Horror Movies
Please recommend me some for the season. I'm currently fresh out ideas, sans Sinister which I'll be seeing this week.

In the Carrie 2013 thread I mentioned "The Loved Ones." I oversold it saying it a mix of Psycho, Carrie, and Texas Chainsaw. Those are all classics in their own rights. However, it's a good satire of horror films that will make you laugh and cringe. The soundtrack/score is excellent!
Wild Zero is a Japanese zombie film I have yet to watch but a friend recommended. A list of some of my favs: The Shining Silence of the Lambs Let the Right One In Evil Dead 2 Rosemary's Baby American Psycho Not horror but are classics w/ plenty of gore: Old Boy Battle Royal I really don't like horror so I haven't watched many, nor do I like the "so bad it's good" films. http://www.timeout.com/london/featur...-the-full-list |
I would also check out Dawn of the dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978 version), SleepAway camp 2 (shitty slasher type).
|
The first Hellraiser is a DAMN scary & underrated *ed- not in cult fanboy circles, but you almost never see them on tv - movie, same for Lord of Illusions... so good they're almost too scary for today.
Another great but unheralded one is Pumpkinhead. |
Another VERY scary story is a recent tv program you can watch if you have On Demand.
Go to sc-fi channel, click Paranormal Witness & watch the REAL story of the Travis Walton alien abduction, interviewing all of the major players. I DARE you to watch this & come away not believing the veracity of every single guy, they would all pass any body language experts tests with FLYING colors, they also all passed lie detector tests soon after it happened. |
Laid To Rest
Maniac! High Tension |
Drag me to Hell wasn't too bad.
A couple of ****ed up parts. |
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil was awesome
|
Best J-Horror movie I have seen, and I have seen a lot of them, is Audition.

Depending on how you look at horror I'd suggest The Flock.Actually more of a psychological thriller but good for the season as there are a couple of scenes that had me more than a little uneasy and thinking what if.

Here's a couple that scared the shit out of me as a kid
Trilogy of Terror, the following is part of the short about a voodoo doll terrorizing a woman <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/q1yjhah4Dgo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The next is from the pilot of a series called Night Gallery, the short was called The Cemetery <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uE5LbO77dlY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I'll probably get hate for this, but the "scariest" movie to me is "Session 9". I'm not easily scared by movies, but I found this movie to be pretty creepy. It's kind of slow, and not really a gorefest at all. More of a ghost movie tbh.

If you wanna see a hilarious horror movie and also one of the goriest movies of all time, check out Brain Dead aka Dead Alive. It's a Peter Jackson movie believe it or not. One of my favorites.
|
Haha yeah the lawn mower scene is classic. It's definitely the goriest movie ever.

I forgot JAWS....doh...I didn't even want to get in the bath tub after that one... |
I watched Hellraiser for the first time last night. I always thought it would be scarier. I've never been one that's big on horror movies, as I'm one of those wusses that gets scared and has nightmares. Should I go back and rewatch some of the classics now that I'm older? Will they seem as silly as Hellraiser did?

I'm very pleased to have found this thread on the front page.
I just caught myself up on 'The Grudge' trilogy, I'd seen part I at the theater. I'd like to applaude the director and entire creation from the producers. These last two films were very nicely done from a horror perspective. The two films (part II & III) didn't fall off. The suspence is damn good and the irony and surprise are very welcomed by these creators. I'm not very schooled on the director. But i'd recommend both - as the horror scenes are very damned creepy. Not what I expected after #1 scared the piss out of me. I'd expected let down. I don't think the acting was that great - nor horrible. Both II & III, alike; kept the dramatic scenes pretty mellow - so any acting wouldn't be that challenging and practically auto pilot. I noticed they were increase/decreasing the pitch of the volume quite a bit - especially as the suspense increased. |

It's been long enough since I'd seen it that it was new to me again. I'd forgotten how much fun it is. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PP-Q0O-z1bs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Both of these are on Netflix instant. |

I thought the 4th Kind was a good horror movie.
It's not actually based on anything and none of the events are true, so ignore that. But as a creepy flick that sucks you in I liked it... |

Just watched 'You're Next' last weekend. It was pretty kick ass. I enjoyed the idea of a female lead turning the tables on her attackers.

So someone recommend me a movie and I'll recommend you a movie.

Watch the documentary "RFK Must Die" and tell me its not horrorific.
Conspiracy theory meets conspiracy fact, truly scary... not in a Michael Myers way, but far far worse. |
