Elder Scrolls VI: Argonia

The Black Marsh, coming March 2016.

Well I feel a cold coming on that day.

Same thing that took me out the day Skyrim was released, strangely.

Fire Me Boy! 09-16-2014 10:07 AM

For the record, I'm not sure how I feel about the Black Marsh as the setting. The Argonians kind of annoy me, so the prospect of a royal buttload of Argonian NPCs doesn't have me super excited.

That said, I've come to trust Bethesda 100 percent.

I have been replaying skyrim lately, and it has me a bit depressed with how dark the setting of the game is visually.

I wouldn't mind a bit more color in the next game.

But the Black Marsh sounds like more of the same to me.

I replay every now and then. My wife has never stopped playing. She builds a character in her never ending quest to building the perfect character. As soon as she makes a perk decision she doesn't like, she starts a new character. She did the same thing with Oblivion. Never finished the main quest in Oblivion until Skyrim came out - I banned her from Skyrim until she finished it. I expect she'll do the same thing with this one.

She's always playing sneak characters and always played with alchemy. I finally convinced her to try a brute character, no alchemy. So she's playing a dual-ax-weilding Orc, running in guns a blazin'. No alchemy, so she's not wasting a bunch of time collecting ingredients. She's loving it. Totally different type of game play when you're not trying to sneak around. Also makes cave diving a LOT faster.

I never have understood the whole be sneaky approach to games. I want to have fun playing them. It is a distraction from real life for me.

The last thing I want to do is sit around and sneak through a game the size of Elder Scrolls.

I am the Leeroy Jenkins of Elder Scrolls. Kill first, kill again, and keep killing. Then maybe ask a question. Then more killing.

I've played sneak quite a bit. I enjoy it, especially in Skyrim (vs. Oblivion) where the bow is a MUCH more powerful weapon. I also really like the assassin's blade perk. Not to bad carrying a bow and a knife and a whole bunch of one-shot kills. At one point in a previous character where I'd built up the entire sneak perk tree, I could one-shot most dragons.

I played quite a bit of sneak on my most recent playthrough. High elf/glass armor/sneaking around and one-shotting the **** out of people. with the bow. Lot of fun.

You could do it in Oblivion, too, but you really had to focus on Archery. Once you got your skill high though, it kicked ass. But God. Damn. it was tough to play that route.

Hammock Parties 09-16-2014 11:54 AM

My dick is hard.

Back to single player Elder Scrolls.

Back to getting completely lost in an open world for 10 hours the first time I play it.

Me too. Nothing more frustrating than a ****ing sneak mission where you're required not to kill anyone. Boooo. I fail that shit on purpose.

Hah.

I agree. I couldn't imagine how long it would take to dive through some of those caves and dungeons while sneaking.

Those are the best. Elder Scrolls gets too easy when all you have to do is kill guards/npcs.

Chromatic 09-16-2014 05:25 PM

This is probably one of the last places they could go when it comes to new environments. Swamplands and underwater locations should be everywhere.

I wonder if mudcrabs or cliff racers will pester the shit out of me once again.

Hammock Parties 09-16-2014 05:28 PM

Hope we get some cool sea monsters.

In fact a whole sea kingdom would be awesome.

Chromatic 09-16-2014 05:48 PM

I hope the armor is better this time around than in Skyrim. Daedric looked great as usual, but ebony armor looked underwhelming.

Then again, I didn't play much of Skyrim.

tyler360 09-16-2014 05:59 PM

It probably adds at least 100 hours to the game to sneak around those dungeons.

kcxiv 09-16-2014 09:08 PM

My first Elder Scrolls was Skyrim. I loved it, then about halfway through it. At least i think i was halfway, i got bored of it so fast. It just felt super repetitive.

They haven't done the desert with Hammerfall yet. Wonder what the architecture is going to look like with Oblivion being very Roman and Skyrim being very Norse.

The Redgaurd are the Arabic stand ins, well Moorish really looking at the variation of skin color. Elsweyr is supposed to be half jungle, half desert. Some I would guess they would go with a more Central American architecture style.

For Black Marsh. I am thinking Southeast Asia like Indonesia and Thailand.

Yes I agree on the Argonians thing. They really piss me off. I really can't explain why. But they just suck.

But like you I will defer to Bethesda because they have done these games right for so long now.

One shotting the dragons? That's impressive. I've been contemplating running through Skyrim again. Maybe I'll try a sneak character.

That's my biggest problems with Elder Scrolls games. They get too easy at a certain point.

I hate the idea I can sneak around and one shot a dragon.

A battle with a dragon should almost kill me.

Plenty of difficulty mods out there, if in fact, he was one shotting dragons on Legendary difficulty.

Deadly Dragons mod with the "unleveler" option checked should take care of that.

Hope they get magic right this time. So disappointing when I can tool around with enchantment/alchemy to enhance blacksmithing and get my weapons to do sick damage even against the ever-scaling enemies, but there was no way to raise magic damage past what was available in the perks.

You had to use enchantment as a mage to make it where your gear allowed you to infinitely cast spells just to have a chance, and even then with the "BLAAARRGH ZERG ZERG ZERG!!!!" style of enemy AI, you could still wind up getting your face raped because you couldn't kill those ****ing Draugr Death Overlords before they ran up to you and sliced you into quivering bloody sushi.

Oh, and bring back the spell creator from Oblivion.

It wasn't all bad though, I did something similar to this with my mage, and basically turned him into the ultimate assassin. Quiet Casting combined with Assassin's Blade, and enchanted gear that allowed for infinite casts was really damn fun.

So, I'll be the first to admit that I was never really into games like Elder Scrolls/Skyrim etc.
the genre just never interested me.
Well, until recently. I picked up Witcher 3 and love it.

Anywho, I was out the other day amd stopped by my local Target. They had the super awesome special edition of Skyrim for PS3 on close out. Bought it for 8 bucks and figured WTF? Might be fun.
Christ, I've put in about 3 hrs and can't put it down. Why didn't anyone tell me????
Even though it's dated, it's really a beautiful game. The ****ing music is some of the best I've ever heard. This took a lot of effort from the Devs.

I was the same way until i discovered Skyrim.. Maybe I'm the only one, but I just can't get into Elder Scrolls Online though

ThaVirus 08-11-2015 06:42 PM

Xbox Live had Skyrim for like $7.99 or something ridiculous about a year ago so I decided to hit it up. I think I put in like 80 hours on that game with one character and still only reached level 50-something.

There's just so much to do.

IT'S HAPPENING

TES: VI Hammerfell

https://www.gamingbible.com/news/the...jHQQmcqoTyLk2A

Quote:

It turns out that an insider has started to leak some information on the upcoming instalment in the long-running Elder Scrolls franchise.

Before we get into any details, this comes from an insider and should be taken with a pinch of salt until we hear something more substantial from Bethesda.

Let’s get into the details, which have been reported by eXtas1s on YouTube.

Heading up the leak is the potential setting for The Elder Scrolls VI, which is said to be Hammerfell, possibly confirming something that many fans had already figured out.

The leaker goes on to say that naval battles will be a huge feature of the game, which will be supported by shipbuilding.

This would be a massive step forward in world exploration and personalisation for players who can hopefully construct a ship and sail the seas.

Shipbuilding is, apparently, inspired by spaceship construction from Starfield, which makes a lot of sense.

There will also be underwater exploration with archipelagos to investigate on your travels.

Those are the big details, as everything else feels rather generic to report - combat is being significantly improved, and the character progression has been overhauled.

Both things you would expect from a sequel to a game over a decade old.

Imon Yourside 02-27-2025 03:05 AM

I fully expect the hate train to take over and kill this game like any other big time AAA release.

It'll be like every other Bethesda game - buggy and annoying as **** at launch and for the first six months, then they'll work out most of the bugs and it will be fine, and then in another six months the modders will start adding awesome extra content that really makes it take off. My wife/follower will immediately wonder what's in the cave we just spent half an hour exploring the second we leave it. The main quest will be a boat anchor, and the faction quests will rock.

People will piss and moan about load screens and the same old interface and scream about Todd being the devil, while old farts like me will cherish the familiarity of it all.

Same as it ever was.

Hopefully sometime this year.

For sure, I still remember Daggerfall back in the 90's, what a total buggy mess that was. I bought a house then got stuck on the staircase in it and had to start my save over. Also remember a year after it's release a patch for the game that fixed a ton of the issues killed everyones save game. Way better now than it ever was but people remember the glory days differently.

Daggerfall was before my time - the first Bethesda game I played was Morrowind. I was late to that one as well, since I don't really remember any issues with it, but I didn't really care for it that much and never finished it. But after that, starting with Oblivion, I played and enjoyed them all, particularly Skyrim. Hell, I started another round of Starfield after that abortion of a Super Bowl. Needed something to take my mind off that shit.

Skyrim has the best, for me anyway, music of any game I've played. I used to smoke out and just run around the wilderness basically listening to the soundtrack.

Chief Pagan 02-27-2025 10:20 PM

Can't say I'm optimistic about ES VI. Besides the when is it ever going to happen.

They just seem to be falling more and more behind basic standards of AAA games.

Skyrim was incredible. When it came out.

I hope they can prove the doubters wrong, but I don't see a lot of reason for optimism.

The longer it takes, the more hopeful I get it will be good. That they're getting it right. This is not going to be HL3. That game never had a teaser.

Starfield Character design tweet
from Feb 13, 2021. Game was released September 6, 2023.

That's 935 days.

If that's anything at all to go by, we could be seeing TES:VI Sep 10, 2027.

Let's say fall 2027!

Potentially 4 different biomes, 5 if you count the high seas.

I have zero confidence in them. These companies aren't usually the same as they were 15+ years ago but can still make bank off of the name that they built when they still made great games.

On a related note, just DLd Avowed.

Great reviews and Obsidian still puts out solid RPGs.

Lmao NO.

NO NO NO NO NO NO.

Delete that steaming hunk of shit.

You ever play ESPN NFL 2K5 on PS2 or XBOX and see how many literal HUNDREDS of features it has over the current iteration of Madden, and wonder how incompetent you have to be to not be able to surpass a product that released 20 years ago?

Well, that's what Elder Scrolls FOUR does to Avowed, and don't even try comparing Elder Scrolls FIVE.

Lmmfgdao. Avowed is a ****ing embarrassment. Game that came out 19 years prior is built far superior.

Delete.

Just for fun, here's ES5 compared to Avowed.

Am I the only person that is not at all excited about this? After 30 years of TES games, I just can't do the hype anymore. Plus it feels like anything post-Skyrim is going to somehow be a letdown.

I still think Oblivion was better, hate me.

You know they're completely remaking Oblivion for current gen, right?

Spell crafter in Oblivion was ****ing amazing. I'm pretty sure some of the spells I crafted led to the early demise of my 360, as it literally choked to death trying to process the awesome.

I may not be dead, but I'm pretty much giving up on live combat that requires hand eye coordination and going to turn mode only games. (BG3 was great.)

If story mode is easy enough, and the reviews are great, could give it a try, but another reason not that excited.

I still play games that require quickness, despite my age and declining skills. There's still fun to be had - Monster Hunter comes to mind. About the only thing I won't do is From games. I'm not in it for that kind of difficulty.

Marvel Midnight Suns is fun as hell turn based combat. Super addictive.

I dont have a ton of hope for this.

Skyrim was great, but had far less depth than oblivion. Starfield was an absolute POS. So, Bethesda has been going backwards. I am not sure why anyone would believe that will change.

Because TES is their baby. They're not gonna **** this up.
