PFF: Poor game from Fisher

Yup. Very poor game.

Rookie Rollicking

I’m not in the business of making excuses for someone, but how bad is the hand of Eric Fisher (-4.5)? I ask because his performance was of such a level and he seemed to be favoring his hand so often, that the question had to be asked: are the Chiefs doing the right thing getting him game time as opposed to letting him heal?

He had to leave the field after Will Tukuafu got the better of him with 4:05 to go in the first and yet he would return to finish out the first half. That wasn’t the only time he struggled as Ray McDonald was too powerful for him at the point of attack on the opening drive, having no problem working on his inside shoulder and getting off his blocking attempts.

In pass protection, Parys Haralson (hurry and sack), Corey Lemonier (hurry) and Ahmad Brooks (hurry with an assist from some hands to the face) all got past him, while he failed on two occasions to execute cut blocks on stretch runs.

More is expected of the first overall pick.

Ban 1.1 picks

Mr. Arrowhead 08-18-2013 03:53 PM

yup hes a bust cuz he sucked in his 2nd preseason game

Gravedigger 08-18-2013 03:54 PM

That first game will be great because we won't be able to use the "It's preseason" cop out anymore and we'll get to see who does a better job, Joeckel or Fisher. This won't tell us who the best player is obviously, but it'll be fun to watch regardless.

Ace Gunner 08-18-2013 03:55 PM

HOW CAN THIS BE1111

vailpass 08-18-2013 03:55 PM

The dude is a baby, he needs time.

Sully 08-18-2013 03:57 PM

I had to disagree with their first point, and didn't read further.
He won the battle on the block before he went out. It was a solid block.

BlackHelicopters 08-18-2013 03:59 PM

Baldwin can teach him the ropes

Who said he's a "bust"? This article is merely pointing out that he is playing really badly. I think he'll eventually get it together, but so far, I'm not seeing the "immediate upgrade" over Winston.

TribalElder 08-18-2013 04:00 PM

If they sit him, Stephenson will make it near impossible for them to switch back. then what.

they better win games.

Donald Stephenson left #Chiefs practice early because of injured shoulder. Was in starting lineup today at RT due to Fisher's absence

Give'm a chance to adjust playing the right side to NFL level speed. That's not automatic you know especially when all you have played is LT and you have a tender hand going against a SB caliber D line. But he definitely needs to live in the weight room for a while I agree.

This team is still bedazzled over the local barbecue fare and little things like garlic pickle spears, it's so stupid.

Pablo 08-18-2013 05:05 PM

We shouldn't have such high expectations for the #1 player in the draft and the best NFL prospect per our infallible GM. Stop expecting him to look decent in preseason people!

That's crazy talk.

notorious 08-18-2013 05:05 PM

I see it as a good thing that he was injured yet toughed it out.

Pablo 08-18-2013 05:09 PM

It's a process:

Step 1. Get drafted 1.1 overall because it's an OL heavy draft and it makes perfect sense
Step 2. Look overwhelmed and under perform in TC
Step 3. Get a nagging injury
Step 4. Get your shit pushed in when you face talent
Step 5. Get your shit pushed in when you face second stringers
Step 6. Let CP'ers say things like "OMG it's not even the regular season why are you worrying about it!!!"

What double standards? You mean the one where the guy they thought should have gone at 1.1 injures himself then underperforms and misses a game goes ignored, while the guy who ended up at 1.1 injures himself, underperforms and is called both a pussy and a bust. That double standard?

donkhater 08-18-2013 05:27 PM

Man, it is bad enough that I'm a fan of a team that hasn't drafted a first round QB in 30 years, but to come on a discussion board and have an idiot repeat it over and over and over is maybe worse.

We get it OK? Your boy Geno got passed over for Fisher and Smith and now the are the devil. Grow up and get over it.

GoChargers 08-18-2013 05:27 PM

I have a feeling that Fisher will be another cautionary tale of why non-playmakers should never be taken first overall.

What Eric Fisher did in his last game for this team was like Geno tossing a couple of picks in a preseason game.

What Geno Smith did was sit out for an injury, because he was struggling playing with it in the preseason. He was apparently throwing lots of picks in practice and was asked to sit out. There is nothing wrong with that. I am just pointing out the massive double standard of some people on this board to call Fisher a pussy, then completely ignore Geno's injury.

The way you are scrutinizing Fisher isn't talking about picks and fumbles. It is the equivalent to scrutinizing Geno because he threw a few feet behind a receiver or forgot to throw the ball away. All this for a guy who is starting his second game, in a shortened preseason, playing a different position, apparently playing a little gimpy.

RobBlake 08-18-2013 05:42 PM

guys our RT Anthony Davis wasn't nearly who is is now when he was a rookie. I think fisher can be great in this league within the next three years

Incorrect. He got beat once or twice but not nearly as bad. He also has a stellar history of very good LT play to fall back on.

Yeah the guy in his 6th season that doesn't understand how to hand off a de and pick up a blitzer.

Branden Albert is an establish, top veteran and nothing you say can change that.

Eric Fisher sucks so far.

He was adequate. Could have been better. Could have been worse.

He also wasn't the most talented player in the entire draft and worth the 1.1 overall like our RT was.

Maybe somebody will post the PFF for him and I'm wrong, but I'm not nearly as worried about Albert since he's sort of played well for a quite some time.

Fisher needs to be a 6-10 time Pro-Bowler to justify the pick.

Yeah. A RT at 1.1 will have to do marvelous things throughout his career to justify that draft slot. Even then it might not be enough.

I just expected him to hit the ground running and be a stud from Day 1; since our GM deemed him the best NFL prospect of 2013.

Maybe it will happen. Patience isn't my strong suit with this organization anymore.

BigMeatballDave 08-18-2013 06:36 PM

Doubt Albert will be here next year...Fisher moves to where he belongs. However, if Albert plays like he did Friday night even fewer teams will be looking to give him the money he thinks he deserves...there weren't any serious takers this year.

Dorsey and Co. didn't think that Albert would be here this year when they went OT at 1.1.

Yet, here he is.
