Settling the blame game.
Who do you blame most for the loss?
1. Cassel for general non-franchise-QB-****ery. 2. Weis for calling a pass play on 3rd-and-2. 3. Defense for shitting the bed. 3. Refs. I pick #1 because A) We lack elite pass rush talent on defense. Shitting the bed against great offenses is gonna happen, especially on the road. B) I like aggressive, outside-the-box calls. C) I never blame the refs. It's chickenshit. Poll forthcoming, as soon as I yank it out of Brandon Flowers' ass. |
You can point to any number of things on both sides of the ball. Too many to list.
I agree that blaming the officiating is weak sauce. |
I will tone it down to
JUST 1 F'ING STOP is all the D had to do |
I pick the Defense. They were terrible today compared to the other games. Especially in the 4th Qtr when it mattered the most.
|
If I have to go with one, I go with Weis. Moronic play call when a first down there goes a long way to ending the game...it at least forces Houston to use up it's TOs.

I went into this game expecting to give up points. Maybe not 35, but 20+. I think we should expect our $15 million QB to make that throw at the end of the game. It's not like it was a hard throw. |
1. defense collapsed
2. coaching |
The team in it's entirety is to blame. The offense couldn't convert at a critical moment and the defense couldn't even slow them down. They can't finish games again.
|
The world is ending, I am agreeing with Goatcheese....
:D |
Definately lack an elite pass rush. Schaub had all day to throw on most plays.
|
The defense had one bad half of football, it was bound to happen at sometime.
I just can't believe that 3rd and 2 playcall. |
Can I pick all of the above??
|
31 points on offense and a turnover free game on the road should be enough to win the game.
|
Defense gets the blame here. More specifically, our pass rush sucked.

The whole team fell apart in the fourth quarter. You can't kick field goals against a team like Houston; you need TDs, and you need them every time you're in the red zone. You can't give a team like the Texans a short field repeatedly following kickoffs, either. You can't give a team with a QB like Schaub and a receiver like Johnson unlimited time to pick your secondary apart. And if you get the ball with 3:30 to go, with the lead, on a day where you have over 400 yards of offense, you damn well ought to be able to run the ****ing clock out. That was just inexcusable. I don't care who makes the play, the QB (who missed the open receiver), or one of the runningbacks who's been prison-raping their defense all afternoon, SOMEBODY has to make a goddamn play. And the same goes for the defense at the end. Sack the QB, force a fumble, intercept a pass. DO SOMETHING.
Everybody was to blame. Coaches and players in all three phases. |
I rank it thusly:
1. Defense rolling over 2. Offense not closing the deal (particularly on the 3rd & 2 play) 3. Cassel not coming through in the clutch 4. Refs putting their balls on our chins and brushing our teeth with their dicks |
I voted Weis's playcall. Really, it is a tie to me between that and the defense. The reason I went with Weis is because it was such a bad playcall on a play that would have iced the game. Go with your strengths. Give the ball to Jones or Charles and let the clock run.
The defense sucked in the second half. But, the Texans have a great offense. Not making an excuse for them, but when you have the ball and a chance to put the game away and run out the clock, you have to do it. You simply can't give the ball back to an offense that explosive with that much time. |

Anyone who blames Cassel for this loss is and idiot.
The defense let us down plain and simple. The 3rd and 2 call was bad, but the D forced 1 punt in the 2nd half. The rest of Houston's drives all resulted in TDs. No excuse for that. |

our defense gave up 21 points in the 4th quarter (total - 35 pts,350 yrds ) and you still blame our QB? you and goatcheese are both drunk idiots |

got Haley written all over it That's why coaching gets the blame right behind defensive collapse the two pooch kickoffs were reeruned too |

I still blame the defense first for letting Houston back in the game, but saying the offense shouldn't take a lot of the blame just because they scored a ton of points is silly. |
Quote:
Guess you have to take the good with the bad... the 4th down calls cost us 3 points against the Colts and gained us 4 points against Houston... but in the 4th quarter, after watching the run game wear down the defense all day, you do what works. |
It's impossible to pick one cause for this loss. There were miscues/failures on the part of many different people and if almost any of them had been avoided the Chiefs might have won this game. None of them were THE cause of the loss.
I agree with those who say that blaming the refs is weak sauce, but it's even weaker sauce to blame the play calling in this game, IMO. The Chiefs' offense played very well today and a big part of that was the play calling. |
I voted defense. DJ played like his d self rather than new self. Hali got ****ed again but needs to ay through it.
Flowers was a stud and yes the non call was BS. All things considered we beat ourselves but not in any way that isn't correctable so I can be pissed but deal with it. We lose next week and then I am concerned. |
Up by 10 and kick it to the 35 that's returned to our 45. Genious!
|
Defense shit the bed.
If you score more than 30 points and have a big lead toward the end of the game, you have to blame the D. |
Quote:
In all seriousness, this is a very good take on the blame game. I was yelling at the TV (in the 3rd quarter I think), when we ran the ball down Houston's throats some 60-70 yards have 1st and goal and throw 3 passes. I couldn't ****ing believe it. I still hate cassel now though.... |
I was holding my heart throughout this game like Red Fox. Geeze I want to blame the refs for that BS call but too many bad plays on defense side to let one play break us. Cassel wtf, best game so far as a Chief but he still has a ways to go.
Ya know what Jamaal and Jones played outstanding they were fighting for every yard they deserve a game ball if we would have won. D Bowe played his best game this year too. I just say our defense let us down and leave it at that. |
There should be an option for all of the above. I believe that all were equal parts in this loss.
|
Can't change my vote from 4 to a 2. #2 was the turd on the menu.
Weis did a great job. Just picked the wrong play. A RG-C left-RG pull right-trap off Waters' left hip would have done the trick, with Jones carrying the ball, even if they had to go for it on 4th down. PRN, all the rest of the game. Jones transitioned from disbelief to disgruntlement when the camera got him. The interference call was pathetic, but that's how it goes. Flowers did a great job, and showed a lot of heart. The defense did as good a job as I could expect. |

The QB was not the problem today. |

Yeah, it would have been nice to have completed that 3rd down pass to seal the game, but one bad pass in no way makes him the goat. In fact, I'd blame the play call before I layed it on Cassel. |
It's gotta be the defense, but some coaching definitely played a big role in the loss. Most of all the 3rd and 2 call. The refs certainly screwed us a bit too, the bad spot on the 3rd down run, the flowers thing, a good amount of no-calls that we should have got. I don't watch enough of other teams to make a comparison if other teams get fucked by refs at the same rate that we do.

I think peoples hatred of Cassel is clouding their judgment for the most part. |
I'm not a fan of Cassel, but he isn't to blame today.
|
Team loss.
|
I picked the defense, however there is enough blame to go around. I really expected us to pick up some first downs there at the end to chew up some clock and Houston timeouts. That IMHO is on the coach.
Houston is a good team and I had this game as a loss. What irritates me is we had this game. Two weeks in a row we were in the game and had good opportunities to win game that I was certain we would lose badly. It will be interesting to see how the team handles this loss and how they will respond at home next week. |

If the Offense doesn't punt/kick a FG one time of those four drives, we also win..... |

Houston's last 4 possessions: TD TD TD TD Ours: TD FG TD PUNT  |
Cassel isn't to blame but the D put the game on his shoulders and he couldn't deliver. It is games like this that he is getting paid for.
the D ultimately lost this game though. |
Where is Crennel for his shitty defensive scheme in the 4th quarter? Prevent? Seriously?
|
This game should be on NFL replay this week. Good game mostly other than shitty defense on both teams. They made the critical plays when needed we didn't. Sucks to be us, but we can rebound from this and go forward.
|
Gotta say this rests at the feet of the D. 31 points should be enough to win on the road.
|
This was a team loss. I'm still excited by our young team and our coaching staff. KC is going to be good this year and much better in years to come.

I didn't get to really watch the 2nd half due to mandatory attendance at a party... but the 1st half was the best half of football I've seen Cassell play.
|
berry gave up 2 more tds. rookie or not, he's a liability in pass coverage right now. that and having nothing resembling a pass rush. wasn't houston even missing thei LT?

I'm upset, but hey, we didn't completely embarrass ourselves against two of the top teams in the AFC, on the road, coming off of half a decade of really sucking ass. I'm oddly happy. We should learn from this, and really steamroll the rest of our schedule. |
I picked defense. Just too many mistakes. You can't really blame Cassel. He didn't lose the game for us, he just didn't win it. Unfortunately "not losing it for us" is Cassel's ceiling IMO.
|
I blame Tyson Jackson.
If he isn't injured, the rotation on the D-Line is better and we're more rested and get more pressure/have better run d. |
You cant surrender 21 points in the 4th quarter on the road. The Chiefs offense putting up 31 points was not something I expected, and with the way the defense played against Peyton Manning and Indy in their house, that squad was good enough to win this game with a 31 point offensive output.
I dont know if it was gameplan, a bad day, refs, or just a perfect storm of all things combined, but this defense today was not the same defense that played the first four games. Offense couldve done this or that, sure, but they put up 31. That shouldve been enough to win and for all the hatred for Cassel he played a pretty good game today. Far better than what I ever thought he would do so im eating some crow on that one this week. They just need to come back pissed off and take it out on the Jaguars at home next week. |

Oh, and great teams win close games and demolish bad teams. I think we're a good team, so i'm fine with losing/winning a few close games and demolishing the jaguars. |
Defense. It's not even close.

I ain't voting ......the Chiefs are 3-2 and a team on the improve. Blame this or blame that...... this whole team had a chance to win that game and they didn't....It's a road loss for a team that was never thought of as a SB contender.
The Chiefs as a team need to find something in it to grow from. One thing and just a little. Next! PhilFree:arrow: |
I blame you, Pikachu
|
Hard to single out one person.
Cassel did good over all and I won't blame him for the loss. Weis did **** up but his offense scored 4 TDs on the road. Defense shitted the bed against one of the best offenses in the league. The refs did screw us over especially with the PI call. |
