Food is great, staff on target. Good place. Beer cold. Gets high marks from Que experts and foodies as well.

BBQ is a true meritocracy, always has been. If it wasn't white people wouldn't have traveled into a shitty neighborhood to get Bryant's for decades. Did anyone go into the hood for good burgers, or Italian food, or Chinese food, or even Mexican? And no - Southwest Blvd. is not the hood. Half the white people in KC would never interact with black people on a regular basis if it wasn't for BBQ.

So if some doughy suburban white boys want to hang out their shingle (in KC of all places) and claim good BBQ? They'll be given a fair chance just like everyone else.

I did go into the Gates BBQ in the hood. It was terrible. The most overrated BBQ in the entire city.

The joint isn't even in Prairie Village. Had he gone into KCMO to try it out sans knowledge of where the owner is from that stupid post never would have been made.

I thought it was pretty good. I got the ribs. But, I was not blown away by it at all. Definitely had better.

Shit, when we played the Music Festival that Nzoner put on in St. Joe, the BBQ at that was goddam epic...not sure if that counts as KC BBQ...and the dude running the smoker was white...but it was fine Q for sure.

Staying at a hotel right off the interstate before heading to the Airport the next day. Asked the bartender at the hotel where the nearest BBQ place was and he pointed that one out. ****ing walked 8 blocks down to it. I knew it was off when everyone looked at us when we walked in. It was that look of "what the **** are you doing here!?"

I live just a few minutes away from there. There are ghetto pockets and perfectly fine pockets. During nice weather I often walk to and from my neighborhood bar and feel perfectly safe doing so.

I'm guessing the pistol helps.

They kind of frown up on it being carried into the bar. However you are correct that having it handy in case one of the bad pockets bleeds into my good pocket does add to my over all comfort level.

It used to be good. It's slipped in the last 10 years or so. Still my favorite sauce.

There has been some backlash because so many people are singing its praises and its popular but its amongst the best in the city. And its not like they are good at one thing...its a great all around place.

Too many places have been resting on how good they used to be. Q39 wants to give you a good experience.

downtown kck is the only place I straight run red lights and shit to get out of. People come up and knock on your windows at night. Q39 is clean and awesome. Portions need to be better. Also I want bbq where I get the food not a waitress comes and brings it to me. If a waitress brings it to me it better be some old hag.

I want more ends & brisket than that.

I've got to try it out. Portions look small, though. I've pretty much converted to a 100% dry rub guy. When I see Q served with more than a tiny bit of sauce, it gives me pause.

I had a Hog Heaven at OK Joe's last Friday. Was ok, kind of overrated.

The fries were amazing though.

I had Q39 once - the sandwich that is something like a BBQ patty melt - it was insanely good. But again, would have liked about 50% more.

Not as of yet. The last time I was at Q39, they were talking of their plans to expand. The Northland will get one a couple/few years down the road. They are building another in Olathe either now or very soon.

And Clay isn't just throwing hyperbole around - Q39 really is that ****ing good.

I will say, if you are going to serve small portions for that price, it better be spectacular, or at least presented better. Looks like you are at a BBQ. NNTAWWT!

The portions really aren't that small. You need to go and get the 3-meat platter. It's plenty of food. That's a 2-meat platter.
