to rent the equipment, with ADT you buy it upfront. While you can cancel at anytime with ADT, you don't get reimbursed for the equipment already purchased.

Well I'm done renting the equipment, I'd be happy to return it.

I'm guessing that your contract calls for you to purchase the equipment in order to cancel. That $1k is probably your past bills + late charges + depreciated value of the equipment.

It's for 25 months at $40 / month left on the contract.

I can't wait to **** with the upcoming collection agency. My credit score is 800+ and I haven't been late on ANYTHING in 20 years. So I don't care about this.

Eleazar 07-17-2017 01:28 PM

That sucks, but... why would you buy so much as a toothpick from someone selling door to door

Amnorix 07-17-2017 02:29 PM

So things to check:

1. if you're late in paying, do you owe interest charges?

2. if they sue you, do you owe legal fees?

3. can they sue you in some god-forsaken jurisdiction (Florida or Minnesota or whatever)? Have you agreed through the contract to personal jurisdiction there?

4. is there mandatory arbitration if there is a dispute? again, in some god-forsake jurisdiction?

Rant and rave all you want, unless you have an out (see Mikey's post) then they could definitely come after you and be a pain in the ass about all this, and you could end up owing more than the thousand bucks.

I don't know why you don't just let the pigs guard the place.

Killer defense guard pigs.

Does Kirby require you to rent their vacuums forever? I wasn't aware of that.

I kind of wish I could not buy anything any more. Everything comes with strings attached.

I'd like to subscribe to the New York Times, for example, but the only way I can get a subscription appears to involve signing a form that says, "here's my credit card and just keep charging me forever unless I tell you to stop".

No. I just want a one-year subscription, and if I like it I'll renew. But apparently I'm not allowed to do that any more, so I just don't subscribe and read the occasional free articles that come to me on Facebook. This strategy must work for the New York Times overall, but it costs them my money and I want to pay them.

EPodolak 07-17-2017 04:15 PM

Some service providers will pay your cancellation fees in exchange for signing up with them. That current contract you're in is pretty steep, but worth a look around.

Pablo 07-17-2017 05:46 PM

When we bought our house their was an ADT system already installed. Wife wanted to continue the service because at the time I was on the road a little bit for work. $50/month for this stupid shit and a 3 year contract to boot. I bet this thing is turned on a couple of times a month at best.

If you cancel at any point then you essentially owe $25/mo for the remainder of the contract.

88TG88 07-17-2017 06:05 PM

Don't cancel, what if someone breaks in and steals all your priceless pig semen !

lewdog 07-17-2017 06:31 PM

We have Protect America. Some upfront costs but no contract.

We use our alarm system every day and night.

Bob Dole 07-17-2017 06:34 PM

I have Blink. 2 outdoor and 2 indoor wireless cameras that alert me on my phone if motion. HD video with audio. No monthly fee.
