Alex Smith = Playmaker

Just an amazing job in this first half of football to weather the storm of losing Charles and stepping his game up to a level many of us thought we would never see.

Worth every penny of 2 second round picks.

If they give him an extension next week, I'm ok with it.

PLAYMAKER

DeezNutz 01-04-2014 05:13 PM

This might be the best half of football that any QB in Chiefs history has ever played.

Fritz88 01-04-2014 05:14 PM

Let's wait second half, a meltdown could undo all his first half work.

He has played beyond my expectations this game. Bravo!

Rasputin 01-04-2014 05:15 PM

The shuffle passes are key plays in this game. Great improvisation there.

milkman 01-04-2014 05:16 PM

Many, if not most, here will hate this comparison, but Smith looked a lot like good Tony Romo in that half.

Proud of him, and happy for him, and no one deserves this more, than Chiefs fans.

****ing unbelievable, hopefully it isn't a one game mirage.

I hated on Alex early on in the season, he began to warm up to me during the 2nd half. Now I'm loving me some Alex!!1

BossChief 01-04-2014 05:32 PM

Alex Smith is looking like the player the 49ers thought they were drafting first overall.

Hammock Parties 01-04-2014 05:32 PM

I am very impressed.

Thank you, Alex.

HoneyBadger 01-04-2014 05:33 PM

It's not over yet. He needs to run down the clock on these next drives.

You listen to me. Alex Smith already won this game.

If we lose, it's 100 percent on the defense.

He can't do it by himself and ESPECIALLY without a defense that can't stop SHIT.

DeezNutz 01-04-2014 07:14 PM

Overall, Smith still played very well. The missed TD to Gray hurt, and the fumble was also a killer.

It was a day that Smith needed to be perfect, and he wasn't; the defense was simply nonexistent.

440 yards of total offense, four tds, all while losing Jamal Charles after 6 plays. Offense scored 44 points.

Alex Smith had very little other than that fumble to do with this loss.

But, he will be the scape goat.

Any one who pins this on Alex just shows how stupid they are. It's that simple.

44 points should win you the game. It's that simple. He played OUTSTANDING today. Was he perfect no. But he was FAR FAR FAR closer to that then the defense.

Glad you two can use logic.

This was Alex Smiths best game of his career. Injuries, and a suspect secondary caught up to the Chiefs.

Still, gives hope to next season. Good to know that Alex Smith can be a play maker, instead of just a game manager.

tk13 01-04-2014 07:26 PM

People blamed Green after the 03 loss, so I'm sure people will blame Alex for this. Hard to argue with 44 points though. And I think he might have set a Chiefs record for playoff passing yards. I don't care enough to look. I think we set a lot of offensive team records today, and did it without Charles too.

I might as well jump on this grenade since I would never claim to be anything but stupid.

In my mind, defense just doesn't matter much in today's NFL. The team with the best QB is going to be favored 90% of the time. The best QB on the field today was Andrew Luck.

l4z4rd 01-04-2014 07:31 PM

Alex put up a valiant effort despite the loss of Charles, Davis, Avery, and like a quarter of his defensive backfield

You just said something 90% of the fans here just don't get. The NFL is a QB league. You don't have an elite QB, you don't win in the postseason.

Tell that to the Ravens last season and the Giants the season before that. Defense matters a lot. The defense was incredibly conservative in the 2nd half, Sutton should have basically sent jailhouse blitz after jailhouse blitz at Luck, knowing he'd have to throw the ball, instead he got to sit back and pick them apart.

Horrendous defensive showing, had this defense even played average they would have won the game walking away. If your offense puts up 41 points, you should win every single m'fing time.

It's not his fault that we lost, but his play in the 2nd half illustrates why I've never embraced him. He was just a passenger along on the bus that went off the cliff. Might have ran up to the drivers seat to apply the brakes. Even with the bad defense, he was in a position to win the game for us. The best QBs do that.

Titty Meat 01-04-2014 07:32 PM

John Dorsey lost this game back in April when he drafted a right tackle 1st overall and ignored the safety position. funny how the highest offensive totals of the year were when fisher was out.

When your QB throws for almost 400 yards, 4 TD's and no INT's, you should ****ing win every single time. Either Sutton needs to go or this defense needs to continue to upgrade, because they got worked.

Yeah, but teams that usually win it all still have a top 10-15 D. The Ravens were a good defensive team. The Packers were a top 5 D when they won... and the Giants certainly were a very good defensive team in both Super Bowls. We'll see if we've crossed the tipping point, but most elite teams still play some semblance of defense.

While I kind of agree with you. But other than turnovers, did the Chiefs EVER once stop the Colts in the second half?

I truly don't recall them ever doing it.

jd1020 01-04-2014 07:35 PM

He put the ball in Bowe's hands with the game on the line. As great as Bowe played, he didn't get it done on that one. The whole team was limping into the 4th quarter...key players out and such.

Alex may be a playmaker but he will become the least talented QB in the division next year when Johnny Football becomes Johnny Raider. I just can't see Oakland not taking him at #5.

That one is going to haunt him. And I agree... I think it was everyone's fault, and at the same time it wasn't. I don't know how many times we've even run Gray on that type of play... the timing wasn't there. If that's Charles, he probably gets under the ball with his speed.

For the last time, JFC, Alex Smith is NOT the problem.

Did he throw 3 INT's like the opposing QB did?

That was easily the best Chief QB performance in a playoff game.

BULL ****ING SHIT.

If you're happy with a QB who didn't deliver 1 TD in 5 consecutive second half drives in a game that was clearly a shoot out, that's fine. If you're perfectly happy if with that same QB when he came up short of getting a FG on the decisive 6th drive, that's fine.

I'm not satisfied with that QB. I'm not going to bash him; he had a great game. But situational play matters to me.

He put up 440 total yards 4 TDs 0 INTs without our best player on offense and losing our deep threat receiver. You want to talk about about situational football? How about the defense that couldn't force a single punt with a 28 point lead? You think the QB is to blame for that? ROFL

He made a shitload of chicken salad today, that's for sure.

I'm not satisfied with that QB. I'm not going to bash him; he had a great game. But situational play matters to me.

44 points and you want to place any kind of blame on Alex?

You're a smart man, but apparently not infallible.

44 points, the man was ON FIRE.

The defender made a great play to pin Bowe against the sidelines before the pass was thrown. It was a very low percentage throw. Not often would it be complete. Had the ball been a little more to the inside, maybe Bowe stays in bounds. I don't know. I hate that we were in 4th and 11 in that situation.
