Per league source, Chiefs sign DE Allen Bailey to four-year extension. Base value is $25 million. $10 million to sign.

Dorsey probably assumed it would be better to pay based on half a year at a high level than let him go the entire year and get into a bidding war or see the price go even higher.

If I had to guess--- they will keep Houston, Hudson for sure. Hopefully Parker if he continues his roll. Then, the rest of our offseason will be toward the 11 or 12 picks we have. Maybe if the salary cap gets a big boost we can sign a guy or two.

Some food for thought-- think about some of the great defenses in the NFL right now. I come up with Arizona, Detroit, Seattle, and us. What do they all have in common? Very strong up front. Gotta keep the guys we have. Arizona's 34 ends are also studly.

Dorsey continuing to impress. Bit high, but with his arrow pointing up and the difficulty in finding a player like him = pay day. I'm glad we did it now instead of later. If we had gotten into a bidding war, we would have had to spend a couple more million / year.

Houston may be tagged but who cares. I like that we're keeping good players for decent budgets that won't create a team breakup.

This raises another discussion. With these signings Dorsey is really setting us up for WR and BPA come this draft, much like 2013.

Anybody who watched Bailey last year could see that he was really starting to get it together and become a solid player. I knew once Jackson was let go, then it'd be time for Bailey to shine. Hopefully he continues to grow from here, but I'm glad he'll be with us for a while.

The contract puts him among the highest paid defensive ends in a 3-4 defense. He trails players like J.J. Watt, Calais Campbell, and Darnell Dockett.

The #Chiefs still have Ron Parker, Josh Mauga, Chris Owens, Kevin Vickerson, & Rodney Hudson, and Justin Houston to retain UFA wise for 2015. Great start.

Watch him some more. Bailey gets blown off of the ball more often than I would like in the run game.

Of those guys you named, the ones worth bring back are Houston, Mauga, Parker, Hudson. The other 2 are replaceable. And that's not to take anything away from Vickerson. Owens is the one that sucks.

We are watching two different Bailey's apparently.

Bailey repeatedly is getting in the backfield and applying pressure when he's not too busy stonewalling running backs in the run game

He was great against Buffalo, that was his best game as a run defender.

Allen Bailey has also played 30.2% of special teams snaps for the #Chiefs this season.

Either your expectations vs the run are too high, or you have a couple of vivid memories of him getting beat that stick out in your mind and have formed your opinion on, rather than an entire seasons worth of plays.

Probably my expectations. IMO, to have a truly dominant 3-4 defense, you need to have at least 2 DL players who can dominate the LOS like Wilkerson & Richardson, Campbell & Dockett (when he was healthy), Smith & McDonald, etc.

So far we have Poe. Bailey has really improved but I'd like to see even more from him. He's good right now, a better all-around player than Jackson was, but I want him to be great.

A no brainer and he signed for very cheap. And no... He is not getting paid 7 mil a year. A 10 mil signing bonus In 4 years is very cheap.
